A major win for Big East Basketball!
Val Ackerman is the current commissioner of the Big East Conference. As a student at the University of Virginia, Ackerman was a four-year starter and three-year captain of the women’s basketball team. In 1996, Ackerman was named president of the WNBA, becoming the first woman to launch and operate a successful women’s sports league. In 2005, she became the first female president of USA Basketball.
