do you think that maybe the reason behind vaggi's new "name" is because charlie hinted she liked her name, thinking it unique, and because vaggi's still present self-loathing and freshly making up with charlie that she decided to keep her name with a minor change?
I think you are onto something. I think Vaggi wanted to change her name because Adam tried to use the fact that he named her against her when he came to her hotel room in heaven. He corrected how she says her own name in an effort to make her feel like she HAD to listen to him. So I feel like it's her trying to become more than what heaven made for her but she was never the problem so she ends up unsure what to change. I don't think she made small change because she is still unsure I think she just needed a small change.
I think Vaggi wanted people to respect what she told them the first time but everyone always extended her name or tried to call her what they guessed it was short for. And in the case with Adam we instantly see why she had already changed it and had never gone by anything other than the way she said Vaggi. So when she decided to drop the E I see this as a call back reference to Blitz which is a way of saying she is a main character (it also FEEL right in the helluverse, Blitz has to change his name and always correct people and characters come into story sometimes with established relationships like Millie and Moxxie and having already changed their name, like Blitz, works in helluverse pretty well.) It's always a character focused story so the world has to keep up with the character and no the other way around and I feel like this is more realistic to what a lot of regular queer people do or deal with where they have to change a name or get people to stop saying some part of them incorrectly.
Everyone else made Vaggi's name an issue and it was connected to her past in a painful way so she was seeking an escape from that. In the first episode of season two, she is sitting at the bar and not only does no one like her name ideas (with someone pointing out the biggest issue with her re-naming right away) but she says she is trying to "figure it out" so she is directly looking to change for the sake of seeing what is holding her back. But she doesn't actually WANT to drop the Vag part which is always going to sound like her first name.
I take Vaggi keeping her name but dropping the E to mean that she gets to decide what parts of her past are worth honoring and what parts get tossed aside. She is allowed to define for herself what she is called and she doesn't have to pick a name for anyone's sake but her own. Vaggi's name change means people won't be as likely to assume it's something else and if you ask the staff NOW they would say the full name is spelled Vaggi so she basically had to force people to stop giving her nicknames via trying to guess a name that was different than what she told them. She reads to me like someone who goes by Ash for years and then people call her Ashley and she's like it's actually short for Ashliehgeha but please call me Ash (cause its a religious name from her shitty dad but she doesn't need to tell you all that) but they have some issue in real life like sexism + homophobia so they will not respect this boundary and use her full name even though NO ONE calls her that so she legally changed that shit to Ash to checkmate the debate.
It's also funny you bring this up because names are so important to the sinners and this is a huge example of the difference in free will. Vaggi was never even allowed to represent herself even when she was thrown out from heaven but the sinners all re-invent themselves with new names. Angeldust is named after the drug that killed him and it plays into the idea that he is both an addict and something other people addicted to but some people like Vox have a name that is simply different than their real name. Alastor is special for keeping is name without a nick name but I actually think Valentino's name might just be Valentino and that is something they share which fits them being independently powerful / having a clear image of self they want people to see. Then you have Husk who uses the nickname culture to tell you LESS about himself. All this to say that names are all super important and everyone in hell cares very much that people call them by WHAT they are or WHO they've made themselves.
So it just makes a lot of sense that Vaggi would have questioned her name now that she is openly an angel in hell. People used that legal E to correct the way she pronounced her own damn name so she removed it but if I had to guess S3 will still have lots of jokes about people getting her name wrong via Lucifer and such.
