Arguments in Tortuga were as common as drunks, which normally meant ignoring them in their entirety unless one was involved. The madams of the vicinity and their ladies took care to protect their own and other patrons would soon see a blaggard shot if necessary. This wasn't a squabble with a strumpet, however, that caught the ears of a passing pirate captain. He had asked his compass where his next treasure was to be found and it had led him down a sidestreet away from the main thoroughfare.
This was no brothel, and the lone woman's voice mingled with the aggression of men's.
We never held with that in Shipwreck. No reason for it to be here either.
As he slipped to the open window nearest the noise, Jack daydreamed perhaps the woman was an undercover princess (wouldn't be his first) with shiny jewels to thank him. Maybe that's what this kerfuffle was all about.
He leapt through the window, pistol drawn, and aimed it at a burly man gripping the woman's wrist.
"How's about you let the lady alone? You don't like what she's selling, I wager no one's forcing you to come back. Savvy?"
