Valkyrie narrowed her eyes at Amelia, scrutinising the other woman’s expression for any hint of a clue beyond the words that were coming out of her mouth. All Valkyrie could detect was a hint of nervousness and a smidgen of smugness. If anything, this prompted Valkyrie to press on with her investigation into Amelia’s love-life, rather than give up and move onto a different topic of conversation.
“The fact you would say such a thing suggests that you have been kissing someone.” Valkyrie gave Amelia a bright grin. “I’m tempted to run through a list of possible candidates, but I think it might be more fun to just ask the candidates themselves.”
Valkyrie was kidding though. She respected Amelia’s right to privacy when it came to her personal life. Gossip spread fast among the Avengers and their co-workers and Valkyrie did not want Amelia to fall foul of that.
Amelia’s cheeks were rosy pink as she tried to hide behind her coffee mug, trying to act nonchalant as she sipped the hot liquid, trying to not squirm under the warrior angel’s gaze. Whatever bit of smugness she had in her eyes when she made the ‘smooth’ line to Valkyrie though went away in a blink at the Asgardian’s playful threat.
Her eyes shot up with shock. “No, I don’t want to scare him off!” Amelia exclaimed much too hastedly, putting down her coffee mug immediately before realizing she...indirectly gave Valkyrie a bigger clue into whom she was romantically seeing: It was a man on the Avengers...and someone shy. That would automatically eliminate Thor, Tony, Rhodey, and Clint; she knew Valkyrie would know that, too. She knew Val could also guess that might eliminate Sam, maybe Bucky as well. Possibly even Scott, though Ant-Man was shyer than most people thought on initially meeting him. Really, it left Steve and Bruce.
Granted, it was no secret how much she admired Steve. She had to admit, she was a bit starstruck around him at times. It was hard not to be, especially when the man was your motivation for so long to the best she could be… But it was the scientist that stole her heart. They both thought they were being careful about their romance, yet Valkyrie spent a lot of time with the Hulk while they were on Sakaar, even more time with both sides of Dr. Banner while they built up New Asgard. Had she figured it out from Bruce?
Amelia bit her bottom lip, anxiously watching Valkyrie stare at her intently. After a moment longer, she sighed heavily, her hands curled around her coffee mug. Yes, though she was a spy, lying was something she was never talented at when it came to the Avengers. Which led to her decision to finally confess the truth.
A self-indulgent blurb of little things I associate with Val for no reason other than I can, and I’m allowed to have fun with my weird aesthetic things.
The scent of hot chocolate, cinnamon, and campfires. That feeling of laughing so hard you have trouble breathing, and your stomach starts to hurt. Starry nights and big-city skylines. The colors lavender, black, and crimson, though not necessarily together. Combing your hair only to run your hand through it to get that disheveled look it it. A phone that’s been dropped several times, and shows the wear of it, but amazingly the screen is still intact. Eyeliner several days old that’s been cleaned up and, even though it’s still a bit messy, works with the rest of the look. Dog kisses waking you up in the morning. Warm summer afternoons. Taking pictures of pretty much everything, whether or not you post it on social media, you just want to be able to immortalize that moment. The phrase “Look at the moon/clouds/sky!”
