Ki Vez, the nautolan padawan.  She may not be the most conventional padawan, but her skills speak for themselves. 

She’s a brash and stubborn student who has a shaky relationship with her Master. Her Master’s strict teachings and unshakable beliefs in the Jedi code make Vez frustrated, and she is quick to grow irritated when Master Allegra deflects her questions. She escapes the frustration by sneaking out of the Jedi temple during the night to hang out with the youth of Coruscant.

Although she’s not the perfect student, she takes her role as Commander very seriously when the Clone Wars begin. She is aware of her limited military experience when compared to the clones, and she learns a lot from the soldiers. She would never intentionally do anything reckless to put her men in danger, especially if her Captain advises against it. 

Due to nautolan’s empathetic abilities, she struggles with attachment in the Jedi code and she is quick to offer a helping hand to those who need it. She may not be a good student, but she’s a good friend.

He had been told that military leave was relaxing, but Niner didn’t find that to be the case. Instead, he felt trapped, restless, and most of all, guilty. Every moment he spent sitting on his ass, soldiers died. Memories of a fellow comrade fallen, gasping and crying out for his brothers before disappearing under a storm of blaster fire stirred the anxiety swelling up in his chest. He needed some fresh air.

It was a cold evening for a walk, but Niner didn't mind. It kept his mind awake. It had been drilled into him at such a young age that anyone could be an enemy, even though he was dressed in his civvie clothes. Especially since he was in his civvie clothes.

He drank in the city surroundings. A pair of twi’leks smoking a cigarra- the flickering lights of a bar sign closed hours ago- muffled music coming from one of the resident apartments. He almost found it beautiful in a strange and urban kind of way. He took a deep breath and exhaled a cloud.

Relax, Niner. It’ll only a few days until your knee heals. Then you’ll be as good as new and it’s back to freezing your shebs off with the boys in the middle of nowhere.

“ Ah-huh, ” the pup agreed, opening her maw wide to show where the new hole was. “ I lost it bitin’ Kom’vodu. I think it’s still stuck in him. ”

A chuckle rumbled in the back of Niner’s throat. “That’s one way to lose a tooth, and sometimes the nulls need a reminder that they’re not bulletproof.” He peered into the pup’s mouth and nodded, impressed. “How many baby teeth do you have left?”

She hoped nobody would drown in the river of mud. Crossing it proved be slow and difficult, and the current almost knocked Vez off her feet. She slipped when she stepped onto the bank, muck covering her legs and dripping from her head tresses as she crawled up the slope.

Once she regained her footing, she turned and extended an arm. Captain Ronin grunted and nodded in thanks as she helped him onto the bank. He turned to aid the other three mud-soaked troopers.

Rain drenched her cloak as she looked into the green vegetation. An unease crept into her chest and the force shifted, eclipsing and churning in an unfamiliar pendulum. Fingers curled around the lightsaber hilt on her belt and she listened. Something was in the forest.

Republic verse

The pounding of drums drew everyone’s eyes to the stage and drowned out conversation in the cantina. People sat around the tables with a drink in their hand and a quiet word to their company as the trumpet flared. Niner clutched his glass with white knuckles and he scanned the room from his booth. People were smiling and laughing, and some were even clapping along to the music. 

The sergeant wasn’t usually seen around a place like this, and the number of people crowded into a room so small was unsettling. It provided opportunities for people to sneak up on you, and he was uncomfortably reminded about the absence of his armour. The civilian jacket felt foreign with its soft fabric and leather exterior, and it creaked as he pulled the collar up around his face. It hardly provided any protection against a viroblade.

Niner leaned his elbow against the table and fingers played with the microchip hidden underneath his sleeve. His squad had gotten a lead on a dangerous Separatist arms dealer, and the target owned this very cantina. Illegal selling was obviously a lucrative business. In order to shut down the operation, Niner had to tag the man with the chip so they could follow and track the terrorist’s footsteps.

The commando watched the crowd carefully, and he noticed a dancer standing to the side. She was a species he had never seen before, with a pale slender figure and long fawn-like ears. He tried to pull his eyes away from her, but they flickered back. Despite himself, he found her to be uniquely beautiful.
