Blake socializes pretty well but can get overwhelmed sometimes. He likes to keep a level head like his mentor, Black Canary. Though it has gotten better since he was younger, he does get flustered rather easily. Blake is friendly but un-trusting, even as an adult not liking to form attachments to others after what happened with his adoptive parents. He has a fear of abandonment and is Claustrophobic.
Blake is skilled at hand to hand combat and has reached peak agility under Black Canary’s training and guidance. His choice weaponry is his white oak tonfa, but he can use most any kind of melee weapon. He has the power of Accelerate Probability/Precognition (able to see different alternatives and possibilities of the future and what choices can lead to each) and a Sonic Scream/Sound Manipulation, rightfully dubbed Jackdaw Shriek after accidentally using it around The Team months after meeting them. Though Blake does not begin to willingly use his Jackdaw Shriek until towards the end of season 1. Blake uses his accelerated probability to help him in combat and even during missions, but he does have it’s weaknesses of it becoming overwhelming when the the options are of mass amounts.
Having been left at the door of a fire department and no find-able records, Blake’s exact parental heritage is unknown. Before he was even a year old, Blake was adopted by a young couple whom were having trouble conceiving, David and Evelyn Shell. Blake grew up in a happy loving home with his parents. At the age of nearly 4, his parents became pregnant with their daughter Lily, a miracle child to say the least.
By the age of 5, Blake had begun to develop his power of accelerated probability, first noticing it while doing mazes on the back of cereal boxes, in class, or in activity books. It never struck him as something different, under the assumption that it was the norm. It later began to show while playing sports, checkers, card games, or even video games.
Blake’s life was the absolute perfect childhood any kid could ever ask for. He adored his little sister and parents, and they him. Until the accident. One day the ten year old and his little sister Lily were bickering over a toy. In a fit, his Sonic Scream presented itself for the first time, permanently damaging his sister’s hearing and impairing his mother who was in the kitchen. His father David was unharmed, having been at work during the incident. Filled with fear and resentment for their son after what had happened to their biological daughter, they decided on the Second Chance program, putting Blake back into the system. He never saw them again, and became angry with himself.
Taking a vow of silence, Blake became a mute, which provoked much bullying at his new school that he began to attend after being placed with his new foster family. Blake was nearly eleven when he was one day walking home from school when a couple of class bullies stopped him. Trying to goad a sound out of Blake, he soon broke his silence in which another Sonic Scream escaped him, but not to the caliber that which left his sister deaf.
A few blocks away, Black Canary easily heard the commotion and took it upon herself to investigate, finding a scared Blake and three disoriented boys. After making sure the bullies were OK and sending them on their way, she walked Blake back home. With a little questioning, Black Canary took it upon herself to take Blake under her wing.
After two years of training with Black Canary, Blake made progress in becoming skilled at hand to hand combat and how to use his accelerated probability to his advantage. Though he still refused to used his Sonic Scream, he did begin speaking again, opening up quite a bit to his mentor but not entirely. Officially becoming her sidekick, Blake stayed with Black Canary for a short time before meeting the Team. Under construction
