Fair Winds But Future Discord || Barbossa and Gibbs
Captain Barbossa stood on the quarterdeck, pleased with the progress that had been made thus far on his latest venture. The Queen Anne's Revenge had been underway for a few weeks now and slowly things had begun to settle into a routine. There was a bit of a rocky start – seeing how the crew had been stitched together from various sources – some of whom were at odds with each other. There were men from Blackbeard's crew, deserters from the Royal Navy, some stragglers from those still loyal to Sao Feng as well as a number of Sparrow's men from the Black Pearl.
The captain and his first mate were not spared any such conflict. Barbossa still did not know what possessed him to offer the job to Joshamee Gibbs. But he had needed someone solid and knowledgeable, not someone young and reckless. And Gibbs had come to mind. But the one thing he hadn't really considered was the issue of the past.
Past deeds done. Misdeeds and broken loyalty.
Which brought into question why Jack's most trusted companion (and probably his only true friend) had even accepted Hector's offer.
And as if thoughts of the man actually caused his appearance, Barbossa watched as his new First Mate climbed the ladder up to the quarterdeck. Just then Hector sensed a sudden shift in the breeze and he looked up to where the sails billowed high above. He shouted an order to the man behind the wheel to change tacks in order to better catch the wind and increase their speed.
With a nod toward Gibbs he called out in greeting, "Th' wind and weather be in our favor today, Master Gibbs. We should pass southeast between Grenada and Tobago by mornin'."
