Vocabulary:
Value- The element of art that describes the darkness or lightness of a color.
Shape- A two-dimensional area that is defined in some way. There are two kinds, geometric and free-form/organic.
Form- Shapes with three dimensions.
Highlight- Areas or spots of intense brightness or light. Usually left as pure white.
Transitional Light- Middle values of color.
Core Shadow- Darkest area of the form.
Reflective light- area where the light is reflected from objects surrounding the form onto its surface.
Cast shadow- darkest area of the drawing/picture.
Light source- the area where the light is shining down onto the form.
Hatching- the technique of using a set of parallel lines to create shading.
Cross-hatching-the use of two or more sets of parallel lines that cross over each other to create shading.
Stippling- the use of dots to create shading.
