this isn’t a question I just had to say I died and was revived by the killer combo moment of Stuffed Yet Hungry in that last ask oh my gosh
Heheeeee I’m glad you liked that! :D
tbh I was kinda wondering if you were secretly the one who sent that request, because the “vampire stuffed with human food and it hurts his stomach” thing was so similar to your answer about how human food doesn’t agree with your vampire characters! But I guess there’s plenty people out there who want to see vampires with tummyaches. ^^
(um I really love your vampire boy by the way he’s super cute)
for the oc fact thingy? vampire boy Lias cannot swim!
Oooh, why not? :o Just never learned? Afraid of the water? I guess maybe it’s not too easy to go to the beach if you’re a vampire. ^^
Elliott can’t swim either! In his case, nobody ever bothered to teach him. (Honestly if it doesn’t involve magic and/or cannot be learned from a book, he probably doesn’t know how to do it.) Then again, frolicking in the water is decidedly not his cup of tea anyway.
(my reply was too long 4 the reply button oops, hope u dont mind me droppin it here) Ooh I see! that’s so neat! I love thinking/reading abt clothes, it’s such a nice layer to making characters! (plus easier to dress a character than oneself haha) And omg dead fish sfdsf oh nooo Elliot’s description lines up p much exactly with what I imagined actually! I def was imagining black/dark colours & a jacket, I think sometimes my brain visualised like a thin black jumper underneath or something too!~
(heck I never mind stuff dropped in my ask box, it’s the bessst)
I really wish I were better at clothes! But I find it so hard, especially when it’s a fantasy world so the fashion context could pretty much be anything, you feel? Like, if it were set in an American high school, Grayson would be the kind of guy always wearing basketball shorts and Nike sandals with white socks and his friends would be like “wtf dude, go change” and he’d be like “…but what’s wrong with this?” (Oh man, now I reallyyy want his friends to make him get better clothes hehe. But I can’t decide how he should dress!)
Oooh yes, black jumper is a perfect idea! :o Smart-looking, warm for the climate, and no buttons! I imagine Elliott also has a thicker patterned one for the wintertime, and patterned wool jumpers are very normal in Oppendorff so he doesn’t think twice about it, but everyone else finds it hilarious to see this perpetually grumpy man wearing a cheerfully kitschy sweater haha.
also 🐩 for Elliot (and/or all your OCs if you feel up to it)? bc I’m curious if the imagery my brain conjures up automatically when I read g&m is anywhere near accurate haha!
Describe their sense of fashion.
Heh so I must admit that I’m a very non-visual person and have a hard time imagining clothes. xP (So I would be superrrrr interested to hear how you’ve been envisioning the characters! Especially because you dress your own characters so adorably askjjkfjsh)
But here’s the best I got:
Elliott dresses in dark colors. His clothes tend to be sort of formal, but he avoids buttoned shirts because his belly swells up a lot when he eats to cast and he really doesn’t like it if people can see that. He has a loose-cut black jacket that he often wears for the same reason. He probably also has a wool coat that he wears outdoors, because he just seems like the kind of person who would own a wool coat.
(I answered for the other characters under the cut if you’re interestedddd :D)
Grayson has all the fashion sense of a dead fish. His clothes probably don’t fit him very well. Someone should probably take him shopping.
Kara usually likes wearing breezy, bright patterned dresses or skirts with a solid-colored top. However, she hasn’t taken off her wool sweater since moving to Oppendorff. In the winter, she’s gonna look like a walking duvet.
Malia wears simple but well-made dresses in rich colors (royal blue, jewel-tone purple, burgundy, etc). She’s also usually wearing some kind of hair decoration.
I actually have no idea how Bramley dresses. Except that he probably wears tight shirts that show off his muscles and all the village girls swoon when he walks past and he is 100% completely oblivious to this fact.
Ryder spends his work days wearing comfortable clothes that are easy to move around in. If he wants to look nice, he’ll put on a sweater vest. If he’s going into town, he’ll put on a hat and maybe a scarf and wind up looking a bit like a golfer in the 1920s, except with dreads.
Share your early ideas for an OC who changed a lot since you first dreamed them up.
This isn’t so much tied to a specific OC, but in my very earliest idea for G&M, all the main characters were staff rather than students and the POV character was basically Elliott (i.e. talented, arrogant, grumpy). He would’ve had a male friend that was sort of a mix between Kara and Grayson (outgoing, relaxed, not that great of a di-mage) and a Malia-esque female rival who was equally talented and very poised. He and the rival would’ve been in a love triangle with the school soother, whose gender and personality I had not yet decided.
But yeah — that didn’t last very long. I realized it would be easier exposition-wise if the characters were students and that I wanted the social dynamics to be mostly friendly, so the POV character should be more sympathetic. Thus Grayson was born and everything sorta fell into place. ^^
