She's tossing a ball at the other side of the tunnel, making it bounce on the ground and come back to her before tossing it again. There is the bandage around her leg, and her face is pale, wet from all the tears, eyes puffy and red, and her hand hesitates when she hears voices, just enough to know who it is. May came back, and apparently brought some of the Phoenixes with her because Ward is there too. Deke is the one who intercepts them, and she can almost hear the break in his voice too, she knows he's been crying, and he tells them what happened.
The voices are getting closer, and suddenly are lower, and she knows Deke must be telling them about her sitting there and not talking, because the steps also slow down long before they turn around the corner. "Simmons?" May asks, and Jemma doesn't look, she just keeps tossing the ball. "Hey, we are here..." May tries to touch her shoulder but she turns her head with a flinch and she stops. Jemma wishes she wouldn't, it's just a reflex. She likes the motherly tone she has now. "I'm going to check on Daisy because she's alone too, but I'll leave you with Ward and Deke and I'll be back. Okay?" Jemma catches the ball and stops, giving a small nod. It's unreal, how just hours ago they were still a team, working on closing the rift, on figuring Hale out, and she and Ward were bickering and occasionally doing more entertaining things, and his people knew her as a hardass which was funny in many ways, and now she feels like it's been years, and she can't even pretend she doesn't need help. May walks, and she starts tossing the ball again, somehow knowing that Ward is really not going anywhere. Even if they aren't dating, she still knows that he wouldn't abandon her there now. So she moves a hand in his direction, searching for his, and closes her eyes as she finds it and holds it. Deke excuses himself, guessing that she needs a moment. "It's not going to be okay, you know?" she murmurs, "Not this time. This is... this is it."
