"Why don't vampires just use animals?"
In some stories they do. In some stories they're just weaker if they drink from deer. Thing is: vampires are monsters. They are parasites. The reason they don't just drink from animals is because doing so removes the direct threat they pose as predators to humanity. Also, do the deer deserve to die to feed the dead? If one is to discuss morality, one deer can feed several humans, but probably only one vampire (since it doesn't have human blood, so if they can survive on it, they'd probably need more). How fucked would we be if each person needed to eat a whole cow every day to survive?
