VAMPIRE BLANKET
This baby probably deserves a post of its own - I've been meaning to introduce you for a while now, but I'm sorry to say it's been put away (in Torpor?) for about a year.
For the past five years or so I've been part of a very long-running roleplay campaign of Vampire: The Masquerade. You may have heard of it - it's recently been re-released and updated to be slightly less unashamedly Nineties, which is great, but as the rest of my group are Gen Xers I've developed a weird nostalgia for a time period I wasn't entirely aware of at the time.
Though it has been quite fun to remind everyone else of how old they are...
"Oh, 1995? You were finishing high school? I think I joined the local pre-school in 1995! Yeah, they let me in early because I was potty trained."
Good times.
Anyway, the first square of this blanket was cast on just over two years ago, a few hours after getting back from a weekend-long music festival. I hadn't eaten anything but chips and Nandos in four days, I'd been kept awake by music until the early hours, and I'd had to wake up and pack at a ridiculous time in the morning to get home. I hadn't had breakfast. I was running on adrenaline and bad ideas. I should have had a nap.
I decided to learn Double Knitting instead.
Each square is the emblem of a Vampire clan, and is knit holding a colour in each hand. I generate the patterns from Stitch Wizard with occasional tweaks to fix odd stitches.
This is a hard goal to quantify because I'm not entirely sure how big I want to make it. I think my aim for this year should be a total of 16 squares as that covers all the major clans, but there's also a couple of minor clans, or 'bloodlines' that I'd quite like to include. Is it obvious that I started this project with absolutely no plan?
