jex my love!!! since you killed us all with dad!ash and his adorable little (huge) family last night, how about a blurb on him adopting the littlest baby🥺 just destroy us all again! I love you always ♥️

Lauren, I love you so much. I can think of something sweet to do just for you. 

Ashton and his partner wouldn’t have expected to adopt another child. They would have their hands full with four other children, and while they always wanted to have extra love, they wouldn't think anything of paying a visit where they adopted their other children. His partner regularly donated funds to keep the organization as wonderful as it was when they adopted two of their kids. 

“Let’s drop this off, and then we can go.”

Ashton would drop by the front desk to drop off a check. He'd make conversation with the receptionist as he always did, not paying attention to his partner walking off to the play room. Only a few children would be scattered about the floor mat that looked like a puzzle. Ashton's partner would almost walk back to the other room unaffected. But two small hands would reach out from a crib near the wall. 

A sweet little boy would continue to reach out for Ashton's partner until they looked to a staff member for permission to pick him up. They wouldn't know how to handle how easily he nestled into the crook of their neck. Holding him would just feel right. It wouldn't be long before Ashton went to look for them and smiled at the sight of the baby sucking his thumb over their shoulder. 

His partner would give him a look, tears in their eyes as they tried to keep it together.

“I'm not going anywhere.”

Luke would stand in the doorway. He'd look at his partner with pleading eyes, trying to wedge himself back inside. His partner would swallow hard with puffy eyes, trying to shut him out one more time. 

Life was hard. They didn't want to put Luke in the crossfire of everything they had to face on their own. It seemed as if nothing had gone right in the last year. Luke was an isle of beauty in the midst of the storm they had to weather. He was good and kind. He smelled like flowers and made them smile when it seemed impossible to do so. 

Taking the risk of being able to have him in their life was something they were thankful for on a daily basis. 

Nothing would ever be perfect. 

And they tried their hardest to not mess it up. 

Allowing Luke to see them beaten down by everything surrounding them was a new low. Tears would spill over in the crevices of their eyes when they let go of the door. Luke would pull them into his chest. He knew better than to say anything with the first wave of vulnerability. 

He'd walk the two of them to the sofa facing away from the window--letting his partner pool in his lap as they cried. 

Luke would rub circles on the top of their spine. He'd be concerned. But he would want to comfort before prying about anything that made them feel so low. 

“Thank you for being here.”

Luke would kiss their temple, putting his palm to their cheek before resting his forehead on theirs. His eyes would be so blue and so open to anything they could ever tell him in the moment. 

“Always. Don't forget that.”
