The Ruthless Pursuit of Blood (from everyone except the bloodsucker)
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Characters: Alphonse Elric/Edward Elric, Fuhrer Bradley, Greed, Martel
Word Count: 987
Written for the @elricestloveevent of 2024
The chimeras come for Al, and his specific brand of immortality.
They work for Greed, but Al doesn’t know that yet.
Martel’s smooth, overly long arms snake around Al’s shoulders after he’s flatly refused to trust this shady group of strangers. He’s tall for his age—taller than Ed, at least—but she’s still taller by half a head.
“Be a good boy,” she hisses in his ear. He shudders.
An account of Al’s kidnapping by Greed and “rescue” by the Fuhrer—in the universe where stabbing Al would actually draw blood.

Summary: Ed’s thoughts as Al drinks his blood.
Part of the Vampire!Al series!
Al doesn’t bite—he feasts. He rips, tears into his skin. And Ed is trying. He’s holding him, can feel he is but...oh god....
It’s hard to be gentle. To be soft against this blinding, unbearable pain. He grits his teeth—against the cloth in his mouth, so he doesn’t shatter them. Forces his hands not to grip—to not cling with all his might and rip Al away.
It’s hard. It’s so, so hard. But Ed manages, Ed fights.
(The question is, does he win?)

For the classic vamp/human tropes...
Ed getting hurt... Al being angry and stuff at his recklessness, and Ed noticing how he’s bleeding and being like “well, this is a waste” and shoving his now blood-tainted fingers into Al’s mouth to both distract and shut him up (it works v well.)

Takes place in the Vampire!Al AU-verse!
---------------------------------------------------
“Seriously, Al! Don’t you think it makes sense?” Ed, the loving, excitable older brother that he was had discovered a book on vampire lore. And he had -devoured- it - not literally of course, that would be sacrilege. But he had read the book with a fervor usually dedicated only to food and to leads about Al’s condition.
Al slowly lowered his book, giving Ed his patented ‘Brother, I love you more than life itself and I put up with this because you’re adorable and it comes from a place of love’ look. Which primarily involved a single raised eyebrow, and the twitch of a smile at the edges of his lips.
knight Ethan x vampire prince Al
Al is a powerful immortal vampire who lives in a castle on a hill and is very separated from the people around him and acts like a haughty bitc but he secretly craves human connection. Ethan is a regular human knight who just works for him but the amount of time he spends around Al lets him see a rare, vulnerable version of the untouchable vampire prince.
He sees Al when he's desperately thirsty for blood, trying to stand still while Al pathetically throws himself over Ethan and uselessly nuzzles his armoured neck. Ethan is getting sweaty and red under his armour as Al grinds his crotch against Ethan's metal-clad thigh.
Sometimes when it gets late and Al gets particularly lonely, he calls Ethan into his bedroom. Ethan is technically off duty but he won't leave his prince alone. Al gets Ethan out of his heavy armour and Ethan can see Al's fangs behind his lips but he allows it anyway. He lets Al guide him onto his silken bed and he tilts his head back to bare his neck up for Al. And Al sits straddling Ethan's thigh as he sinks his teeth in and has a feast fit for a king while Ethan tries very hard to keep his calloused hands off the soft royal skin of his prince.
26, Ed and Al gen 👀

Hi Morgan! You know just what I like 💙💙💙
(Okay so this little fic is completely self-indulgent. It’s set in the AU I conceived years ago in which Al, instead of being a suit of armor for the entire story, just has to drink Ed’s blood to live.
He’s much more resilient than a normal human—he can heal from what would otherwise be fatal wounds, so long as Ed can supply him with fresh blood. This comes into play in this particular snippet—which is this AU’s version of events when Scar catches up to the brothers for the first time.)
The alchemist catches Al first.
They’re both running for their lives, trying to escape the man who set his sights on exploding Ed’s head. Both boys are panting, exhausted. Ed claps and transmutes frantically, but the man breaks down every barrier they erect in his way.
Maybe if they can make it to headquarters, find another safehouse—something—anything—to escape the man in glasses, who, like Ed, apparently doesn’t need to draw a circle to transmute.
Al trips.
The man gets a firm grip around his knee, and—
Al’s leg explodes.
He screams, but it’s at Ed—to run.
Ed has no intention of running. Al is bleeding out, and though his leg looks horrific, beyond saving, Ed’s seen him come back from worse.
He just needs more blood. Ed can give that to him.
His momentary preoccupation with Al is all the alchemist needs to shatter his arm.
Al’s scream is somehow louder this time.
The man offers him a moment to pray.
Al screams in panic. This time, he’s cut off by a sick-sounding cough.
He won’t last much longer.
Ed stares past the man in the long coat and dark glasses. “Can you give me a minute with my brother instead?”
“I will not.”
“Will you hurt him if you kill me?”
“I will not. Your sins are not his.”
“Okay, then, go ahead.”
“Brother!”
Ed closes his eyes, so the sound of the gunshot surprises him.
The military clashes with the would-be killer, and he flees. It’s over in less than a minute, then the soldiers have two injured boys to deal with.
One is hardly hurt, his automail the worst part of him. The other…well, at the very least his leg is gone. He might not even make it off the street, given all the blood he’s lost.
That is, that’s what the soldiers think until he sits up and slugs his brother in the face.
“You idiot!”
“Ow! Al—”
“What were you thinking? You absolute dumbass, were you going to let him kill you?”
“He promised not to hurt you. I had to—”
“You had to what—cause the least possible collateral damage? News flash, brother—if you die, I’m not far behind! What were you expecting, for me to lick your blood off the streets?”
“Al, just take my blood—”
“Fine.” Al pounces on his arm and bites.
“Ow! Son of a—”
“You deserve more than that, but right now I’m going to pass the fuck out unless I drink.”
He’s bitten hard enough to draw blood, so Ed guides him close under the guise of a hug so he can press his lips to the cut and suck. Ed winces but accepts the burning pain as his punishment.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, Al. I didn’t want to leave you, but—”
Al squeezes his arm, casting an icy glare up without breaking his hold on Ed. Somehow, as always, Ed knows what he means. Just because you’re sorry doesn’t make this go away. You’ll still hear plenty about this.
Honestly, Ed wouldn’t have it any other way. Al wouldn’t be Al otherwise.
He presses his lips to Al’s forehead anyway, marveling at his brother’s resilience. Anyone else would’ve never walked again, but not Al. Al is still alive, and strong, and in a few weeks he’ll be up and about like this never happened.
God, he’s beautiful.
And then Lieutenant Hawkeye is there, draping her jacket over Al’s shoulders and retrieving the tattered remains of Ed’s coat to wrap him up in. “Just stay here,” she warns in a low voice. “We’ll get an ambulance. Triage his leg. Is he okay?”
Ed allows her a weary smile of thanks as Al drinks his fill, replenishing his body of the blood he lost. “He will be.”
Send me a prompt and a pairing!
The amount of narrative shuffling it would take for vampire!Al to be a thing is so minuscule it’s astonishing
In a world slightly more mystical than the canon one, Ed and Al marking their human transmutation circle with blood does something different
Instead of taking Al’s body, the transmutation takes all his blood, leaving his drained corpse behind
He’s alive, but only because of the blood bond with Edward
...meaning he now needs Ed’s blood to survive
Ed still joins the military in hopes of finding a way to return Al to normal—but as a human blood-bag he has to keep Al close at all times
Al can still age normally, so he’s considered alive by a slim margin
(Or maybe he doesn’t age, and Ed is stuck with a little brother who’s ten forever—which would hurt more?)
He can “die” and resurrect, hence everyone’s horrified reaction to him (akin to seeing a hollow suit of armor)
Too long without a fresh blood dose from Ed leaves him lacking in some way—he can’t speak, or walk, or do alchemy
There are advantages to his curse, and he learns to live with them—but nothing is worth periodically hurting his brother like he has to
On a lighter note (or maybe more morbid) if they have to separate for some reason, Ed bleeds in advance, leaving Al toting around to-go blood-bags like juice boxes
But really it’s just a way for me to twist Ed & Al closer together, making their bond stronger but also MORE PAINFUL :D
