((Finally designed Val under the cut.))
hc + style for Val!
send me ‘ hc ‘ + a word and i’ll write a headcanon about it regarding my character.
Val is very flexible with his style, replacing what he needs of his outfit when he needs to with whatever feels fitting. Though the centuries have taught him to value function over form, he still dresses in what he feels is 'stylish' for him.
Black is a staple color of his wardrobe, complimented it with jewel tones, usually in accessories but occasionally in key elements. You'll usually find him with some kind of scarf, shawl, or cloak, no matter the weather. He's also fond of adding 'traditional' elements to his clothes with historic-looking pieces.
He absolutely hates formal clothing, and has a bad tendency of ruining them (intentional or not).
What would have happened if Valère had succeeded in his assassination attempt on his brother? Would things have been different?
send me questions you have about my character!
An excellent question! Truth be told, not much would have changed for the future of Vanitas. The country was on the decline, the war was over, and the damage that Val was so upset about had already been done. Faren might have come to power as Queen after her brother's death, but she had been one of his advisors, and likely would have chosen to follow a similar path to what he had laid out.
Valère himself probably would not have survived. The confusion of his failed attempt was what ultimately have him time to escape in the first place (abet badly injured). Had he actually killed Cyril, though, guards would have been on him in an instant, and he would likely face public execution.
So no major change for Vanitas, but a massive one for Val.
Val always wanted to learn an instrument, particularly a stringed one, but he was always being dragged away to be taught other things. It wasn't a time for a prince to be learning music.
While he's had plenty of time since, he hasn't done it because he's worried he'd be too rough on an instrument in his traveling.
Mina is good at whistling.
Betua probably pays more attention to Val's birthday than he does, tbh.
For him it's just the passing of another year, especially if it's another year that he hasn't unsealed the other Treasures. But for Betua it's a time to treasure someone she cares about and how long they've been together.
Unlike Val, Pascale is a firm believer that people can change. She's done it, she's seen Gervase do it, and she's watched plenty of others over the centuries. She easily has more evidence of people changing than most.
Val is stubborn and doesn't think people capable of truly changing-not in good ways, at least. He cites himself as a clear example, having no regret for his past deeds. It's part of the reason he doesn't trust too easily.
Fun fact:
If you tried to use any type of pokéball against LTH Falk or Val, it will react briefly (illuminate) to them, but then stop.
( looks @ tor val and the other tor muses ) ... dietary preference? Do they have specific tastes or does being sealed in Paldea for decades and now everything around are either unknown to them or evolved from what they were once familiar with make them not very picky eaters?
send me questions you have about my character!
Their tastes in their Treasure and human forms are the same. For all of them except Val, being sealed has made their sense of taste a bit more sensitive, so they don't have the same tolerances for extreme flavors that Val does. Their pickiness still ranges, but having traveled the world for hundreds of years, they all know they can't be too picky.
Val is a big fan of salty and sweet flavors, together or separately. Caramel is a favorite flavor of his. He is one of the less picky eaters, and is unfortunately prone to skipping meals out of sheer forgetfulness or apathy. However, he will happily eat if someone else is paying.
Yijun (Ting-Lu) is the least picky of the bunch, coming from an agricultural lifestyle. He likes his grains, and flavor-wise is fond of umami dishes. Not a big fan of sweets. For him, food is more of a task or routine-you will eat on time, and you will finish it all. This is one of the few things he's very firm about.
Ansheng (Wo-Chien) likes creamy foods. They were once vegetarian, and largely maintain that diet now, but every so often they eat meat or fish (especially when it was the most practical option-they're a very practical person with food). Ansheng prefers snacking to big meals. Now that they have the grass-typing, they have a bad habit of snacking on mushrooms and berries without washing or preparing them.
Mengyao (Chien-Pao) is a fan of spicy and salty foods. Of all of them except Val, he probably likes his food flavored the strongest, and is having the hardest time having to re-adjust his sense of taste after eating nothing for so long. Loves trying new dishes. The one thing he can't stand is mushrooms.
Jie (Chi-Yu) is probably the pickiest eater, but that's not saying a lot; she's improved to the point that she might whine, but she'll still eat most foods. She likes sweet and sour foods, and has a bit of expensive taste when it applies. However, she wouldn't be very impressed by gimmick-y foods (like edible gold and such). Shares the title of 'strongest alcohol tolerance' with Yijun.
