Iran Opens New Space-Tracking Center
President Mahmud Ahmadinejad has opened a new center for monitoring space and tracking objects passing near the Earth, reports RFERL on 09JUN13.
Ahmadinejad visited the center in the town of Delijan, some 200 kilometers south of Tehran, on June 9, accompanied by Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi and other officials.
Vahidi was quoted as saying the purpose of the base is to secure Iran's "space facilities" and to monitor objects, "especially satellites," that pass overhead. He said the Delijan center uses radar, radio, and electro-optical tracking methods.
Iran currently has nine command-and-control centers for its space program, including one in Syria.

Iran official: 'Big war' means Mahdi is coming
CHRISTIAN NEWS: SOURCES. Published: 9/20/12 by Reza KahliliEmail | WND Archive For the first time, Iran’s highest-ranking military official has tied the reappearance of the last Islamic messiah or Mahdi to the regime [in Iran] being prepared to go to a war based on ideology.
“With having the treasure of the Holy Defense, Valayat (Guardianship of the Jurist) and martyrs, we are ready for a big war,” Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said, according to Mashregh news, which is run by the Revolutionary Guards.
“Of course this confrontation has always continued; however, since we are in the era of The Coming [of the Mahdi], this war will be a significant war.”
Shi’ites believe that at the end of time great wars will take place, and Imam Mahdi, the Shi’ites’ 12th imam, will reappear and kill all the infidels, raising the flag of Islam in all corners of the world.
Vahidi became the Revolutionary Guards intelligence officer after the 1979 Islamic revolution and later was promoted to chief commander of the Quds Forces. He is on the Interpol most-wanted list for the Jewish community center bombing in Buenos Aires in 1994 that killed 85 and injured hundreds.
Vahidi also played a major role in the 1996 Khobar Tower bombing in Saudi Arabia that killed 19 U.S. servicemen.
Military leader ties ‘last messiah’ Mahdi to Iran …conflict
Reza Kahlili served in CIA Directorate of Operations, as a spy in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, counterterrorism expert; currently serves on the Task Force on National and Homeland Security, an advisory board authorized by Congress. He is the author of the award winning book “A Time to Betray” and regularly appears in national and international media as an expert on Iran and counterterrorism in the Middle East.
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi renewed Iran's support for the will of the Syrian people and government, and opposed foreign meddling in the Muslim states, specially Syria, to the interest of Israel. Vahidi made the remarks in a meeting with the Iraqi Interior Minister Adnan al-Assadi here in Tehran on Wednesday. "The enemies try to weaken or annihilate resistance front in a bid to help the Zionist regime dominate the entire region and for this reason they have targeted Syria," he said. He noted only Israel and its allies benefit from the current Syrian crisis, and called on regional countries, specially Syria's neighboring countries, to help foil the foreign plots hatched against the Muslim state. The Iranian defense minister underlined that the regional crises can be resolved through collective cooperation of the countries of the region. Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against the Syrian police, border guards, statesmen, army and the civilians being reported across the country. Thousands of people have been killed since terrorist and armed groups turned protest rallies into armed clashes. The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
Israel not powerful enough to do anything against Iran: Vahidi
Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi says the Israeli regime does not dare to take any "silly" measure against Iran as it has witnessed the power of the Islamic Republic.
“The Zionist Regime [of Israel] has witnessed the Islamic Republic’s power in its different aspects and is aware of it. Therefore, it does no consider itself capable of taking any silly measure against our country,” Vahidi noted on Tuesday. The minister stated that Israel’s leaders are waging a psychological war against Iran in order to pressure other countries to do what they want.
Vahidi said the Islamic Republic is ready to counter any threats and will give a crushing response to any aggression against the country.
Iran started a self-sufficiency campaign in the defense industry and launched numerous military projects soon after the victory of the Islamic Revolution. On October 3, Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said Iran can domestically design and produce military equipment needed for its naval forces. The Islamic Republic has also produced different indigenous missiles, including Shahab (Meteor), Khalij Fars (Persian Gulf), Tondar (Lightning), Fateh (Victor) and Zelzal (Quake) as well as Qiam (Uprising). However, Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized that the country's military prowess is merely based on the nation's defense doctrine of deterrence and poses no threat to other countries.
