For my art class we are doing a project on the 7 elements of art, where each of the elements has to be in a different section, with the same object in the middle.

My mind IMMEDIATELY went to the Source Dragons, and I kept doing it! Despite my teacher saying don't get copyright infringement!! :D

He colors are much more vibrant irl, but unfortunately, my camera sucks, so this is what we got. :(

If you can guess which Source Dragon is where, i'll be impressed.

Demystifying Art:

Fundamental Elements of Art – Line

With revising my understanding of using lines in drawing in Adebanji Alade's Sketch Week course this month, I decided that for my demystifying art social media post I would look at that fundamental element of art - lines. 

My interest in the word "line" and its use in art had been piqued last year when I entered the Sir Kyffin Williams RA Drawing Prize run by Oriel Môn. One of the rules of the three yearly prize is that a drawing is defined as: "an original work of art, in two dimensions, usually on paper, made of graphic marks which include the use of line within the composition."

So I guess that a drawing made totally of dots wouldn't have qualified, maybe, unless the dots made up broken lines. I'll leave you to decide for yourself if that's fair and whether you can imagine me outside the gallery waving a placard saying "Rights for Dot Makers!".

Elements of Art / Principles of Design (Term & Definition)

Elements of Art

Line: The path to guide the viewer, can be straight, curved, thick, thin, or shaped

Shape: Two-dimensional geometric or organic appearance

Form: Three-dimensional objects that include volume, mass, and depth

Color: Reflected/absorbed light; hues and tints express visual interest

Value: Light source in an image (if any); light to dark scale; shades & tints

Texture: The quality of a surface, how it looks & feels

Space: The illusion of an area around, between, and within to manipulate perspective

Saturation: The intensity of color or value

Principles of Design

Balance: The visual weight

Depth: The distance of spacing and overlapping of objects 

Movement: Motion; seeing or feeling something move

Emphasis: Attention; what stands out more

Pattern: Repeating shapes, colors, lines, and symbols

Unity: parts cohesion; work together to form visual

Proportion: size relationships that create different visuals

Variety: Different types of other elements & principles within a design
