Chardonney – not to be confused with the wine Chardonnay – is the last village you come to in 'Valle di Champorcher' ('Champorcher Valley') in the Lower Aosta Valley. It is a favourite spot for hikers who are keen on visiting the various isolated lakes up in the mountains either on foot or by taking the cable car. I wanted to do the latter but I couldn't because there was a sold-out concert — in spite of several showers swifting by! 🌧🌧 The village itself is absolutely authentic, which can't be said for other ones (I won't name them) that have become too touristy with high-rise hotels that spoil the surrounding scenery. The locals have clearly done a great job in looking after their small, charming village.
