There was a thud when he landed, and a hand raised to rub his head as he picked himself up off the ground. What happened? Where was he? Gold eyes looked about the place and it looked so different from Munich. Everything looked so much more vibrant. So much livelier... so ...familiar.
A sharp intake of air and the elder of the Elric Brothers slammed his hands together and then to the ground and sure enough there were sparks of blue that danced through the air and a small bird figure appeared transmuted from the ground.
It worked.
His Alchemy.
It worked.
That meant he was home...he was in Amestris....but then....
His head whipped around quickly, eyes scanning the area looking desperately for the sight of his brother. He wasn’t here... His chest started to rise faster as his breath hitched in his throat. Where was he? Did he get left on the other side? By Himself?
No. He couldn’t leave Alphonse alone again. He wouldn’t do it...he couldn’t do it. They’d been apart for so long and he couldn’t handle another second of being separated from his sibling. The blond pulled himself to his feet in a fuss, heart thudding in his chest; ringing in his ears.
“AL!” He bellowed his brother’s name in as the panic sat in. If he got pulled through, surely his brother did too? Maybe something triggered within the gate and it pulled anyone through that didn’t belong in that world. Maybe it was trying to reset the balance of the universes... he couldn’t explain it but he did know that his brother wasn’t responding to him, so he cupped his hands around his mouth and screamed again.
“ALPHONSE ANSWER ME!”
Nothing.
Oh this wasn’t good.
This wasn’t good at all - in fact it was plainly terrifying. He didn’t know why he’d been pulled again and with no sight or sound from his brother he feared the worst. Al coming to the other side of the gate with him, reversed the toll he’d paid for Al’s life. Did that make the transmutation back-fired? Was it a recoil? Did he fail?
Did they really not cheat death?
“ALPHONSE SAY SOMETHING PLEASE!!!”
Oh he couldn’t do this. He couldn’t handle not knowing if Alphonse was safe or not. He couldn’t go home to Winry only to tell her, he didn’t know why he was here but he couldn’t find his brother. it was enough to break him.
Turning around completely at the sound of a footstep, he spun on his heel praying to see his brother but was met with the sight of cold amethyst eyes he could remember gazing into whenever he found himself edging closer to death. It was almost a sick joke how his body reminded him instantly of the physical punishment it’d suffered because of the person - could he even call him that? - before him.
“Wrath...How unpleasant it is to see you.”
