Your head was spinning, you felt like you were about to throw up. As you stumbled to the bathroom, you couldn’t but silently hate Amara for getting you to come out.
You would rather be home than in some bar bathroom begging whoever is above to not let you throw up, silently making promises about not drinking ever again.
“Fuck.” You breathed out, leaning down to tap cool water on your cheeks. You looked up, staring at your pale face in the mirror, “I need to go home.”
You push yourself up from the sink, slowly making your way out of the bathroom to find Amara, or any of the other ones you met up with here.
“Have.. you seen Amara?” You stare at the guy in front of you, “S-she’s my ride home and I need to go home.”
He looks around, “Nah, nah. I haven’t seen her.”
You sigh, “Fuck, okay.” You stumble away, looking around for another familiar face. After a few minutes, you sigh, accepting the fact that you’re just going to have to walk home.
You make your way to the door, pushing it open and the cool air hitting you causes you to gasp. You step out, wrapping your arms around you as you start to walk.
You come to a stop as you look for your pack of cigarettes in your purse, pulling it out to grab a stick from the slightly crushed package. You place it between your lips, returning to look for your lighter.
You bring it up to the end of the stick and click it a few time, but it doesn’t light. You let out a huff as you look around to see if there’s anyone else around.
You spot a guy walking towards you, but you don’t say anything as a bad feeling settles in the pit of your stomach. You pluck the stick from your lips and look both ways before quickly crossing the street.
You blink a few times as you focus on walking home, but a voice catches your attention, “Hey. Need a light?”
You glance back, “No, I’m good.”
“You sure?” He walks closer to you and you walk away, glancing in front of you before looking back, “Yeah, I’m sure.”
You bump into someone, taking a sharp breath when you feel hands on your arms, “I-I just want to go home.” The guy shrugs, “We can walk you there.”
“No, that’s okay.” You go to move around him but he stops you again, “Please, we insist, baby.”
“She said no.”
You look around, but you don’t see anyone.
“Who’s this guy?” The guy behind you walks up. The guy holding onto you lets go, turning around to face where the voice came from, “Who are you?”
“I’m just someone who doesn’t want to see her get hurt.”
“Who says we’re gonna hurt her, pal?” The one guy laughs, “Just offerin’ a nice girl a walk home. So many creeps that come out at night, right?”
The figure walks forward, two more appearing from behind him, “Just let her go, man.”
You look up at the unknown hero standing before you, his eyes the bluest shade of blue you’ve ever seen.
“Not that hard.” He tilts his head and the guy standing next to you laughs, giving a shove to your hero’s chest, “fuck outta here.”
You step back, looking around for any place to go, but you’re grabbed, “You’re not going anywhere sw-“
He’s throw back against the wall, you could have sworn you heard bones crack. You stare at your hero walking up to him, picking him up off the ground like he’s nothing, “See what happens when you don’t just do as you’re told?”
You look at the other guy, but he’s lying lifeless on the ground, the two figures that came with the one, gone.
You were drunk, so maybe you were just hallucinating? You punch your arm, wincing as your nail digs into your skin.
Nope, still awake.
You shut your eyes, turning your head as soon as you see your hero giving the guys head a swift flick. The sound of his body dripping echos through your mind and you’re scared to open your eyes.
“Are you okay?”
You open your eyes, still staring at the concrete below you, “Y-yeah. I think..” you swallow, “I’m just- thank you.”
“Now wait.” You feel his hand brush against your arm and you stop, “I just- can you look at me for a second?”
You felt oddly, safe. His voice was soothing, in a weird, crazy sort of way.
You slowly turn to look at him, “I’m fine.”
He walks up to you, his blue eyes piercing into yours, “That’s good, because you won’t remember any of this, you’ll forget me.”
You watch as his pupils dilate, and you look at him confused, “I won’t?”
He snaps his head back, in complete shock himself, “Did that not work?” You turn your head slightly, “I don’t know what it is that you’re trying to do.”
“I’m-“ he sighs, “This is awkward, I’ve never.. had this happen before.”
“Have what happen?” You squint slightly, “I think I’m just as confused as you are, maybe more scared. Look, I just want to go home. I’m drunk, I need a cigarette and my head is starting to hurt.”
He lifts his hand, “Need a light?”
You swallow, bringing the cigarette back to your lips and he clicks it, lighting the end of the stick for you, “Thank you.” You inhale, blowing out the smoke, “I guess I should thank you for saving me, too, huh?”
He smiles, and wow was it ever beautiful, “Just doing what I can. What’s your name?”
“Y/n.”
“Y/n.” He nods, “Well, y/n, I’m Carrington.” He holds his hand out and you slowly take it. He brings it up to his lips and presses a kiss to your knuckles, “You’re freezing.”
“I’m only a short walk away. I’ll be okay.” You motion, “I should.. probably go.”
“Yeah.” He nods, “Um, do you want me to walk you home?”
You think for a second before nodding, “Sure.” You shrug, “Come on.” He walks up next to you, “You got another one of those?”
You nod, digging in your purse to pull out the pack, “Here.” You hand him the stick and he sighs, “I’ve been dying for one of these all night. Thank you.”
Your eyes search around as you walk, racking your brain of what that was back there, “You’re, uh. Incredibly strong..” you look over at him, “Do you work out or something?”
He nods, laughing slightly, “Yeah, I mean. Something like that.” He shrugs, “Kinda just do it when I can.”
“Oh, nice. I think?” You laugh, “Did you break that guys neck?”
“Do you think I broke that guys neck?”
“Don’t answer my question with a question, Carrington.” You look over at him and he sighs, “Maybe.”
“What do you mean, maybe?” You furrow your brows, “And what was that thing you tried to do, telling me to forget everything that happened?” You stop, “What are you magic or something?”
“Let’s just say, you’re lucky I’m not sucking on your neck right now.” He stops after the words fall from his mouth, “No, wait. That- that came out wrong.”
“Look, I don’t like bullshit, I don’t have time and I just don’t need it, so whatever it is, I’ll keep it under lock and key because right now I’m thinking about taking a different way home because you’re making yourself sound like a weirdo.”
“I’m a vampire.”
You stop, jerking your head back as you blink, “Excuse me?”
“You heard me.” He points, “Might wanna put-“ You gasp as your finger starts to burn and you drop the cigarette as he nods, “Yeah.”
You glare up at him as you bring your finger to your lips, rolling your eyes as you step on the butt, “Prove it.”
“Prove what?” He crosses his arms, “Prove that I am what I say I am?”
“Yes. Exactly.” You laugh, “There’s a change I might not even remember this because I have a lot of alcohol in my system right now, so why not?”
You blink and he’s gone, “Oh well now that’s not-“ you let out a slight yell when you feel a hand on your shoulder. You whip around to see Carrington standing there, “I can move within a blink of an eye. Watch.”
You blink and he’s at the end of the street, “Now whisper something.”
You take a deep breath, mumbling under your breath, “What a fucking weirdo.”
“I heard that.” Carrington laughs as he vamps back to you, “I’m not a weirdo. I. Am. Awesome. And you know it, too.”
You raise your brows, “This.. is too much. There’s no way. Vampires aren’t real.”
“I’m as real as they come sweetheart.” He smirks, “Anything else you want me to do?” You lick your lips, “So you like.. drink people’s blood?”
He nods, “Yes, and it’s quite tasty if I must say.”
“Are you going to kill me?”
He shakes his head, “No, I actually think you’re too pretty to kill.”
You purse your lips as you feel a hot blush roll over your cheeks, “Oh. Well, thank you.”
“Anytime.” He smiles, and watches as you walk away. You glance back, watching him grow further and further away until you look forward and he’s right there, “Oh my god.” You lay a hand on your chest, “That’s freaky.”
“Yeah, it can be. So why are you walking all alone anyway?” He walks next to you, “Shouldn’t you know that it isn’t safe?”
“My friends are bitches. I think they left me in the bar alone.”
“That’s not good. Anyone you want me to take care of?”
“While I appreciate the offer, I really don’t want to go to jail for hiring a hit man on my friends.” You look over at him and he rolls his eyes, “Come on, I’ll be in and out in a flash. Literally. They’re label it an animal attack, just like they did with the others.”
You stop, “Those were you?”
He turns, stepping in front of you, “Nah, well.” He tilts his head, “Some, not all.”
“So you just kill people for fun?” You tilt your head and he laughs, smiling as he shakes his head, “Oh you have so much to learn.”
“So tell me.” You shrug, “As weird as you are, you’re quite fascinating, Carrington.”
He smiles, rubbing his fingers over your chin, “How long do you have?” You shrug, “I have all night.” You point, “This is me.”
You walk up the steps and Carrington follows, “You know, I actually thought I’d scare you.” You turn to look at him as you push your key into the lock, “Why? I think you’re funny.”
“Funny?” He laughs, “I’m supposed to be mysterious, dark, creepy.”
“I would have thought that if you just super sped off without saying a word to me.” You push your door open and step in, “Are you staying?”
He looks down at the door, “Yeah, you see. The thing with vampires, you can’t just walk into random people’s houses.”
“Wait, that’s actually a thing?” You laugh, “I thought that was something someone made up along the way.”
He shakes his head, “Nope. You kinda need to invite me in, using those words specifically.”
You nod, “Huh, well.. okay. Um, Carrington, I invite you into my humble abode.” You watch as he takes a step in, nodding as he looks around, “You’re funny. I like that.”
You laugh, “I can’t believe I’m having a conversation with a vampire.”
“I can’t believe I couldn’t compel you.” Carrington laughs as he closes the door, “Seriously, every person I’ve compelled, they’ve listed, but you..” he sighs, “You’re an interesting, girl.”
