I heard an interesting rumor. Why do people associate you with a bear, Lady Kai?

“Wha- so you’ve heard about it too, Chancellor?” She frowned. “I’ll get that ninja,” she added under her breath.

“It’s because... well, people think I’m a little too aggressive. And, um, brutish.” She flushed, more out of anger than embarrassment at these confessions. “I mean, if you look at me... you don’t really see a ladylike flower, do you? So, I thought... well, if I can’t be the prettiest, I’ll definitely be the strongest.”

“I see.” He paused, calculating his next words. He struggled with quelling his disappointment; though they had not yet explored every boundary of this new relationship paradigm, he felt - what was the word - stifled. That was it: stuffed in a box, unable to see what was going on. He’d never had to hide a relationship with any other woman.

Then again, this was the first time he’d had an intelligent woman with him.

“I’ll follow your lead then, my lady,” he replied softly.

“Certainly, my lady. I apologize, though; they do nothing but wilt and wither in shame of your own beauty.”

“By all means, my lady. I won’t stop you,” he chuckled, moving closer to her. “Perhaps, your kiss would be so sweet, that it would heal me of my injuries in the blink of an eye.”

☯ - A small smile played on his lips, and he gestured towards the narrow road that lay between the two sides of the town. He began to walk, his fingers twiddling with the hem of his sleeves.

“Many of my comrades have spoken highly of you. They say you are a skilled warrior, with great intellect. Now, I see you are quite the eye-catcher, as well. I daresay I haven’t yet met anyone who was so much a threat, than a triple threat,” he paused, perhaps for what he assumed would be dramatic effect. “Anyone but you, that is.”
