Hi! Coming on here right after our stream. I wanted to continue this conversation just a bit and further elaborate what I was saying on stream today!
I am a firm believer that you should befriend people of all backgrounds because it helps further humanize those people. Some people genuinely do not recognize some demographics of people as people (the area of their brains dedicated to this does not light up, but psychology is a whole big theory so let’s move along), and this can help empathize with these people. Even if this is not a big problem for you, befriending diverse people may help bring light to issues that you had not known about before.
While minorities are not required to educate you on easily googleable things, had I not known X, I would not have heard about those remains found in Canada, and I would not have the opportunity that I do now to speak on these issues.
ONCE AGAIN, minorities are not your teachers, and they do not owe you anything, but if they do educate you, PLEASE listen!
My platform is small, but if I could have gotten one more person to look into this issue, then it would have been worth every second I have spent speaking on it.
