Jamila Woods • "Holy"
Directed by VAM Studios
Perhaps one of the most consistent voices to emerge from Chicago in recent years, singer/poet Jamila Woods put the world on notice last year with the release of her honest solo debut, HEAVN, a careful collection of songs that we featured in our cover story on Woods about this time last year. A full calendar later and the music still stands as fresh as it was on day one, the embedded messages only becoming underlined more boldly in time since and rightfully so Woods decided to unveil a visual rendering for one of the album's singles, "Holy".
A prolific writer and poet recognized across the country for her contributions acorss several artistic mediums, Woods doesn't often approach expression lightly and on this particular visual accompaniment that sentiment is quickly obvious. Employing a range of talented minds together on this one, she tapped Vince Martell's VAM Studios and Bryan Allen Lamb, amongst others to create a piece of work that stands even taller with the added presence of the video itself. You'll definitely rewind this one at least once. Woods certainly hasn't stopped working either so be sure to catch her latest, right here at TheseDays coming soon.
