My favorite house in the center of Thessaloniki, Greece. I took this photo on a cold morning...it had just snowed a little and i thought it would look interesting with the snow...
The story behind this beautiful building: This mansion was built in 1878 by Xenofon Peonidis. In 1887 it was bought by the most important lawyer of the city and eminent member of the Jewish Community Emmanuel Salem and for 30 years it will remain his family’s house. During WW1 it changes occupants: after the departure of the Salems in 1915 it is used as the Consulate of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and then is used, for many years, as the Italian Consulate. After the 1978 earthquake the Consulate moves to another location and since then this lovely house has been empty...
