Alpha & Omega - A Vampires!Sleep Token/Reader Story.
Oh, god. Here we go then, besties. A new story I am quietly quite nervous about sharing with you all as I have no idea how it'll be received. A plethora of you wanted a vampire fic, so here, ya got one!
As I mentioned a while ago, I wanted to work on the idea of the main character being part OC, part reader, so while my female lead Grace White is an OC of sorts, you read it as her, from the "you" perspective. I shall now away to bite my fingernails while waiting to see what you all think. Eeek!
Summary - In the tranquil village of Little Norton, your life can be described as comfortable, quiet and idyllic. One night, though, it takes a dark turn when you finally come face to face with the eerie presence you’ve sensed watching you from afar for months, encountering a mysterious vampire on your way home. His arrival in your life sets off a chain of events that lead to you becoming inextricably tied to him and his family, learning of the complex dynamics within it, as well as the greater purpose you represent to them.
A proposition and a promise are offered, yet to agree will see life as you know it changed forever. Are you ready for such a commitment, or will you leave them beneath the dark shadow that has followed the four undead men for centuries?

PROLOGUE.
The radiance of dusk threatens on the periphery of the sky, the sun rapidly sinking, casting its final hues of burned orange, a divine watercolour sending the day to sleep. The lullaby of nightfall blooms, the darkness unfolding. Shadows settle across the landscape, bringing forth within it all who wake beneath the ink of night.
It’s always under the gloomy cover of darkness lately, that you feel the hairs at the nape of your neck stand on end, as if watched by something, someone, lurking within the bloom of dense black shadows. It skitters up your spine like a phantom’s touch, that feeling of presence at your back, yet there is never a physical entity. No bogeyman, no nothing.
That you can see, at least.
Your brain sends the message to your feet that haste is required all the same, rushing your steps along the narrow country lane. The light from The Red Lion, your local village pub illuminates your path, the chuckling and merriment of the patrons within just as warm as the glow coming from the windows.
“Hullo, Grace!”
Old Jack Shelton, the village butcher. A lovely man who probably should have retired some years ago, but loves his work far too much to lead an idle life. Marjorie, his kindly wife runs the small section at the back of the shop dedicated to local farmers produce, items such as eggs, cheese and preserves. They are a staple within the village as much as any of the buildings themselves.
You smile, waving, the smell of rich, slightly sweet pipe tobacco clouding the air thickly as you pass by. Oh, how he detested the implementation of the smoking ban all those years ago. He still gripes about it now.
“Hi, Jack. Cold one tonight, isn’t it?”
You don’t really know him well enough to go beyond such mild pleasantries as commentary on the weather, the old man obliging you in agreement and wishing you a safe journey home. A somewhat empty platitude, especially since the small village never truly seems to wake up. It’s a quintessentially quaint, sleepy little settlement carved within the picturesque English countryside.
There’s no pulse here, nothing vibrant, the tranquil beauty offered there the very draw to life in Little Norton, yet what you can feel at your back as you continue on past the pub has not only a pulse, but teeth.
It’s a sharp light splitting through the night air, yet cloaked and drawn back, and while it might be able to conceal itself from sight, it’s the energy of it that thrums out, bleeds into you like a watercolour. It seeps into your skin and coils around your bones, but the sensation of it is never warm. In bizarre juxtapose, it isn’t cold or foreboding, either.
It’s just there, and it’s been just there for months. What makes it even more curious a sensation is that it didn’t begin right there in your home village either.
The first instance of feeling as if you were being viewed from concealed eyes happened back in May, while you were on holiday in Tokyo. The presumption you held in mind at the time was that the energy, the vibe of the bustling metropolis was what you could sense as you trawled the streets during the night hours.
You never expected for it to pick back up again a mere two months after your arrival home, but put it to the back of your mind, dismissed it as simple paranoia and nothing more. The way it’s strengthened of late, though, you aren’t altogether sure if it truly is something solely located within the recesses of your own imagination.
It’s been five months, and still it persists.
“I know you’re there,” you breathe, your breath clouding white through the cold air surrounding you, your cottage around the bend in the road coming into sight. “I always know when you are. Whatever the fuck you are. Mightn't even be an actual thing. Maybe you’re a ghost? I dunno.”
A gentle breeze skims through the darkness, barren trees swaying from side to side as it dances with them, the huge, rolling fields flanking the lane dotted with the faintest outlines of the fluffy fleeced sheep who graze within them. The occasional baa breaks the silence, an owl hooting nearby, the night quiet other than the sounds of nature.
Rummaging in your bag for your keys, that ever-present feeling at your back intensifies, so much you that you gasp suddenly, your skin prickling, turning rapidly. Of course, there’s nothing there, not a soul, but the feeling lingers, unable to be shook, pouring and pooling over you thickly like tar. It clings, and you feel your heartbeat accelerating, finally retrieving your keys from under the hiding place of your makeup bag and turning.
That’s when you see him.
Your path is blocked by the enormity of him, your eyes widening, a shrill scream ripping through your throat. Can Jack even hear you from here, your last vestige of safety? Will the kindly, pipe smoking man rally a few of the other villagers and run to your aid after hearing your terrified shriek? Your housemate will be no use to you, likely with his earbuds jammed in, listening to a podcast.
Stepping backwards, you attempt to look away from the being, the creature, whatever the hell he is who's suddenly blocking your path. Quivering all over, you jam your keys between your fingers, thrusting your fist forward.
“G-get away f-f-from m-me.”
He makes no move towards you, simply standing rocklike there in the middle of the narrow pavement. Your eyes flit over him, picking out the details quickly, mind in a whir as it attempts to process them. He, it, whatever he is, is not attired like a regular person.
A long, black robe adorns him, hood pulled up over his head, an intricate mask hiding half of his face. Flashes of gold decorate him, necklaces that hang low over his well-defined chest, his rings catching the twinkle from the pale light of the moon.
He remains motionless, stiller than an ancient statue, his bare chest as well as any other revealed flesh pitch black as the night that surrounds you, not even trembling in the cold. Not even breathing.
Oh, god.
You blink, and in the space of it, he’s no longer a few feet in front of you. He’s so close, the deadness in him bleeds into you, that swirling mass of nothing within the vessel of what used to carry the essence of a human so palpably radiant, you understand now why you always felt him there so strongly. It’s confirmed to you, and the horror of realising who and what he is clutches at your heart like the grip of an iron fist.
Trembling, you attempt to put space between you, stumbling, feeling yourself about to trip and land on your back. He moves, swifter than your eyes can detect, a gentle grasp around your upper arm preventing your tumble. He stares at you, his eyes concealed behind the intricacy of the mask, waiting until you regain your footing before he lets you go.
You almost feel like he’s gazing through you, attempting to see straight into your depths, and you feel yourself blush, your heart crashing in wild palpitations against your ribs. He leans close, and you see them through the thick, black gauze. Red eyes, glowing vermilion, unblinking yet not unkind. Not predatory either; yet studying you with the same intensity and curiosity all the same.
Something in you slackens, a feeling of unclenching, realising that if he meant you harm it would have likely befallen you by now. You know exactly what he is, and they do not toy. Not if they’re hunting. Not if they’re hungry. Instead, you experience a bizarre sensation, a feeling of ease floating over you, soothing the nervousness coiling tight inside your tummy like a venomous snake; one you are still not a hundred percent sure is going to strike you or not.
He leans closer, and his scent is enchanting, his aura matching, pulsing with a radiance that echoes into your skin. You hear the whir of air, and realise he’s breathing in, something quite unnecessary for a creature who doesn’t need to, his closeness making every hair on your arms stand on end.
Straightening, he looks down upon you, and with a slow, deliberate, creepy tilt of his head, he smiles. God, he’s beautiful. Every better judgement within screams at you in jaggedly shrill cries not to notice it, that the captivating beauty of him is likely his trap, one which you could tumble so easily into the jaws of.
You wait for it, wincing, your fingers wringing around your keys.
He lifts his chin. “Omega.”
In a blink, you’re alone again, that prickling feeling at your back eased entirely. Letting out the breath you weren’t consciously holding, you feel your vision open up once more, the night broadening back now he isn’t demanding your gaze.
Your eyebrows knit, shaking your head. Omega? What in the world does omega mean? Well, you know the actual meaning of the word, omega being the end, but why in the name of all things sensical did he speak it to you? Turning, you search the blackness for him, finding no sign.
A heavy sigh forces from between your lips. “Fucking vampires!”

The grass is soddened beneath your back, tumbled to the ground with him, hands grasping with desperate tugs at soaking clothes, your kisses reaching a scorch of wildfire. The hunger grows like a beast unfed, prowling, a force not to be negotiated with, only sated.
It moves at a pace of its own, with you merely the passenger to your own raging, threshing desire, his hand literally tearing the last barrier parting you away, Ves throwing the torn remains of your underwear to his side as he slots himself between your thighs. The throb within you pulses hot, thighs widening to accommodate his lean bulk, yearning, craving, needing him to...
“Ahhh!”
He kisses the cry from your lips, his hands clutching you tightly as he sinks into you with a solid thrust, the size of him near unbearable to take. While you keened for it, you truly weren't ready to receive something so big cutting into you with blunt force, but your body provides, your walls beginning to slick against his humongous cock.
This isn’t about foreplay, or savouring, there’s no room there beneath the brunt of the storm for gentle explorations of sexual discovery. Its desperation unleashed, the need to be joined overriding anything else as there, lashed upon mercilessly by the unrelenting weather, you’re finally together.
The water streams over your bodies, rocking together, locked tight in urgency, cleansed of the mess that’s blighted you. It’s a baptism by storm, purified from the complexities of everything tying you together. You move in a rhythm that feels natural, like your body was always meant to one day find his. Two pieces of the same puzzle cast apart by the wages of time, finally melding together there, in this moment, beneath the pelting rain.
He’s heavy inside of you, so full of him that nothing outside of the press of his large body to yours exists, every ridge of his cock making your trickle, aroused tingles glimmering through your core with a sharp ache you’re in no hurry to cease experiencing.
It’s like he is gravity itself pressing into you, sinking down to your bones, your mouths not breaking apart once as he fucks himself into you with long, hard strokes, remaking you around him with every sinful roll of his hips, sending a cock almost too big to comprehend so deep, you feel rearranged around it.
Your nails claw down his back, virtually sobbing into the swirl of his tongue with yours as he grinds himself against you, your clit pulsing beneath the weight of him driving in hard, sparks crackling hot as they ascend your spine. Your shivers from the freezing cold rain meet head on with the quivering of lust roaring to flame within, crying out, your thighs tightening against him as he delivers each thrust with the kind of rapid precision that has both your brain and your cunt melting.
The throbbing desire tightens, every nerve singing a symphony conducted by the ministrations of his body, making you feel as if you’re both burning in water and drowning in fire as his cock hammers it through every fibre of your being, an undoing that has you literally crying with the force it charges though your body with.
Groans pour from him as he comes seconds after you, filling you with thick ropes of cum, his body soon beginning to slow. Finally, he lies still inside of you, not ceasing your kisses for a moment, a flash through the sky illuminating your pale bodies there entwined upon the ground, a rumble of thunder following.
Winter storms are a rarity. As is what you feel, lying vanquished beneath him, breathless and shaking from the overwhelming potency of your orgasm.
And probably, because you’re also freezing to death.
“Want me to take you somewhere warm, darling?”
You nod, being helped to your feet. “That warm place better be your gigantic bathtub.”
He laughs softly, leaning to kiss you. “I can make that happen.”
Firstly, you both dress again in your soaking clothes after giving them a bit of a wring out sheltered beneath the cover of your back porch, Ves lifting you into his arms and having you within the luxurious confines of his bathroom in seconds. His wet clothes are abandoned, plugging the tub and turning the tap while you strip off, wincing.
“I’ve hurt you, haven’t I?” he laments, reaching for your cheek. “I’m sorry. I confess to being caught headlong in such a moment.”
“I’m a little sore, yeah,” you agree, and he instantly drops fang, opening his finger before gently placing it inside you, letting it bleed into where you tender flesh stings. Immediately, you feel lightheaded, the force of ancient blood seeping into your skin so heady, your entire body hums as if it’s beginning to float. You feel weightless, boneless, like the fibres of your being have been kissed by the moon and stars themselves.
And you thought II’s blood made you feel high when you drank it. If you drank Ves’s, you doubt you’ve ever come back down if this is how it feels on mere contact alone. His arms slip around you, and he holds you against his thick chest while you still feel as if you’re swimming through the stars, eventually lifting you up.
“Yes, my blood is a little powerful, isn’t it?”
“A little?” you exclaim, and he laughs that deep, throaty, sexy chuckle as you lean to kiss him, legs locked tight around his waist. “When will I stop feeling like I’m floating?”
He nuzzles you, and your heart soars, a feeling that has nothing to do with the power of his blood sending bliss through your veins. “I’ll still make you feel that even when it abates.”
Once the bath is almost full, he places you down and climbs in before you take your place between his legs, settling against his chest. His arms slip around your waist with the ease and familiarity of someone who’s long since learned the contours of your body, although such a sweet discovery is yet to be fully undertaken.
The hushed quiet of the room, broken only by the gentle lapping of water and the soft cadence of your breathing, cocoons you both in a rare peace. His mouth finds the curve of your neck, tracing idle, lingering kisses that promise more, but for now, contentment settles over you like the steam, thick and comforting.
You lean back, letting your head rest against his shoulder, fingers entwining with his beneath the surface, and for a moment, it feels as though the world outside, the rain, the cold, the questions and worries have all been washed away, leaving only this quiet intimacy, rich and intoxicating.
You’d be dealing in untruths if you stated you hadn’t yearned for this with him.
“This is the second bath I’ve had today,” you note, watching the wisps of steam rising from your legs.
“Ahh, but you didn’t have me in the first one, did you?”
Indeed not. A big, sexy vampire is nothing but a welcome addition to the water. “I didn’t.” You pause, turning to look at him, humming happily when he presses his lips to yours. “I missed you.”
“I missed you, too,” he whispers, hands stroking you with reverence. “I think that’s why I finally decided to stop being a twat and just, well...”
“Bang me into the lawn so hard, it probably left a body dent behind?”
He laughs, a loud burst that rings beautifully in your ears. “Yes, that’s it. In all honesty, though, I think I was grappling with a lot before. My own rising tide of envy, the very natural urge to be protective over you, truly not wanting to confuse you further by throwing myself into what must already be a very delicate balance for you to negotiate.” He kisses your head, a hand stroking fondly down your arm. “Some things are not created to be fought against, though.”
“No, they aren’t,” you reply, smiling happily. “I’m glad you gave in. I think it’s probably better you did. Before I make my decision, I need to get to know you, all of you, and that means you not hiding from me no matter your reasons.” He remains quiet, and you chase a droplet of water down his forearm with your fingernail. “I don’t know how well I’ll do with IV in getting to know him. He only drank my blood this morning because I forced him, took advantage of the fact that you vampires have a tough time passing up an open wound. This is literally the only reason I know what I do about him.”
His arms tighten around a fraction, and you know it’s him once again silently thanking you for your actions. “His life as a human was marred by such cruelty. I suppose now you understand his hostility is nothing personal. Humans were rarely good to him.”
“I do,” you sigh, remembering the way he’d trembled with the rage and shame of it, tears slipping down his cheeks. “I can’t imagine how frightened he must’ve been, being led off by the priest time after time, knowing exactly what would happen.”
“There is no sin as wicked, brutalising the innocence of children. It still brings me pleasure; to know he will never be released from his torment. Seven hundred metres he lies beneath the surface, never to be granted reprieve, until the end of all time. A fitting punishment, I thought.”
Turning your head, you kiss the crook of his forearm. “You were right to.”
A few more moments of contented silence pass between you, the cradle of hot water soothing, a question suddenly coming into your still blissed out brain. “Why did you choose them to be your offspring? And why so few, when you’ve been here for so long?”
“The curse is why so few,” he begins, and you realise you probably should have figured that out on your own. “As for them, they had unique qualities I admired. II was the most barbaric fighter I had ever witnessed, his power and skills unsurpassed. I found him dying in his camp, with what we now know to be sepsis set into a wound on his side. My blood couldn’t have cured that, it only works on wounds, not disease or infection. I offered him instead life eternal, to walk with me forever beneath the stars, allow him to continue being the great man he was.
“In III, I saw a doctor so misunderstood, cast aside by society when he should have been hailed for his vision. He still remains so brilliant, continues even now to study the medical profession, as he’s likely already shared with you. He could walk into a hospital again tomorrow and assist in saving lives, if only the pompous cunts who cast their rule over us would let him.
He pauses, his smile a touch fonder, something softening in his eyes. “Finally, in IV, I didn’t so much see greatness as I encountered a lost soul who reminded me of myself. He was truly all alone, had no understanding of family, of loving bonds. I’m glad I could give him that, prove to him that we could be trusted. The stories of our existences have been marked by different tragedies, but together in the eternity of our vampirism, we have woven something truly remarkable as a family.”
A family you find yourself drifting closer towards, your own threads tangling with theirs. Some intertwine with complexities, little knots that you realise will take much undoing, others knitted flawlessly. You’re a part of the tapestry now, but whether your woven scene will continue, or remain a mere flash of an image in their eternal lives is still to be contemplated.
You lie in comfortable conversation until your fingers begin to prune, climbing from the tub and drying off, moving into his bedroom. There, your bare skin is kissed by the warmth of the roaring fire, Ves standing before you, his hand reaching to remove the clip from your hair. It tumbles into his fingers, his lips finding yours, kisses of sensual, soft longing exchanged as he guides you down to his huge bed.
What you shared outside was driven by primal urgency, all need and fury. Now, though, with the entire evening ahead of you, the heat between you burns slow as you make time for acquaintance through exploration.
Your hands traverse him, enjoying the feel of hard, lithe muscles undulating beneath your palms, finally granting yourself the desire you kept locked deep in your thoughts from the very beginning; the desire to know what it is to touch him.
Whatever god or higher power created him, they crafted him into a being of deadly intent wrapped in sublime beauty, yet there is nothing dangerous in him as he maps paths over your skin with his fingertips, kissing your slow, his smooth chest beginning to steadily rise and fall beneath your hands.
The path his hands take are followed by his mouth, little skitters running like currents beneath your skin. He reads them, mapping each with kisses, wet trails from the tip of his tongue marking every judder. His touch is delicate yet precise, a hum of erotic divinity already winding tight in your core, your walls becoming dewy and pulsing with desire as his lips close around your nipples in turn.
Curling tendrils of warmth creep through you, watching as he flicks his tongue over one of those pink, pebbled peaks receiving the focus his mouth, a faint, aroused growl rattling in the back of his throat, eyes bled garnet. He leans to you, thumb dragging over your lower lip, the kiss he presses to your mouth evoking a deep crackle of heat.
“You are so impossibly beautiful, Grace,” he murmurs, nuzzling you softly. “I could live my time all over again and still scarcely comprehend such radiance.”
These creatures... between the sexual prowess and words of affirmation, they’ve ruined humans for you entirely. Nobody makes you feel quite as revered, or as alive, as the attentions bestowed upon you by living death.
Each of your breaths are pulled in shakily, his mouth once again wandering over you. Your neck, arms, chest and torso are worshipped, and you know there’s a tiny little bit of menace there beneath the veil of such a wholly considerate lover. He’s making you keen with the thought of where his mouth could go, and every sensation it’ll bestow once it arrives there.
Until then, your body bounces with the tiny lightning strikes the press of his lips and swirls of his tongue evoke, the thousands upon thousands of years learning exactly how to revere a woman’s body making you feel mindless from it; and he’s barely even begun. Your body sways, hips pushed back down by two big hands warmed from your skin, his tongue swirling at the juncture of your hip.
His hands tour your legs, pushing them to part wide, lips pressing kisses slowly up your inner thigh. From that first view of you spread before him, he’s transfixed, caught in the battle to tease you a little longer versus the need to sate his own desire by burying his mouth against the soft, dewy pink of your cunt.
He settles somewhere between the two, knowing he has you near out of your mind for his touch, tongue fluttering over a spot upon your thigh as he brings his fingers to you, stroking over your slit. Your hips buck, a mewl spilling over your lips like wine, jolting at the feel of him laying a soft bite to your flesh.
Transfixed at the sight of you, your pretty womanhood splayed before him, he gently teases your opening with his fingertips, groaning a deep rumble as he slides them into you fully. You flex with a soft clench of appreciation, feeling him moving them in circles over your front wall, widening, narrowing, his exploration pulling whines from you as your body begins to shake.
The intensity of his ministrations sends a glow of bliss tingling over your skin, fingers mapping every single nerve ending, pressing into them to send you on a breathless trajectory to the edges of heaven. You can feel yourself growing wetter, unable to believe he has you so mindless from the press of two fingers alone, those widening and tightening circles drawn so precisely, you feel yourself ascending already.
You lurch against his touch, and he gives you more, pressing firmer, eyes ruby dark as he watches you closely, peppering kisses against your inner thigh. Your walls spasm, thousands of tiny glimmers rushing over your nerves, barely able to believe he’s got you there with such little effort, your cunt streaming over his fingers as you begin to cry out on every soft pant.
“Mmm, that’s it, darling,” he murmurs, “come apart for me.”
It breaks over you cataclysmically, every muscle locking as you quiver hard, goosepimples flushing over your skin, the burst of pleasure shining over you like the bright of dawn. You shake violently, his free hand soothing you as it sweeps over your body, fingers gentling, lips kissing their way down your thigh.
You feel drunk on him entirely, head spinning, heart still pounding. “Oh, my god,” you pant, “what the hell did you just do to me?”
He chuckles, tongue flicking over your mound. “Blew your mind, apparently.” Oh, he’s smug with it, but he has every right to be. “And to think, I’ve only just begun.”
The tip of his tongue makes contact, your outer lips traced, fingers still gently moving in a wave within before widening, holding you spread, a softly flickered lick landing upon your opening. Tingles suffuse, your mind feeling syrupy and feverish at that first contact of his tongue licking at you, your gaping little hole tickled by cool wet.
His fingers leave you, Ves sucking them clean with a grunt, tongue returning to circle around your opening a few times before dragging, slow and firm right to the crest of your slit. You hiss with it, the first slicks of his tongue moving intently over your clit, hands fisting the pillow beneath your head, your back arching elegantly like a bow.
You’re losing your mind, panting hard, your moans rich and sinful. “Please, please don’t stop!”
He settles into a rhythm, eyes falling shut, hands curled around your thighs and grasping, holding you spread as his tongue whirls with light, then firm contact. The contrasting stimulation blacks out your brain for a moment, sends you fuzzy with it, pleasure fanning through you in warm waves.
Your hips move in soft little ruts against his mouth, and he knows you need more, tongue firming to flicker hard, sending you boneless, his lips closing over your bud to suck with a baritone rumble. Your pleasure comes sharp, his cheeks hollowed out, the epicentre radiating to meet the soft pulsing within your chest, tingles suffusing even further when he adds the pressure of a rolling tongue.
His mouth, warmed by the incessant gorging upon your slick sex, works you hard but with lazy heat, humming around you quietly. His fingers stroke over your thighs, reverent fingertips circling in time with his tongue, flint strikes crackling over your entire body. Closing your eyes, your fingers sink into the soft of his hair, and it hits you like a thousand tiny illuminations, the slick of your release flowing onto his tongue. But oh... he doesn’t stop.
The rolling of his tongue gentles, tracing the tip around your slit until you cool down a little, the crimson of his eyes almost bled to black from the inking of his pupils, lust blown and focusing on you intently.
“You taste so fucking sweet when you come.” he groans, gently dipping his tongue into you, the little nudge of his nose against your bud making you gasp. He eventually returns his mouth to it, soft licks building you again, hands traversing your sweat beaded body, the pleasure pooling syrupy and deep.
He makes you feel so good, it almost hurts, the throbbing ache within sated partially by his fingers slipping into you, two then three, trawling your depths, ecstasy blazing as he sucks on you again. It becomes too intense, winding tight, your tummy jumping as lightning starts to flicker, and he reads it, backing off the contact.
You’re held there in that torturous precipice, not quite allowed to tip over, your cries loudening as the fever within you burns like a forest fire. You’d curse the way these creatures can finely tune their touches to this level of skill... if it didn’t feel so criminally good.
You sob, your body jerking and trembling with it, your overly sensitive cunt trickling hot over his fingers, Ves working you to it, backing off, sending your thoughts to pure static. You’re floating through the garden of his pleasure, need pulsing strong to feel anchored to the moment again, that tethering delivered when he moves to kneel before you, letting your ascension finally reach its crest as he feeds his cock slowly into the soaking mess of you.
With every inch that slips in, you’re laddered higher and higher into your release, fluttering around him madly as he leans to you, hands bracketing your face, mouth pressing to yours. It feels like something torn from you, both broken from your soul and fused to it at the same time, Ves pulling from your mouth as his fangs snap.
Oh, how you crave for him to bite you, but you know even if he could, if your blood didn’t affect him badly, he wouldn’t. You do receive your wish granted for teeth, though, once his fangs have receded. Little bites crush sharp at your neck, his cock pressing thick and deep into you, as much as you can physically manage before he pulls back agonisingly slowly.
“Fuck...” he exhales on a shuddered breath, his chest beginning to rise and fall. “You feel, ahhh!” Moving, he pitches your legs over his shoulders, a couple more of his many inches sinking in, leaning to you once again to offer kisses steeped in sugared embers. Pushing back, he fills you again, and you have never felt so stretched, the sound of it lewd, sinful, your walls glossing him thickly at the wide heft of his shaft.
The heat of it is incandescent, an inferno unchecked, his hands everywhere as he gazes at you, inhuman growls echoing up through his throat. Your tummy clutches tight, feverish want feeling like it’s burning a hole within you, sparks scraped by the repetitive, deep spearing of his cock. Moving his thumb, he brings it to your clit, the little bud still oversensitive, his touch accommodating to that.
“You look so impossibly pretty, split so wide around my cock,” he virtually purrs, a little shift of his hips sending him at a different angle, making you cuss and whimper. “Mmm, yes. That’s it, my beauty. Let me hear every one of those sweet little moans.”
The rhythm of it sends ecstasy splicing through you, your spine alight with it, falling apart beneath him with a feral wail as you come for the... you’ve lost count. Fourth time? It matters not, Ves slipping your legs from your shoulder and hauling you up so you’re astride him, giving you no recovery time as he begins to bounce you upon his cock.
Glimmers race, tingles suffusing around the fissuring of him, and you feel it again, the current of bliss dragging at the edges of your focus. You clutch onto him, save going limp, but your arms feel like jelly. He tightens his hold, smiling widely when you mouth ‘oh my bloody god!’ at him, kisses soft.
“Told you I’d make you feel like you were floating.”
He wasn’t wrong, although the magic of his blood still casts its spells upon your consciousness, it’s the pleasure he gives taking centre stage here. It’s soul-rending magnificence, to share intimacy with a vampire who has had an eternity to utterly master it. The pleasure of it builds once again, but this time sinks into you rather than thudding out, a drawn-out wash of light glowing over your entire being, his hands slowly sliding down your glistening back.
Grasping your bum, he pulls you tighter against him, driving his hips up into the viscid clench of your cunt, his moans thickening as his chest heaves and he spills into you. His body shudders from it, forehead rested to yours, humming contentedly against your lips.
“I’d keep going, but I don’t want to split you in two.”
Entirely possible, being that he has a cock like a small arm holding onto a bloody apple!
“I’d appreciate a rest, yes,” you sigh with soft laughter, kissing him again. “You’re a lot of vampire to take!”
He hums a chuckle, leaning to move the duvet back and carefully place you beneath it, cock slipping from you with a very audible schlick. “I know. Some women haven’t been as brave in my past, but you likely do not want to hear about such.”
Your eyes widen a touch, reaching to poke his chest with your index finger. “I do if they’re funny stories.”
He tries to bite back his grin, but it doesn’t quite work. “Mm, some are, actually. Recently, there was a woman when I went away on business to Greece last year who fainted when she saw it. Then there was the woman in Florence seven years before, who screamed and ran out. II didn’t stop laughing about her for around half an hour, such was his entertainment at the situation.”
You find yourself giggling, although you understand the apprehension. If you’d seen it before being arrowed with it, you might have had a few reservations, being that it’s the hugest thing you’ve ever seen swing between someone’s legs. “Yeah, I sort of don’t blame them.” Your eyes flit down, then back to his face. “It feels amazing, though.”
He looks quietly smug. “Why, thank you."
“So, you mention business,” you venture, because you have wondered. “III said something about you having a lot of properties you rent out. Is that how you became so obscenely wealthy?”
He turns onto his back, pulling you near, and you rest your head against his shoulder. “In part, yes. Before then, I had amassed a huge wealth from the selling of ancient antiquities, although as far as inland revenue are concerned, that money doesn’t exist.”
You smile, tracing a circle around his nipple, watching it begin to peak against your fingertip. “You’re very shrewd, aren’t you?”
“Yes,” he chirps, looking pleased with himself. “If you ever find yourself short of cash, too, you’ve only to come and ask. The vault was installed in the very last room at the end of the hallway, so I have an ample stack on hand. As I stated to you before, I have entirely too much money to know what to do with. It keeps my offspring very comfortable, so you should take advantage of that, too.”
It makes you feel a little uneasy, to hear such words, being that you’ve always very much been a proponent of finding your own way in life. The only real windfall you’ve ever had was being left your grandmother’s house. “That’s very generous of you, but I like being able to pay my own way.”
Those words, oh, you’re a tonic to him. He can spot them a mile away, women who only see him for his money. The last he had within that very bedroom, who he attempted to distract himself with while you were in the next room over with II, was very much that type of woman. He watched her mentally adding up his worth, dreaming of slotting herself into his world to become nothing but a spoiled, pampered girlfriend, should she be lucky enough.
He never saw her again.
Reaching to your face, he strokes your cheek, his smile warm. “You truly are a rare breed, Grace.”
“I don’t think I’m that rare,” you shrug. “Plenty of women out there enjoy providing for themselves without the cash of a man to fall back on. Perhaps you’ve been attracting the wrong type of woman?”
He chuckles softly, leaning to kiss your head. “You have absolutely no clue over your rarity. And yes, I think I probably have.” He studies you, finger gliding along your jaw, your own eyes focusing on him just as intently. He’s so beautiful to you, but not at all in the conventionally handsome way. High cheekbones, an unproud chin upon a nice jawline, pretty lips, a long neck and huge, blue eyes. “What?”
“Nothing,” you whisper softly, leaning to plant a kiss on those pretty lips. “I was just thinking how lovely you are to look at.” Shuffling closer, you press your mouth to his, turning him onto his back. “I think I’m rested plenty.”
He chuckles, and the sound is rich and velvety. “Oh, well far be it of me to stop where your mouth is going.”
In truth, you’re probably not rested enough, still aching between your legs, but part of that throb is gilded in want for the vampire whose chest you pepper hot, open-mouthed kisses across, descending to his abs. God, he’s so chiselled, like he’s been carved from alabaster, your tongue touring the dips and rises of his muscles, chasing licks over every shadow cast upon him, hand reaching down to grasp his cock.
Mmm, he’s still like iron, your grip pumping slowly upon him, staggered by the feel of it, the huge girth that narrows a little more as the base, feeling him twitch against your fingers as a soft grunt rends the air. That sound deepens considerably when you bring your mouth to him, fingers gently tugging his foreskin back to suck upon the nerve ending rich head concealed beneath.
Tentatively, you slip more of him into your mouth, relaxing your jaw, feeling the heft of him pressing onto your tongue. It’s a strain, trying to accommodate him, being mindful of teeth placement.
“Sorry, I’m trying, but... not to labour the point about you being a lot to take,” you say, pausing to flick your tongue over the head of him.
It sends the kind of bolts up his spine that render him mute for a few seconds. “I don’t expect you to break your jaw in attempt to, darling.” A few more flicks, a very aroused growl. “Doing what you’re doing right now... fuck. No words. Other than please, don’t stop.”
Hearing that little twang of desperation in his voice fuels your desire, turns it into a thing that runs on its own momentum, your tongue laying quick slicks all over the tip of his cock. You let a liberal trickle of saliva roll down his shaft, lubing him plentifully to the clutch of your hand, working him in time with your mouth.
Suck, flicker, squeeze, pull, moaning as you pleasure him, watching as his chest begins to softly rise and fall. It will never be something you tire of, rendering a creature capable of such barbarity to a brain-scrambled mess beneath your touch.
“Mmm, yeah. I love the way this beautiful cock feels when it pulses in my mouth,” you purr, dragging your nails over his abs with your free hand, his groans thickening, loudening, arousal amping sharply. “That’s it, oh wow. You’re so bloody hard. I can’t wait to feel you come right down my throat.”
Whether human or vampire, if there’s one thing males cannot get enough of, it’s being dirty talked to as they get close, Ves reaching that point a lot quicker than you anticipated, your tongue working him diligently, a cold jet of cum coating your tongue as he groans low. Swallowing, you move back up the bed, placing yourself astride his hips and sinking down onto his still twitching cock, bracing your hands against his chest.
Your mouth falls open, feeling him so, so deep inside you, his hands moving to your waist as you begin to ride him slow. Each sinfully sensual roll of your hips has his cock hitting you at every angle, every depth, his hands beginning to tour your skin, the mutual share of desire shared not wavering for a moment.
The rise and fall of your bodies, the intensity of your tryst plays out like a dance, sometimes languid, often fervid, right throughout the small hours. In fact, it borders on brutal shortly before the break of dawn, but oh, how you thrive.
To have him pounding into your soaking wet, ruined centre from behind, spanking your bum with hard strikes, with your hair wrapped around his fist as he holds your bent like a bow is erotic bliss in the extreme. The fact he’s growling low and predatory with his fangs bared as he does it does nothing but ramp up the already scorching heat.
You crest with a shrill cry, spine alight with nirvana itself, Ves pulling from you, yanking you around to face him, pushing his cock into your mouth and fucking you until you gag, but ultimately do not spill a drop as he comes deep in your throat.
Panting hard, you lick your way up the trail of hair leading to his navel, over his heaving chest, biting his neck as he recedes his fangs, your mouth crushing to his in kisses full of smoking embers.
“Again,” you demand, pulling him down atop you, feeding his cock back into the burning wet of your cunt.
He arches an eyebrow. “You’ll be sore come the evening,” he warns. “I can’t give you any more of my blood, you’ve probably had too much as it is.”
You have, and even with only the application of it to your skin, you’re high out of your mind and very, very horny. Of course, he knows that. “Don’t care,” you beam, biting his lower lip, tongue swirling with his. “I want you again.”
“Well, what the lady wants,” he begins, kissing you sensually, his mouth moving to your throat as he arrows into you fully. “The lady gets.” He then looks down upon you with a wink. “Eventually.”
Slipping from your heat, he kisses his way back down your body, the connection of a rolling lick over the pearl of your sex making you jolt. If that’s what you’re going to receive, then eventually is just fine.

While you were too exhausted to remain awake, your vampires left you to sleep after their sweet annihilation of your body. When you wake at 10am, it’s only II returned to you, curled up around you, deep in his dead rest.
You kiss his head before scrambling out from beneath his arm, noting that even though you have black bed linen on, you’ll have to hope all of the blood dried upon it washes clean before pulling on your robe and going to seek a little cleansing of your own body.
“You’re up late,” your dad comments as you enter the kitchen after showering and dressing. You do the greatest double take in the world at seeing who else is there with them.
“This is early for Grace,” IV speaks, standing at the large cooker, checking the progress of the bacon in the pan before him. “She usually runs on vampire time.”
“What the hell are you doing up?” you speak, moving to him, kissing his cheek.
He rolls his eyes. “Obvious, ain’t it?” A nod gestures to the pan. “Cooking breakfast for your parents. Thought you could probably do with a lie in.”
His wink gives nothing away to them, but of course, he knows exactly what you were up to with his siblings during the early hours. Your slightly embarrassed smile has him chuckling a little, putting his arm around you and kissing your head.
“Now you’re up, I’ll leave it all in your capable hands.”
Smiling, you give him another kiss. “See you in the evening. Love you.”
The words leave your lips before your brain can even process the statement, but you know you do, especially after seeing him put in this kind of effort with your parents. For him, it truly is a sign of his commitment to you, to push aside his own deep-seeded hatred of humans and be attentive to them. He doesn’t exactly look happy doing it, but it’s a small victory you’ll happily take, and a huge step for him, too.
He nods, winking. “Love you too, sugar.”
Oh! All you desire right now is to go upstairs after the rapid trajectory of his blur and entwine with him, but with two expectant parents, you cannot bask in this, you and IV both finally confessing such romantic feelings toward one another. It doesn’t mean that his sentiment ceases from tingling in your chest like glittering sunshine.
No, while following him upstairs is off the cards, you can, however, stand and oversee the frying of bacon while grinning like an idiot.
“He’s, erm, he’s very quiet, isn’t he?” Your mum speaks, jerking her head in the direction IV vanished in. “There’s something about him that, I don’t know, seems sad?”
That’s putting it mildly. “I won’t go into details, but yes. His life as a human was horrific, marred with neglect and abuse. It’s why he doesn’t really like people. Trust me, for him to stay awake and do this for you both? Huge.”
Your dad tuts, shaking his head. “Poor kid.”
That’s a surprising reaction, given his thoughts the previous night. It surprises you so much that you clip the desire to correct him, too, choosing not to remind him that IV is no kid at over thirty years older than him. It must be strange for someone to get their head around, though, being that he’ll never age past thirty-two.
“Oh, babe,” you mum gasps, while you plate up the bacon, moving then to where the poached eggs have been drying on a piece of kitchen paper. “Horrid, absolutely horrid for him to have gone through that. Makes me want to give him a big mum hug, but he probably wouldn’t like it, would he?”
Your eyes widen immediately, moving to place the already sliced bread beneath the grill on your way to the fridge to fetch the butter. “No, he wouldn’t. Mind you, he surprised me with this. I wouldn’t try it, though. He’s... yeah. Bit of a work in progress.”
Assembling the food, you note that your work in progress made enough for you too, likely on the off chance you would rise early enough to eat it, taking a seat at the table with your parents.
“So, are you any easier with the idea now, dad? Of this being the life I’ve chosen?” you ask tentatively after a few mouthfuls of food have passed your lips.
He looks thoughtful while chewing through his toast, taking a sip of coffee. “Yes and no. I’ve got to be honest with you, ginge. I don’t really like the idea of you playing girlfriend to four of them, and ending up effectively married to them all, too, obviously without the legal paperwork since you can’t. However, I can’t deny what I see, and I see they make you happy.”
“Is this you giving me your blessing?”
Lamentably, he shakes his head. “Not really, but I won’t try and stop you from living your life. I suppose I’ll just have to get used to it. Your mum and I talked about it last night, and I was awake a while, thinking about it. What she said to me sank in a bit, that you’re a grown woman. Just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean I have a say in trying to stop you from making your own decisions. Ultimately, though, I don’t like it. I just can’t really deny you of your decision, though.”
That’s better than anger and all out refusal to see things from your perspective, you suppose. “And you, mum?”
“Mm,” she hums, swallowing her food. “I like them, from what I’ve learned so far. It’s going to take some getting used to for me, too, but I see very clearly that each of them utterly adores you. I also feel reassured you aren’t in any danger either, so if blessings are what you’re after, I happily give you mine, babe.”
Beaming, you lean to kiss her cheek, watching as she pulls a face. “Away, with your bacon grease lips!”
Ahh, a little levity, the three of you sharing gentle laughter. It’s been a tense twenty-four hours, but you’re relieved that it could come to some kind of resolve. Even if your dad isn’t fully on board, at least he isn’t actively trying to interfere. It means come three months from now, when you will bond with your vampires beneath the black moon, you can do so with absolutely nothing holding your back.
Not that the opinion of one man ever could, regardless of his familial tie to you.
“I think, given the events of yesterday, this is the best outcome we could have hoped for, short of his full support,” Ves speaks later that evening, once your parents have departed and you’re enjoying the quiet tranquillity of his bedroom. “It’s realistic that he isn’t going to be all smiles and sunshine over it, this set up so unconventional to anyone other than us five all in it together. I’m pleased that your mum warmed to us in the way that she did, though. Her panic was still a little palpable, but fuck, if that woman didn’t work her fucking arse off in at least trying to understand it all.”
She did, but as you learned from a few text messages received, it wasn’t without a little help. “Mel messaged me to see how things were going, and she said she sat her down and had a talk with her before they left, reminded her of the fact I’m a grown woman and that she had to at least give all of this a chance to settle in her brain and try and understand it. Also, that just because it was different, it didn’t make it bad.”
He smiles at that. “Your aunt seems like my kind of person. Feel free to invite her to stay any time you like, darling.”
You’re sure he might regret that when she’s seven beers deep, singing loudly to anything by Kasabian, her all-time favourite band. “I’ll bear it in mind.”
Settling back into Ves’s embrace, the soft firelight painting golden shadows on the walls, you let yourself breathe for the first time in what feels like days, the air tinged with relief that everything is now out in the open. The weight of tension that had been knotted through your shoulders ebbs away with each gentle word Ves murmurs, his hand tracing idle circles against your hip, and for once, future anxieties are quieted, replaced by a tentative hope that, while things might never feel simple or normal to the world outside, this peculiar, fiercely beloved life you’ve chosen is beginning to find its footing within your family.
“Should I wear a fancy dress, come the black moon?” you ask him after a few silent moments, “you know, since it’ll sort of, in a roundabout way, be me marrying the four of you when we ultimately bond?”
He chuckles, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. “It isn’t really a ceremonial exchange, but if you want to then you should. It’ll be more about what the moment means going forward than anything else.”
“I’m looking forward to it,” you reply, resting your chin on his chest. “Well, not so much that I know it’s going to make you ill, drinking my blood.”
His eyes mist a little, looking away from you for a flicker of a second. “Hmm, no. It’ll be worth it, though, for this to happen. And whatever does happen, no matter how ill it makes me, I want you to remember something. I did this with you out of nothing but the purest love for you, and for my offspring. Because I have never loved another woman like I do you, my beloved Grace Evangeline. You are never to forget that. Promise me that you shan’t.”
You’re struck by the sudden solemnity of his words, leaning to kiss him. “As if I ever could, you remind me all the time.” Kissing him again, you gently rub your nose against his. “I promise.”
He strokes your hair, his smile so loving you feel it radiating its warmth into your chest like moonbeams. “Good.” His hands then grasp, pulling you atop him, wandering over your curves as your kisses begin to gain heat. “Not too shagged out by the joint efforts of my offspring, are you?”
Smiling shyly, laughter edges at your breath, resting your face against his chest with a quiet groan. “No, I’m not. Never too tired for you.”
Turning you onto your back, he sits up, pulling off his dark blue sweater before slotting himself between your thighs. “Words I’m very fond of hearing.”
The bloom of arousal flourishes deep inside you, just from this, enjoying his lazily delivered kisses, his hands teasing the straps of your top down, the button front nimbly undone. As each bit of your skin is revealed, it is kissed by him, his dark blue eyes seeking yours as he stops for a moment to gaze fondly upon you.
You gasp softly when his mouth seeks your neck, his thumbs circling your nipples through the thin fabric covering them, continuing with his removal with a flick of fingers beneath your back, your bra cast upon the floor along with your top.
A smirk tilts his lips when your breasts spring free, Ves shifting down, cool breath fanning over your skin. The prickling pain of his teeth nipping the curve of your breast makes heat rise up your spine, his tongue circling the teeth marks he left. A guttural grunt pools in his throat when you reach down to grasp his hardness, his cock feeling as humongous as ever in your grip before between you, his jeans join the other pile of clothes, your long skirt and undies following.
“Mmmm, bloody hell,” you murmur, Ves moving back to kiss you once more. “You’re always like a fucking iron bar, aren’t you?
“When will you ever cease to marvel at it?” He asks, making you giggle a little.
“Perhaps when you don’t find it so entertaining when I do.” You reply, coaxing another groan from him as your thumb swirls the pre-cum soaked head, feeling it bob in your grasp as you bite his bottom lip, granting him your mouth when his tongue seeks yours.
The heat between you sparks wildly, his mouth going back to attending your breasts with greedy nibbles and licks, unable to get enough of them, the taste of your skin, the feeling of your nipples pebbling tight against his tongue.
While his mouth is occupied, he begins to slide his hand up your thigh, your legs parting for him immediately as he shifts in between them. “Mmm, good girl.” He tells you throatily, appreciative of how quickly you granted his access.
A shuddered breath leaves his mouth when he reaches your sex, finding you glistening for him already. His kisses always leave you hot and syrupy, though. His fingertips stroke a teasing dance across your folds, not quite touching you and in doing so making you soar, biting your lip as you arch into him, seeking his hand wantonly.
“Patience.” He chides you softly, his rumbling laughter quiet, like distant thunder, his lips once again at your throat, kisses trailing to your clavicles.
His reverent touch eventually explores your slick petals, soft and inviting to him as he opens you, like a dew-covered flower, your wetness bathing his skin. He traces soft circles around your clit, causing breathy gasps to leave your mouth, his touch beyond expert. This vampire, he knows your body, every last inch of it.
A flush of pleasure winds in your core as his fingers begin to move more rapidly, your little bud hardening, pushing out from its hood, wanting to feel as much as it can of him. You tingle and shake, your nectar flowing like a stream, your scent intoxicating to him as he kisses you fervently.
You throb to feel internal gratification, your hand now pumping his cock wildly, the moans he makes into your kisses causing you to feel a tornado in your stomach, all guttural and animalistic, the rumble of his arousal igniting to your senses.
“Please, Ves. I need you, I need to… hahhh!” You wail incoherently as two long fingers slide into your heat, your lover wasting no time in any kind of build-up and giving you exactly what you crave.
He watches you intently as he fucks you, your eyes entranced by the play of the muscles in his arm, flexing with effort as his fingers assail your slippery walls.
“Touch yourself for me, while I finger fuck your beautiful, tight little cunt.” He growls, taking the hand that’s wrapped around his erection and placing it to join his between your legs.
His head dips, watching you as you begin to stroke your clit, the glimmering you feel from both his stimulation and yours strong and pulsing, your groin burning. His cock twitches against your thigh, fluid oozing from the slit onto your hip, his arm still flexing with effort as his fingers pound you savagely.
You need him though, need those many inches of velvet encased steel, taking your hand and guiding him towards you. You think all is about to be sated, but instead he nestles his cock between your folds and instead of fucking your hole, rubs his length against your slit instead.
It’s tantalisingly erotic, being stimulated by every ridge, every thick vein, the head of his cock slipping and sliding over your clit as you both moan with wanton hunger, your hands flexing at his shoulders as you share heated kisses.
Every single way he offers his cock to you invokes sexual magic, but none more so than when he’s actually inside you, a point you both reach soon, too fired up, desperately needing to be joined to savour the deliciousness of his tease for a moment longer.
The slide in is effortless, your body so ready and keen for him he meets no resistance, Ves breathing hard through his nose as his mouth crushes yours, his cock claiming you, hands bracketing your ribcage as he bottoms out and retreats once more.
He drives back into you harder this time, your moan pouring from your mouth and mingling in your kisses, his tongue swirling with yours as your fingers stroke his hair as once again, he fills you to absolute capacity.
Your cunt grips him, making him shudder, stopping for a brief moment to enjoy those muscular twitches around him before he starts to thrust once more, one arm hooking under your leg, the back of your knee at the pit of his elbow as he pushes it further forward, deepening the penetration.
You mewl in response, your hands gliding down his broad chest as your body undulates against his, hips rocking into each thrust, the exquisite deepness of him filling and emptying you spreading tingles up your spine and down your legs.
Each punt has your body softly shuddering, your tits bouncing with the force he drives into you with, his head dipping to suck your nipples in turn before his tongue once again explores your mouth.
A circular motion of his hips bearing down into you, his cock hitting every angle, every depth, has you crying out, your fingers pressing to his mouth as he sucks them between his lips, tasting you on them, groaning as his eyes, like twinkling garnet in the firelight, find yours.
“Couldn’t love you more if I tried,” he whispers, nuzzling you, “not even if I lived my time all over again.”
He feels heavy within your fluttering walls, dragging tingles from you, igniting the coiling pleasure as his pubic bone presses your clit, the majesty of his body starting to stir the fires of your release, harder, faster, the friction tighter as you begin to clamp upon him.
Your breathless wails fill the room, coupled with the deep, guttural grunts of your lover, cursing in your ear, repeating the word ‘fuck’ in a deep growl again and again as he loses himself to you.
His hips seem to disengage as he pounds you mightily, your muscles milking his orgasm from him as white-hot annihilation consumes you both. He moves gently thereafter, slower thrusts, every last bit of his seed spilled deeply inside your quivering cunt, enjoying the little flexes around him as he strokes your hair, kissing you softly.
The rest of the evening is spent enjoying lazy relaxation, flitting between the four of them, enjoying a long bath with IV, going to cook and laugh until you cry with III, settling to watch a documentary with Ves and the early hours finding you quietly reading in the library with II before being taken to his bed to cuddle before dawn breaks.
As the sunrise ascends, you find yourself drifting between wakefulness and sleep, a soft cocoon of contentment enveloping you after the long, intimate night. It isn’t out of anything even verging on disquiet, though, more allowing the happiness of your life to bloom brightly as you lie there and take stock. There is a delicate peace in these moments, a sense of having carved out a place for yourself where love, acceptance, and belonging aren’t just fleeting. They are yours, given freely by your vampires, woven into the fabric of every new day.
“What’s all of this?” II asks, up a little later than you, coming into the kitchen to greet you with a kiss where you sit amongst a jumble of scribbled notes and a laptop with too many windows open upon it.
You gesture around at the disorganised chaos in note form. “My plan for starting up on my own. Well, the tentative ideas surrounding it. My first-year plan, my five-year plan and a hell of a lot of brainstorming where I’m probably contradicting myself!”
He leans over your shoulder, scanning the piece of paper laid before you. “You’ve spelled facilitation incorrectly. Only one L.”
With pursed lips, you turn to him. “Spelling mistakes aren’t what I need to be pulled up on!”
“The devils in the details, no matter how seemingly inconsequential,” he winks, and you give his cheek a little bite in retaliation. “Stop it,” he chides, popping his fangs. “Mine are bigger.”
“Spelling mistakes aside, does it all make sense, what I’m planning?” you ask, II drawing up a seat at your side.
“Hmm.” He reads through the jumble of notes, organising them into piles. “I’m no businessman, not by any stretch of the imagination. It all seems reasonably cogent for what you aim to achieve, though.”
“And it doesn’t fall short in my expectations and projections? You’re not just humouring me?”
He snorts softly. “I just pulled you up on a spelling mistake, love. I am not the type of vampire who’d blow smoke up your arse just to please you.”
True, he isn’t. “I do appreciate that about you, your often brutal honesty.” Pausing, you then go over your notes again, a little flare igniting in your chest. “Website, shit! I need one and I’m bloody useless with all of that guff!”
“Hmm, but Teddy isn’t,” II reminds you, “being the computer genius that he is. I bet he could probably assist.”
You’ve been so consumed by the little details that you completely forgot about that, closing your eyes and shaking your head slowly. “I’m such a twat.”
“No, you’re not,” your vampire reminds you, wrapping his arms around your shoulders and kissing your neck. “You just need to pull back from it for a while and relax. How many hours have you devoted to this so far today?”
“Three.”
He moves his head into your line of vision, arching an eyebrow. “Grace.”
“Okay, five,” you confess, moving to tidy everything away. “You’re right, I need a break. I’ll clear all of this away and go and spend some time with Teddy, ask him about the website while I’m there, too.”
II agrees that it’s probably the best idea, leaving you free to head back down to your cottage and pose the question to the man himself. Handy, really, as he’s expecting you for dinner.
“Shit! Oh, my Jesus! Do not catch fire!”
Pausing by the lounge door, you take a moment to let it all sink in with you, the atmosphere, so warm and cosy, and Teddy’s usual strife with anything kitchen related. It brings a little tear to your eye, realising in this moment just how much you miss it now that you aren’t living here full time any longer.
While there’s nothing to stop you coming back for your scheduled nights here with your best friend, it won’t quite be the same. A lot of memories have been made in this house, dating back to your infancy, visiting your beloved grandmother here with your mum a couple of times a week, right up to taking it over as your first proper home, student house shares and dodgy flats with questionable landlords aside.
It holds a beautiful sense of nostalgia, and while you had thought of selling it to Teddy rather than continuing to take rent, you know that while you truly have no financial need to, you simply can’t sell your beloved cottage. He can rent at a reduced price, you decide, and live there for as long as he desires. It will always be yours, though. No matter that you shan’t dwell within its loving walls any longer.
“Darl? What are you burning?” you call, a blonde head poking around the doorway shortly before you enter.
“The tea towel,” he speaks, holding the slightly charred item in his hands, the corner still gently smoking.
Taking it from him, you go and run the corner under the tap before binning it, glad they were a simple Asda purchase and not any of your beloved Kath Kidson ones. “So, what are you making for dinner, and can I help?”
“Steak and chips with all the trimmings!” he announces, furnishing you with a freshly poured glass of Merlot. “And you can get the plates out, I’m almost finished.”
Going to the cupboard, you take out a couple, helping him further by stacking up the dishwasher once he’s done with the various baking trays and pans before you both move through to the lounge.
“So, how did it all go, then, with the parental division’s visit?” he asks, slathering his steak in a liberal smear of English mustard.
Nodding through your mouthful of crispy, battered onion ring, you cover your mouth with your hand politely. “Alright in the end, but flippin’ hell, it didn’t begin that way!” you reveal, continuing. “Dad punched II.”
Teddy’s eyes almost roll out onto the floor. “What the bloody hell?” he cries, mouth agape, reaching for his wine. “II is great! Why’d he do it, and does he have a death wish, punching the vampire who once buried someone alive?”
Your eyes widen, nodding again rapidly. “I know, I was fucking stunned, Ted. I swear, I thought II was about to put his fist through the back of his skull. We all know how he is in that respect.” You pause, Teddy making a noise of agreement. “He didn’t do anything, though, beyond growling at him with fangs bared and reddened eyes. He just took it and then gave my dad a bollocking for acting in that way in the first place.”
You go on to explain the rest of the visit, how things eventually evened out a little, how well your mum seemed to take to them all, Teddy laughing in particular at what came out of III’s mouth.
“I really don’t expect my dad to warm to the idea overnight, especially since he did state he doesn’t truly give his blessing, but it is what it is. I doubt my vampires will ever really go so far as to say they like him either, especially not II, but at least they all liked my mum. Even IV. He stayed awake and cooked breakfast for them,” you reveal, Teddy looking greatly surprised at that.
“No way, really?” His surprise is valid, since he hasn’t even met him yet, IV still hardwired in his commitment to being antisocial back when Teddy visited your other home to meet with your vampires.
“I know, I was shocked, too. They all really tried, though, despite the fact I know my dad isn’t going to be their favourite person going forward.” You smile then, beginning to laugh a little. “Ves said he wants to meet Mel.”
Teddy snorts into his wine glass, his eyes crinkling with affection. “He’d be looking for her volume control switch after about ten minutes! I fucking love your auntie, you know I do, but she’s like the female, human equivalent of III!”
Bloody hell, he’s right, and you instantly fall apart laughing at the realisation. Inappropriate, fun loving, excitable. Yep, she is your boyfriend’s female human counterpart. II would hide from her after three minutes, and that thought has you chuckling to yourself.
Your bestie notices, cocking his head a little. “You’re really, really happy, up there with them, aren’t you?”
The smile that spreads across your face could light up the dark. “I am. They’re the loves of my life. Just the thought of being parted from even one of them brings me out in a cold sweat. I adore them.”
Teddy grins, reaching over to refill your glass. “This makes me so happy to see. Love that for you, baby.”
The easy affection between you both underscores the warmth of the evening, conversation drifting from your family – both born and found – and you find yourselves reminiscing about old misadventures in the cottage, laughing heartily at forgotten in-jokes and hilarious gaffes from a life shared under its thatched roof. There’s a gentle reassurance in knowing that no matter where your paths lead, or how your lives may fluctuate, your bond with Teddy remains a constant.
A little later in the evening, you decide it’s probably a perfect time to move a few more things up to the house, needing some assistance. That comes in the form of two masked vampires arriving the cottage five minutes after calling them.
“Ted!” III speaks warmly, pulling off his mask and giving him a hug. “Can you stop smelling so fucking sexy? You’re making me miss men!”
“I’m sorry,” he sighs, kissing his cheek. “I’m naturally irresistible!”
You and an also present II both snort laugh at the look of bliss on III’s face, who then comically chuckles, licks Teddy’s cheek and then vanishes upstairs.
Teddy wipes his face on his sleeve. “I want to say I didn’t enjoy that, but I can’t.”
You’re in soft fits as III arrives back with the first of your boxes, II going up and grabbing the suitcases as well as a pile of linens. They drove down in your car, the back loaded with your stuff quickly while you give Teddy a big hug on the doorstep.
“I bet you’re both looking forward to being rid of the masks in a few months, aren’t you?” he asks, gesturing to their covered faces.
“It’ll be nice, not being stared at by humans who don’t understand, or our own kind who do.” II replies, and you feel a little happy pang twinge in your chest. Because of them having to remain covered and thus attracting such scrutiny, they seldom actually leave the spaces they feel comfortable within, either home or places where what they are is known. It’s another reason to feel nothing but positivity that you’ll be giving them a more normal existence after the bonding process takes place.
Three months; they pass by in almost a blink.
You ready yourself for it come the early evening of the long-awaited black moon, deciding to wear a nice, but not too ceremonial dress. A simple black, scooped neck piece, glad of the long sleeves since the arrival of spring hasn’t quite brought the warmth you were hoping for. Having done your hair and makeup already after being out organising all things business, still in the fledgling stages of starting up White & Co Events Ltd, your brand new venture, you give your hair a quick brush and re-apply a misting of perfume about your person, all ready for when the sun begins to sink.
There will be a minimal amount of time once the sky has fully darkened, the blood needing to be exchanged before any of your vampires start to shift. It usually only takes half an hour from sunset for their shifts to manifest, so in that space is when the crucial exchange must happen.
You feel a little slither of nerves, but you’re unsure why, recognising that it’s probably excitement masquerading itself more than anything else, moving downstairs and into the kitchen, pouring yourself a small measure of rum. It’s while you’re sipping it and watching the sun sinking into the horizon, orange and pink bleeding away into the new ink of night that you feel two arms wrap around you.
“Evening, my love,” Ves speaks, leaning to kiss your cheek. “All ready?”
“I am,” you speak, finding the glass gently plucked from your grasp, your vampire turning you to him.
“Come here.” He wraps you in a tight hug, kissing your hair as his hands stroke you with fondness, enveloping you in his love. “I cannot thank you enough. I love you so much, my precious Grace. Never forget it.”
Looking up at him, you stroke his face, pulling him into a kiss. “Not likely.”
“Mm,” he hums, and there’s a hint of something bordering on melancholy in his eyes, your ancient one kissing you again, holding you against his chest, his body melded against yours. “I think the others will be with us shortly, and then we can begin. Finish your rum, we need a glass to bleed into.”
Something prickles at you, something within him that feels a smidgen off, but you cast it to the back of your mind. He’s likely feeling trepidation over having to imbibe your blood, knowing exactly how it’s going to make him feel. Smiling, you plan on a few suitable sexy ways to take his mind off it later in the evening, sinking the rest of your drink and moving from his arms to empty the ice cubes into the sink.
You’re joined shortly after by II, then IV, III the last to emerge from the cellar, itching the side of his neck.
“We need to get a move on,” he speaks, trying not to frown as he moves to kiss you. “It’s fucking creeping up on me.”
It does make them irritable, the ascent of the full moon. Walking out beneath it that night, you can just about make it out behind the clouds, the rare event only arising every fifty years shining away just above the thick canopy of the woodlands nearby. You stand and look at it for a second, the gravitas of its significance hitting you, your throat feeling a little tight, pinched with emotion over the importance of what you’re about to enter.
This is it, the moment the last eight months and all their complexities, joys, sorrows and blocks built in the relationships you have with the four undead creatures behind you have escalated to.
The hush of twilight settles like a benediction, and for a moment, you allow yourself to simply take it all in, how far you’ve all come, the somewhat odd, yet beautiful family you’ve built, and the sacredness of the ritual you’re about to share. With the moon’s pale glow starting to break through the shifting clouds above, you know that whatever comes next is only the beginning of a lifetime bound by love, blood, and the promise of devotion eternal.
Four husbands. Some are lucky to find one.
“Grace?”
Turning, you see the loving eyes of your Viking, smiling as he extends a glass half filled with the cocktail of their blood. “Down in one, darling.”
Taking the glass, you kiss him, nuzzling him softly. “Love you.”
“Love you more.” he whispers, the other three nearing you as you lift the glass to your lips and drink. Their blood mingles, taking like copper magic on your tongue, the potency of the more ancient of the four having an immediate effect on you. You feel a little buzzed, the four of them moving forth, IV and III gently taking a wrist each, II and Ves flanking your sides as they move your hair, focusing in on your neck.
“And now, for us to be as one, and the curse be gone forever.” Ves speaks those words with an air of solemnity and hope, four sets of sharp teeth biting into you at once.
You gasp, the pain radiating like furnace-driven heat, each of them pulling back a few small mouthfuls before sealing your wounds. Here it is, the bond now sealed in blood, everything coming full circle, waves of a contentment never felt before pulsing through you like a brand-new aura shining brightly from within. You feel it instantly, the love for each of them tingling in your veins with greater reverence, taking root in the heart of you and blooming like a summer garden.
It should be a moment of utter beauty, the marriage that has just taken place, and you want to move to each of them in turn to share in the natural affection bubbling up in your escalated heartbeat.
It should be beautiful.
“Ves?”
The noise he makes as he clutches his chest is one of bone deep pain, his face crumpling, the vampire beginning to cough. His whole body lurches, then stiffens, a feeling of horror flooding your veins like poison to witness him suddenly fall back, II moving in a blink to catch him and lie him down upon the broken patio slabs. His eyes flutter, you, III and IV all rushing to him, his mouth foundering as once again, he groans in agony.
“Ves, look at me,” you gasp in panic, clutching his hand. “It’ll pass in a minute, it’s okay.”
His eyes find yours, and your heart sinks, his hand reaching to stroke your cheek, knowing he has to summon forth the strength to speak despite it feeling as if he has just imbibed liquid death itself. His gaze, heavy with pain and resignation, locks onto yours, and the gravity of the moment settles between you.
Every line etched on his face speaks of the torment raging within, his hand trembling slightly as he brushes your skin, the gesture both a comfort and a silent farewell. You can see him struggling, as if the very act of summoning words will cost him more than he can bear.
Still, he holds on, determined to communicate what needs to be said, to leave nothing unspoken between you. He hauls the words up from his depths, dragging them from the soft corners of his heart and into his throat, his gaze burning your eyes with all the intensity of a holy beacon.
“Alpha is the beginning, and omega is the end.”
The horror. Oh, the nerve ripping, heart decimating horror of understanding that statement only too clearly. Your eyes widen as you cling onto his hand, tears beginning to fall like raindrops. The moment the meaning hits, and it feels as though every inch of your being is gripped by raw, unshrinking terror, your breath catching in your throat at the sheer enormity of what has been spoken. The sharp ache in your chest intensifies, each heartbeat echoing the agony now coursing through you.
Grief floods your senses, your hands trembling as you hold on to him, desperate not to let go, feeling the weight of impending loss settle over you like a suffocating shroud.
This cannot be. Fifty thousand years cannot come to an end like this!
Each tear that escapes is laced with the knowledge that everything has changed in an instant, the world now tilting on its axis, forever altered by the words just uttered. In that space, with your grip tightening, you are left with nothing but the raw, unfiltered pain of understanding, horror embodied, love on the brink of devastation.
It should have been beautiful.
“No, no!” you beg, while behind you, you can hear III working up into a state of raw, unfiltered panic. “Ves, don’t you leave me! Don’t you dare!”
“What the fuck is wrong with him? What... what’s happening to him?”
II stares down at his creator, tears trickling his cheeks as he strokes his head lovingly, eyes eventually moving to look at you all in turn. “The curse isn’t the only thing that will die tonight. He didn’t want me to tell you, made me swear to him I wouldn’t breathe a word of the risk, but...”
His chest heaves with emotion, a lump in his throat swallowed back down as he feels himself coming apart at the seams. “But there’s a very high chance that it’ll kill him, too.”
His words press into your skull as if hammered there with coffin nails, dread rising like a tide, your throat tightening, a pain radiating in your chest like claws are ripping at your heart. If there was one thing you were not prepared to negotiate, one hurdle your carefully chartered decisions did not factor in, it was this.
It wasn’t the fracturing of a family newly bonded; it wasn’t supposed to be devastation.
It was meant to be everything, a culmination, the closing of a loving circle of five. Yet looking down into blue eyes so beautiful, yet so eerily without life, as long as Ves remains in this heart-shattering limbo, little elation is left to be found.

The revelation erupts through the night air like a thunderclap. Chaos rises within the vampire siblings who have just discovered the devastating secret that was kept from them, swirling like a tornado, ripping their insides to shreds. The elder of the two is overtaken by fury, his voice raised in shouted rage and accusations, hands gesturing wildly as he demands answers, pain manifesting in every aggressive movement.
In stark contrast, the youngest stands frozen, the weight of loss pressing so heavily upon him that words run dry. IV’s grief is so profound, he cannot even speak. The air is thick with anguish and betrayal, the siblings each grappling in their own way with the agony of impending loss and the shock of their creator’s sacrifice.
Indeed, while IV is still, III is enraged in his heartbreak, continuing his pacing, crying and shouting.
“You should have told us! To hell with what Ves said, we had a right to know we were about to lose our creator, our fucking father!”
That’s the first time you’ve ever heard him refer to Ves as that, and it knots in your chest tightly, II looking up as he dries his eyes on the heel of his palm.
“He commanded me not to, III,” he begins, looking as if he has the weight of the world and all of its problems bearing down on his emotions, his foundations loaded beyond their capacity to withstand such tensile burdens. “And we don’t know yet, whether it will take him or not. You need to calm down.”
III’s pacing halts, his arms flailing like a puppet with snipped strings, his insides fracturing with grief. “Oh, oh and that’s really fucking reassuring, isn’t it? He’s lying there motionless, eyes like a glass doll, not moving, not talking! He’s fucking gone, II!”
The barbs of those words drag through II’s brain, his emotions swirling, knowing he needs to keep calm in order to restore the balance. As the eldest, it’s on him now, a burden he was prepared to step up and take in his creator’s stead, but one that anguishes him to command strength toward accomplishing.
III isn’t the only heartbroken one here, and maybe in his own state, he has forgotten that it is II who has been with him the longest.
Moving with a summoned grace, he halts his sibling. “I wanted to tell you.” His eyes move to you and IV. “All of you. He forbade me from it. His final death is not sealed yet, either. According to the old texts, we will only know if we have lost him come the rising of the next full moon. We must show strength for him, no matter how hopeless it might feel. We have to hope and wish on all the fucking stars above that he will come back to us. Now, I need you to calm the fuck down so I can go and look after Grace. Will you do that for me?”
III nods dumbly, dropping his head, II taking his face in his hands and kissing his forehead tenderly. “Look after IV.”
You do not see this exchange between the others, merely hearing it while your entire focus is fixed on Ves. As you gently stroke his face, tears stream down your cheeks, the sorrow weighing upon you with an unbearable heaviness, sinking deep as broken glass into your soul. The grief wracks you so violently that a sound – raw and primal – escapes your lips, so guttural and fierce that you scarcely recognise it as your own.
“Don’t leave me, please, please don’t you leave me!” you wail, your vision blurred from the sea of tears, resting your forehead to his chest as your body heaves with the force of each sob. You feel as if you have lengths of barbed wire twirling around your heart, some secret agent of the sadness ripping your insides apart pulling them, tightening, the pain of it blooming in your chest.
Each thought carries with it an unsurmountable level of pressure, the levies of your skull feeling as if they are cracking under the weight of each anxious thought, each swirling tide of guilt.
It was your blood that did this to him.
“I’m sorry,” you sob, grasping his top, your fingers bunching at the fabric in some feeble attempt to pull him back from the brink, feeling someone behind you. “I’m so sorry!”
“It isn’t your fault, sweetheart.” III binds you in a bone crunching hug, kissing your cheek multiple times. “I’m gonna get IV inside, he’s fucking catatonic. Stay with II, I’ll come find you in a bit. Love you, babe.”
“I love you, too.” you speak, wishing you were like them, that you could pull out a little of their pragmatism the likes of which III quickly adopted, save himself from emotionally climbing the walls even further. You turn to IV, but he’s glazed over entirely, III needing to physically lift him to even budge him from the spot at all, a statue frozen by the chill of his anguish.
You feel yourself pulled to your feet, and you collapse into the arms of II, sobbing with sharp grief goring at your insides against his thick chest. The comfort of his ancient blood swimming through your veins, along with Ves’s, does somewhat soften the edges of your pain, but not by much. His arms around you help further, though, when inside, you feel like the sorrow of it is breaking you apart.
“I’ll get him up to his bedroom. Come now, back inside.”
You nod dumbly, a sigh heaving from between your trembling lips, running a hand through your hair as the blur of II carrying Ves passes you back into the house. Your feet take you into the kitchen, although you’re unaware of the process in putting one foot in front of the other, your body guiding you in autopilot mode to your rum bottle. When II arrives back with you, you’re downing a mouthful without the aid of a glass.
“I’ve killed him,” you state, eyes fixing on one of the cupboards as the guilt of it washes over you. “My blood killed him. If I’d have known this would happen there is no fucking way I’d have agreed to it!”
Feeling your spiralling, seeing it, II moves to you in a nanosecond, pulling the rum from your grasp and once again, wrapping you in his arms.
“Do not say such things, my darling wife,” he soothes, hands stroking your back. Hearing him call you his wife for the first time, it should bring you the sublimest of joy, yet not much can shatter the wall of anguish bricking itself up like a fortress around your heart.
“He went into this knowing fully what could happen to him. He did it selflessly, so we might all be free of our curse. If not all of us, then just his offspring. And you know, you have to know, there is no way he would ever want for you to blame yourself. It would devastate him to hear you speak like this.” He kisses you, all his love poured fourth, arms tightening around you. “It isn’t certain yet, that he has departed. It’s fucking crippling, but we have no other choice but to wait.”
Nodding against his neck, your tears continue, pulling from his arms and wandering again without thought, your feet taking you up the stairs, arriving in Ves’s bedroom.
The fire isn’t lit. How symbolic.
Moving with heavy limbs, you cast down a kindling log to the rest, throwing a match atop it, all the while knowing that he’s lying there in state. It takes you a few moments to be able to turn around, your eyes fixated upon the armchairs, remembering the time you sat across from him and he urged you to buy clothes at his expense. He was nothing to you then, but now, he’s your world, and he’s possibly never going to re-enter it.
Eventually, you turn, seeing him lying there upon his bed, and you gasp, your heart thrumming with sadness. Moving to him, you lay your head upon his chest, sobbing against the muscle, wishing with your entire, shattered heart feel his arms fold around you.
The stillness in him, it feels different. You’re used to curling up with him while he rests, when essentially, he’s simply a dead body lying there beside you. Now, though, there’s something extra hollowed out within him, like a void that cannot be filled, a spark that has been extinguished, never to be lit again.
“You can’t leave me,” you whisper, stroking his face. “We’re bloody married now, or something like it. I’m not losing my husband like this, no fucking way.” The tears continue to trickle as you rest your forehead to his. “Please, please, come back to me. To us. To the family who love you.”
You know your words have no bearing over the hands of fate, whether he will wake in thirty days or forever be resigned to a final death. All you do know, can know for certain, is that life is suddenly plunged into a realm of nightmares, stitched together with threads of pure pain and grief, the sharp edges of it bearing down onto your heart with insurmountable pressure.
Curling into him, you rest your head in the crook of his shoulder, the wide planes of pectoral muscles acting like a pillow for your cheek, your face stained with tears that still cease in their falling. The pain of his stillness sticks in beneath your ribs, like a thorn wedged far too tightly to retrieve, no reprieve from its sharp poking at where you’re most tender.
The silence of the room bar your little sniffs and sobs, as well as the crackling from the hearth presses in around you, the bedroom door creaking open blooming like a siren as it announces the arrival of II and III.
“Wifey,” the latter softly whispers, his eyes saddening when you look for the third to enter behind his sibling, sighing sadly when II closes the door behind him
“Is he okay?” you sniff, reaching for III’s hand as he seats himself upon the bed.
His head gently sways from side to side. “No. Switched himself off.”
It’s something you didn’t know until quite recently they could do. In times idleness or dealing with burdens so stressful they wish to escape, a vampire can simply disengage themselves from their essence. It isn’t quite the same as their resting state, but not altogether unsimilar either. They simply sit there, staring at a fixed point, unable to be roused, like someone turning off a child’s battery-operated toy at its switch. It’s still there, but motionless.
“Stupid question, but are you alright?” he then asks, reaching over to stroke your cheek. You shake your head and he nods, understanding your grief all too well. He shares it with you, like you have been swathed beneath the same cloak of darkness, your sunshine blocked out entirely.
III extends his long body down then, his movements slow, eyes eventually finding Ves’s lifeless form as he rests down on his back at his side. He then takes his hand, bringing it to his chest, holding it there like a sacred object against his motionless heart.
“You can go yet, Ves,” he whispers, head sloping to rest against his creator’s. “I need more time with you. Still have so much to learn about this whole being a vampire thing.”
He pauses, swallowing hard, his lower lip quivering just a fraction as you feel II climb onto the vast bed and press himself close at your back. “Two hundred years isn’t long enough. I don’t fucking know who I am, or who I’ll eventually be without you here to show me.”
“Oi, that’s utter bullshit,” II tells him, his words delivered strongly but upon soft, loving tones. “You know exactly who you are, and if you don’t, you have us to remind you.”
III hums, but no further words follow, on a deep breath he doesn’t need to take at all, turning onto his side as he curls into his creator, like a little lamb seeking the refuge of its mother’s warmth. Seeing that vulnerability within him stirs you, pricks sharp in your chest, reaching to stroke his face, III turning his head to kiss your palm.
You search deep for words of comfort, but truly there are none. The future is clear; either he returns to you come the next full moon, or he doesn’t.
Turning to II, a little sense of practicality takes over, offers you an emotional pillar where your foundations are being slowly rocked to shaky rubble. “If he doesn’t... what happens? What do we... do with him?”
It’s a conversation already had between creator and first turned, II sitting up a little, reaching to smooth a loving hand down Ves’s arm. “If he does not wake come the next full moon, we are to lay him out and let the dawn burn him away. He doesn’t want to be interred anywhere, no grave, no urn. He wishes for the wind to take him, but did state if we want to, we could each keep a small amount of his ashes. They put them in jewellery these days, don’t they? Something like that. He updated his will, too, to reflect you being a beneficiary as his wife, even though legally you aren’t seen as such. He has provided for you in such a way.”
Being provided for financially by him truly means nothing to you, although the gesture is touching. It is a hollow consolation, with his very existence teetering in the balance, Ves neither truly alive nor dead. You would trade every penny in the world to feel him move beneath you, wrap you in his arms, speak of his adoration.
It hits you then, why over the past three months he’s been emphatically stating that you never forget it, how much he loves you. He’s been preparing you for it without revelation over his peril, of the danger he willingly put himself in, all so his offspring could be free of the curse that marked them out as different.
Just what the fuck is so wrong with being shapeshifter anyway?
Prejudice lives and breathes in all walks of life, though. You aren’t the only one who thinks that way, either.
“I’d have picked the curse every fucking time over this,” III laments, sighing, his eyes glassy. “Living as outcasts would be fine, really fucking just peachy, as long as we still had him.”
“All is not lost,” II reminds him, although you can tell from his tone he’s trying to convince himself of that just as much he is III. “And if it is, we must revere him and his memory, in what he did for us. We have to remember it always, his sacrifice, all out of his love for his family. It doesn’t make that possible reality any easier to bear, I get that, but... fuck. It’s all I have to offer you.”
That sense of practicality and reverence over Ves’s hecatomb isn’t shared by III, who simply shakes his head, tears now flowing without pause, dried on the back of his sleeve as he burrows himself a little further in at his creator’s side.
In the heavy silence that follows, your gaze drifts to the flickering fire, its orange glow casting trembling shadows across Ves's unmoving features, the dance of the flames stark against the dimness swallowing the room, and the stillness of the vampire lying in state there upon his bed.
Your breath shudders, and you grip tighter to those around you, reaching for each of their hands. II cuddles into you, his strength a silent fortress at your back, arms holding you tight as III reaches to take your hand in his.
A silence of mourning abounds, each heartbeat echoing the ache of not knowing if any of this devotion, this desperate vigil, will reach Ves where he’s gone. The weight of memory settles thick in the air, of all you shared with him in this space, the warmth of hands entwined, the comfort of a voice promising forever in the hush of night, all now suspended, waiting, just out of reach.
The night stretches out, long and slow, the three of you all reluctant to leave the space. Even when the dawn begins to break, the only movement made is to carefully peel back the covers, all three of you sinking into Ves’s bed with him, eyes raw from tears finally closing. For them, the sunrise takes them into their slumber, but you receive no such reprieve, no cease of sorrow, lying there fully clothed beneath the expensive sheets, muttering away.
“There was a time when I disliked you so much that this would have been a welcome outcome for me,” you speak, and the words, that time, it all feels so foreign to you now, lying there against his motionless body. “Back at the start, I would have fled and run away, as far as I could have gotten from this place, from all of you.”
A bittersweet tilt turns your lips, looking up at him, reaching to gently shut his eyes, unable to witness that cold, dead stare a moment longer. “I couldn’t leave any of you if I tried, so don’t, don’t you dare leave us behind.”
The statement feels redundant since you know your words will have no true sway over whether or not he stays or goes, the heartbreaking truth of it fissuring deep into your very bones, your limbs heavy with grief. You manage a few hours of sleep, but it’s fitful, ultimately disturbed by the doorbell chiming through the house and rousing you to go and answer.
An Amazon package is thrust forward, one you’d completely forgotten you’d ordered, leaving it there by the front door and wandering through the house, jumping when you reach the lounge. There, sat stiller than a marble statue, is IV in his switched off state. Moving to the armchair, you know you won’t rouse him, but still, you seat yourself on his lap, wrapping your arms around him.
“I love you,” you whisper, breathing in his scent. Sauvage; you never enjoyed that particular aftershave until you smelled it on him. “Don’t you leave me for too long, too. I need you, and I think you need me, don’t you?” More redundant words, being that he can’t hear you, but you speak them all the same. “I get it, though. You’re protecting yourself. I wish I could do it, too, rather than deal with this fucking heartbreak.”
Moving, you continue your aimless wandering around the house, slipping from room to room with no clear direction. Within each of them, you see Ves everywhere, in his design taste, his belongings placed around, from artwork to sculptures, everything that he had so carefully chosen over the breadth of his long life, here now decorating a home you’ve no idea whether he will move around within and enjoy for himself again.
There they all sit, the last vestiges of a vampire whose existence hangs so perilously in the balance, neither here nor truly gone. That is the most torturous part about it, that for the next thirty days you will be hanging in a tormented limbo, not know whether he will awake again from the near-death state the broken curse put him into.
Taking a seat in the mostly unused second living room, you suddenly feel that familiar creep of fog coming over you in swathes, opening your eyes to see Ves and II here in this very room. Well, you’re seeing it through II’s eyes. II’s eyes which are blurry.
“We’ve been together for centuries, and only now, do you tell me?”
Standing by the mantlepiece, Ves turns, his mouth a thinned line. “I couldn’t before. I needed you to be on side with me for this. I hate to have deceived you, but there was no other way.”
“Being truthful with me and not treating me as if I am a child was the other way, Vessel!” II grits, and it hurts your heart to see it in his memory, to feel the waves of pain radiating through his ancient form. He scoffs, shaking his head. “Now I know why you never let me read the ancient texts. Tell me, give me a fucking estimate. Out of ten vampires, say, how many of them die along with the curse?”
Ves moves to the adjacent sofa, sitting slowly, steepling his fingers. “If you seek statistics, it’s roughly eight out of ten who never wake up again.”
“Oh, fuck off!” A huge, dismissive sweep of his hand is followed by II’s swift exit from his seat, beginning to pace up and down. “You can’t do this! Not with those odds. We can remain cursed, it’s fine. I never minded it much anyway.”
His creator sighs, and you witness it in him, the summoning of his patience. “No, II. I will not allow the risk that hangs over you all, not with how half breeds are treated. You also deserve the freedom of a life unmarked by what my blood sullied you with. Not just for me, but for our beloved Grace.”
II thrusts a finger towards the door. “You mean to tell me you’d honestly gamble her tender little heart like this, on am eight out of ten chance that you’re going to your final death? You’d really do that to her? Because I am fucking telling you now, I’d do anything to protect her from that, anything!”
“Even lay down your life?”
“Of course!” II rages, before it hits him, the realisation smacking him with all the sharp intensity of a spiked bat.
Ves opens his arms wide. “And therein you see my devotion. That is how much I love her, and all of you.” He stands then, moving slowly to his first created, the vampire who means the world and beyond to him, pulling him into a hug. To be in his arms, even though it’s through someone else’s memories, brings you the tiniest shard of peace as you watch it playing out.
“I have lived for over fifty thousand years, II. If it is my time, then it is my time.”
II stands stiff, allowing the comfort of the hug, but pulling away as his eyes blink tears down his face, jaw setting in a hard clench. “You can’t. I won’t let you.”
He laughs, a soft burst from his nose. “You do not have dominion over me. Now, I command you not to tell the others. I will give you some time to adjust to it, but II, it will happen. I will not be swayed.”
“Please, Vessel.” His voice comes out as a strained hiss, but with eyes filling with tears, you see it clearly, feel it, the despair coiling tight beneath his ribs. “Please don’t do this. I am not the type to beg of anyone, but I am begging you now. Reconsider, for all our sakes.”
Ves stands back, touching a fond hand to his cheek before leaving the room, his departure a finality II is not willing to accept. The thought sticks in his brain as if it has grown spines, tumbling its way out of his skull, into his throat, through his chest and barbing itself to a halt in the pit of his guts.
Blinking, you find yourself back within your own consciousness, crying all over again. Not just for yourself, but for your beloved vampires. For Ves, having to keep it a secret for so very long, live under the burden of it, the constant shadow that the odds would be stacked against him, should he ever find an omega willing to bond. And for II, too, to be told, with no room to argue, that his creator would not be convinced otherwise in his decision.
Rising, you move through to the usual lounge, carrying on into the kitchen and standing at the back door, staring out into the sunshine. It has a fucking audacity, to be such a beautiful, spring day outside when within Norton House, the atmosphere remains so starkly bleak.
The birds carry on their song beyond the glass, utterly indifferent to your turmoil, to the weight of loss pressing into each room and heart of the house. After opening the door, you let the warmth of the light touch your skin as if it might sear away some of the sorrow, hoping that perhaps the warmth might reach you where you need it most.
You realise, though, as your cheeks are kissed by the cool April breeze, that the only warmth that will thaw the grieving chill that’s frosting around your heart is that of Ves’s love. His love in real time, not a memory of it.
You linger in that threshold between the old world and the new, acutely aware that everything has changed, but unwilling to accept a future without Ves in it. It sends pain surging through you that a fate of a life bearing his absence is the likely outcome here, that more vampires perish than survive the lifting of their curse.
Closing the door behind you, you are plagued by thirst, deciding to make yourself a tea. You’ve always been more of a coffee girl, but the comfort of smelling one of Ves’s favoured blends is needed. You choose the raspberry and nettle, busying yourself with the machinations, not quite boiling the water so as not to scorch the loose leaves, smelling it while it infuses in the cup, his cup, feeling a fraction less lonely for the scent of something that you always equate with his presence.
Seating yourself at the table, you let it cool, your thoughts all washing over you in a ceaseless tide, trying to imagine what it’ll mean for each of you going forward, a life lacking the vampire who binds you all together. Resting your head down for a second, you’re only aware of your consciousness faltering when you open your eyes again, feeling softness beneath your body.
“Hmm?” you hum sleepily, turning to see the body of III beside you on your bed.
“Found you about an hour ago at sundown,” he speaks, reaching to stroke your forehead with the tip of his little finger. “Guessed you probably hadn’t slept much.”
Sitting up, you stretch and yawn, resting back down again after shuffling a little closer to him. “I think about two hours this afternoon, and much less this morning after you and II had fallen asleep. Where is he?”
“In the bath,” he confirms. “I was gonna take you back to Ves’s room, but I didn’t know whether that might make you feel more upset, seeing him lying there, just... still.” His mouth twitches, turning onto his side. “It was with me.”
Not really knowing how you feel about that, you simply shuffle nearer to him, wrapping yourself around his lean form. “I don’t know.” You sigh, pausing, III holding you tight, his hand sweeping affectionately between your shoulder blades. “I don’t want to be far from him, not that anything will happen either way if I am. Like you, though, it’s hard to see him just lying there so still. So...”
He presses a kiss atop your head. “I know, sweetheart. I know.”
“I can’t even bear thinking it, that he isn’t coming back.” Your throat pinches with emotion, and III continues to offer comfort, his other hand moving to gently finger comb the hair at your scalp, and action he knows you always find soothing. “What do we do without him?”
“I dunno,” he confesses, his voice hollow at the prospect. “Carry on somehow? I don’t think we’re meant to have all the answers just yet. It's the fucking limbo of it that I can’t deal with. It’s gonna drag out a bloody month yet, a month! Thirty fucking days of not knowing either way.”
With a heavy sigh, you curl closer still, desperate for comfort in the aching hush, the shape of absence pressing into every corner of the room. There's a fragile hope buried beneath the grief that, somehow, the coming days might offer the smallest spark of reprieve, even if only found in the shared quiet between you and your remaining vampires.
At least you have two out of four to weather the agonising wait with.
“Would you mind going to crash II’s bathtime?” he asks softly, voice laced with cautious care. “I want to go for a walk, be on my own for a bit. Nothing against you, beautiful. I just need some time alone to process it all. Head’s a fucking screaming mess.”
“Of course, go on. It’s fine, I know you like to deal with your thoughts in your own space,” you speak, moving to climb off the bed, his gangly, tall form following. He seeks a kiss you offer immediately, a soft exchange that lingers upon your lips, makes a tiny spark of want flicker into life, but not brightly enough that it isn’t immediately extinguished by the black of grief.
“Love you.” he whispers, lips pressing a kiss against your head.
You return the sentiment, and in a blink he’s vanished, leaving you to head to the bathroom, opening the door and peeking around.
“Mind if I disturb your bathtime?”
II smiles weakly, jerking his head back. “Not at all. Get in here.”
Entering, you strip off and shut the door behind you, throwing your dress and undies into the laundry hamper for Fiona to find in the morning. II moves up the bath a little, leaving ample space between his legs for you to climb in and seat yourself, resting your head back against his wide chest.
“How’s my wife?”
You’ll never tire of hearing him call you that. “Sad.”
“Mm, I felt as much,” he confirms, “although it’s polite to ask.”
You can feel it in him, too, picking up on his mood and emotions through his blood. It’s a beautiful part of final bond, that link you have to one another, except for at times like this, when all parties are so clearly devastated.
Turning, you kiss his gritty cheek, hand moving to smooth the other as he tightens his arms around you. “I can feel the same in your, but also that you’re working your gorgeous little Scandi arse off to try and block it as much as you can.” He gives you a little eye roll, mildly unimpressed that you picked up on that. “You don’t have to hide how this has made you feel from me, II. I saw it earlier, in one of your memories. Ves telling you what was to happen.”
“Fucking blood link,” he fumes lightly, kissing your temple. “And of course I’m going to want to hide it from you, the depth of my devastation. I’m your fucking husband; it’s my job to protect you. From everything.”
Turning to him, you shake your head. “And I’m your wife. Your burdens are mine. We’re in this together, and that means I support you as much as you do me. I know that’s going to take you a lot of getting used to because you’re so fiercely proud of your strength, and you seldom allow people to witness you emotionally waver, but simply, suck it up, buttercup.”
His face further sours. “Stop crinkling your nose, Magnus.”
“Fucking hell,” he snorts, a smile beginning to spread. “You called me by my birth name. You must mean business.”
It’s a moment of levity when all around, your world feels so very bleak. Humming softly, you kiss his cheek again, resting back against him as you watch wisps of steam rising from the water. It offers a comforting cocoon of warmth.
“I do, you know I always do,” you chuckle, although the sound is a little hollow. His arms tighten around you in an instant.
A short silence falls over you, until II’s sudden words take you by surprise. “He told me that I had to step up and lead the family, raise III and IV like they were my own offspring, should the worst befall him. I wonder if I have the temperament for it, since their follies often leave me easily agitated.”
Stroking his forearm, you gather your thoughts together in offered reassurance at this, him offering vulnerability in his confession to you. “You’ll do just fine, love. Trust me, if you’re open to the idea of raising actual babies with me again, a couple of baby vampires will be no trouble for you at all. Besides, I see them improving with leaps and bounds compared to what they were almost eight months ago.”
“Eight months,” he scoffs, “it feels like I’ve known you for eight bloody years.” He pauses a second, his chest stiffening a little. “With Ves, it’s almost like I can’t remember a time where he wasn’t around. Of course, I carry my human life within my thoughts, but you know what I mean, don’t you?”
“I think so,” you confirm, kissing his forearm, your fingers chasing water droplets as you trace the intricate lines and dots of black tattoo ink. “You’ve never really told me about it, an in-depth account of when you first met him. I’d like to hear it one day.”
Right now might be too much for him to bear, so you do not expect it, for the words to then flow so easily from his mouth.
“I remember it well, almost as if it happened yesterday.”
Northern Jutland, 806AD...
The sun sank low into the frozen horizon, the breath of the warriors clouding the inky night as they made camp. Still two days from home, the men built fires the size of which could be seen from the home of their gods, a huge stag being cleaned and gutted after a successful hunt.
Triumph had run through the men just two days before, the territory of their leader, king Magnus the Bloody, defended from an oncoming army, their chieftain challenger slain upon the battlefield by the mighty ruler of Jutland himself.
It was, however, not without great personal sacrifice.
“Sigurd,” Frode spoke, coming to the side of Magnus’s right hand. “The king, is he...”
The tall man ceased his slicing into the hide of a freshly slaughtered deer, wiping the blood from his hands upon the dark hessian cloth of his trousers. “He hangs on, though I am yet to visit with him since we halted.”
Frode nodded, removing his own knife from its sheath. “You go and do that while I skin this stag. I was always the better.”
A knowing, mischievous smile is given, Sigurd laughing through his nose, cupping a big, weathered hand to his friend’s shoulder. “Just don’t butcher it as badly as you do your enemies.”
Moving over the frozen ground, the snow and ice thick beneath his boots, Sigurd entered the tent to find his liege lying as still as he’d left him when they made camp, skin pallid, sweat slicking his wheezing form. The fever was setting in, yet to remove the fur pelts covering him would be an exercise in accelerating his perishing.
Still, the warrior refused to accept this fate, that his beloved king would soon dine with the gods. An honour, surely, for Odin to send the Valkyries and pluck him from his death bed, for King Magnus to be raised into the halls of Valhalla where he rightly belonged. It still did not mean he wouldn’t miss the man he had come to love like a brother, until his own time came to join him.
“My king,” he spoke, lowering to a knee at his bedside. “How do you fare?”
Magnus turned his head, sickly yet still proud, even though he was days past being able to hide that the infection in the wound upon his side was slowly festering enough to kill. “I await it, for death to arrive here. I will see its face before I am taken in its clutches, to wherever I am destined. I can only hope that it is Odin who calls me home.” A small smile plays his lips. “It better not be Hel come to fetch me, although perhaps I might be deserving of Helheim. My death, after all, will be from battle. Not in it.”
“You are so resigned to it, Magnus,” he spoke with candour. “I sense you are ready.”
He would have liked to see his children again, this much was true, but Magnus did not shy from his destiny. He never once had upon that realm, and he wouldn’t now he was awaiting his transition into the next. At least, he thought with a smile through the pain and the stench of the festering wound at his side, he would finally be reunited with his beloved Ingrid.
How he had missed his queen, the mother of his children, his closest confidant. He had longed for her companionship, her touch, her wisdom, the way she so seamlessly blended her roles as wife and mother with her formidable force as a shieldmaiden.
Closing his eyes, he could see her, a smile tilting his lips as the moss green of her eyes, so luminous, glittered to him like beacons marking the path to the other side.
“I’m coming, my love,” he croaked, opening his eyes. There she was in all her radiance, his lost love, standing over the other side of his bed. “I’m coming home with you. Not long now. Wait... wait for me just a little longer.”
Sigurd looked on at him, deliriously muttering into an empty space, knowing it wouldn’t take long. Exiting the tent, he arrived with the rest of the men, his face drawn with the weight of his burden.
“The king, he is soon to join Odin.” He sighed, watching the others all grapple with the news separately, some looking to the skies as if imagining Magnus’s ascent to Valhalla, some more solemn in their reaction. “We are to wrap his body and bring him home with us upon the inevitable. His wound, it is too far gone to save him. I smell death in the air.”
His body would be committed to the water while blazing within a longship, as was customary for any important notable within their hierarchy. This notable, though, would never receive such revered a ritual over his remains. Not that his men knew this.
The creature who had unearthed himself from the ground upon the falling of dusk sat poised within the thick of trees near to the camp, waiting for a moment of quiet, for a pause between the king’s men going into the tent to check on him, make him as comfortable as they could while he languished.
Watching keenly, he waited for the last to leave the tent, knowing there would be a stretch of time long enough before his return, smelling the air as he jumped down from the tree. The stench of death was ripe, stronger now that it had been. He had to act fast.
Lying beneath the covering of warm pelts, Magnus shivered, the pain in his side excruciating. He could barely move other than to take sips of water offered to him, his entire body thrumming sharply, vision beginning to falter a little.
“Why, by all the gods, Odin, do you not send the Valkyries for me now?” he muttered weakly, groaning in pain. “My torment... and for what?”
Blinking a few times, he wondered if the tall figure who suddenly appeared within his tent truly stood there at all, Magnus squinting through the low light provided by the oil lamps.
“You... you are here for me,” he spoke, feeling it, the aura radiating from the young man before him, dressed not unlike he and his men, but looking so other worldly to the faltering king. He couldn’t quite put his finger upon why, though. He was, he recognised – and regardless of his steadfast appreciation solely towards women – a creature of consuming beauty. Truly, Magnus had never seen another quite like him, his radiance utterly ethereal.
He lifted his head all he could manage, watching him approach. “You are death, and I am ready.”
The man smiled, crouching his long, slender form at the side of the bed. “Some call me death, others life eternal. Then there are those who simply call me Vessel. I have watched you for years, Magnus, watched you ascend to the status of a king, of a man so great that death truly should not be the end for him.”
He coughed, reaching weakly to wipe the sweat from his brow before pointing at his mysterious visitor. “And yet here you are.”
“I am here for you,” Vessel spoke, reaching for the small, carved wooden bowl, wringing out the cloth within of the cool water it was soaking up, gently dabbing the king’s face with it as he took him in further. “But I bring to you no ending, only a brand-new beginning.”
“Yes, I understand that. In Valhalla. Or does the goddess Hel send you?”
He shook his head. “You are not yet destined for the great halls, or the baren lands of Helheim, king Magnus the Bloody. Not if you do not wish to be. What I can offer you, is as some refer to me as; life eternal. Walk with me in the shadows, in a different existence, one where death fears to touch us. Come with me, away from this, and I promise you great adventure and the cease of pain. I promise you strength unlike anything you have ever known. I promise you a world beyond what your eyes have ever seen before.”
Leave it all behind, or stay, tied to this enigmatic creature, a person Magnus was unsure of entirely, but saw clearly the depth of his sincerity.
“My people... my family... my kingdom,” he croaked, Vessel continuing to diligently mop his brow.
“They would be yours no longer.”
A disquieting thought, to a man who had built so much, to have it taken away. “And what would be mine?”
Vessel smiled, eyes glittering like sapphire shards through the dim light. “Me. You are mine, and I am yours. Kin, everlasting. I will be your father and brother merged into one, your greatest ally and loyalist, fiercest protector.” He hummed a chuckle, then, seeing the Viking in his mind’s eye, when he had forced his waking and hidden in the shadows, simply to watch him fight. “Not that you will need much protecting.”
He lay there in thought, as much as he could make sense of in his state, the appeal not lost upon him. Immortality, hmm. He could do much worse.
“Do you agree, Magnus? Will you pledge yourself, to walk under the moonlight with me?” He waited patiently, the king finally nodding. “Then receive the gift I give,” he began, fangs popping with a slick snap, “of life eternal.”
With the pain fading into the background, Magnus felt the world shift around him as Vessel leaned close, his hand cold as a northern wind as he grasped his jaw to tilt his head back. The moment the fangs pierced his skin, sharp yet gentle, Magnus shuddered, not from agony, but from a sensation so foreign it chased away every trace of fever and despair.
Time seemed to slow, and for a second, he regretted it. Confusion abounded, and he recognised his fear, afraid that he had invited this, this creature, to feed upon him, sucking his life source from the pulsing wound upon his neck. The air remained silent except for the quiet humming of his mysterious benefactor, and Magnus’s vision filled with spectral colours and the echo of his entire life flashing before his eyes.
As the transformation took hold, the last remnants of his mortal suffering slipped away, replaced by a powerful vitality pulsing through his veins. Pulling away, the creature bit into his own wrist, offering the wound to his mouth.
“Drink.”
Every action was on sense, impulse, Magnus knowing that the blood offered to his dried lips contained within it something special, an essence, the vitality that would tie his soul to the fibres of his flesh forevermore. And so, he drank, gulping the cold crimson that flowed onto his tongue, feeling a brilliance, a strength roaring fiercer than a billion warriors unafraid of death entering his veins.
Vessel pulled his wrist free, the wound closing over, Magnus’s eyes widening as he watched, sitting up properly for the first time in days. “Come now, my vampire. We must go to ground until the night is upon us again tomorrow.”
Without hesitation, he rose from the bed, taken hold of by his companion and removed from the world, the men he had presided over, transported rapidly into the thick of the forest. He didn’t remember much other than an overwhelming desire to rest, not until a full day had passed and moonlight became his new rising sun.
Vessel dug them out from the grave they shared, watching him, his first created, viewing the world around him for the first time as a creature of the night. The king opened his eyes anew, feeling the weight of centuries gathering at the edge of his consciousness, and realised he had crossed into an existence both wondrous and terrifying.
The journey had begun, and with Vessel at his side, Magnus would soon discover what it meant to walk immortal beneath the shadowed stars.
“How do you feel?” Vessel asked, watching him carefully.
He took it all in, every sound, every scent, his senses sharper than a thousand blades, the darkness more beautiful to him than he had ever imagined it could be.
“Powerful.” Turning to his creator, he smiled. “I will never stop thanking you for this gift.”
“And I never did,” II speaks, after detailing the entire story to you, tears slipping down his cheeks as you turn to him. “But now, I have to possibly imagine a life without him in it, and I think it’ll take me another thousand or so fucking years to overcome a fate so horrific, to walk this earth without the one who made me all that I am.”
As he breaks down, you move to straddle his thighs, pulling your beloved into your arms and letting him cry against your neck. Finally, your powerful Viking, your ancient love opens himself up to showing you vulnerability, and there isn’t a part of you that doesn’t wish you could ease even one drop of his pain in doing so.

“Ahh, Magnus! What a delight to see you again!”
II visibly stiffens at your side, pocketing his mask and gloves. “Joseph.”
His thaw? It doesn’t extend to everyone. Not even those he works with.
“When you told me you were bring a guest, I did not expect such a lovely young lady,” he states charmingly, extending his hand towards you. “Dr. Joseph Evans. A pleasure.”
“Grace White, nice to meet you,” you reply with a smile.
“Right, well then! I have some exciting news to share with you. The findings we discovered upon our most recent dig have been extraordinary, simply miraculous to have found such items from your age in the pristine conditions they were unearthed in.”
II looks at you with an eye roll as you both set off in the direction Joseph begins to walk. “He harped on about all this already over the phone. Your kind seem to thrive on unnecessary repetition.”
You shake your head, but eye him softly. “You’re such a grumpy old sod.”
“A title I wear with pride,” he grins, lifting his chin. “I’m nice to you, though, and that’s the important part.”
To hear it referred to by him as important only serves to bolster your confidence in the situation a little further, smiling, taking in your surroundings as the corridor stretches out before you. The space is so light and bright, almost overwhelmingly vast, your eyes picking out the artefacts on display, gasping at a few sights along the way before reaching a large door denoted as having no public access.
You’re led down a long, equally brilliant white corridor, the overhead lighting harsh in its fluorescence, Joseph using the keycard suspended around his neck on a lanyard to gain entry to the door you come to a stop outside of about halfway down.
Entering the room, it’s a large yet not as brightly lit space, the lighting a warmer white opposed to the unforgiving ones that have illuminated your path there so far.
“Now, I must ask that only you handle the pieces, Magnus. Usual drill.”
Joseph hands over a pair of latex gloves, pulling on a pair himself, too, also a mask that II obviously doesn’t need, given that he doesn’t breathe. “Here are the first of our finds, unearthed in West Jutland. See the incredible preservations here in the tools, the jewellery and the daggers?”
II leans over the large table with the high borders and boxed off compartments, a single artefact residing within each. He gestures to the bronze necklace, all but a few links still intact.
“May I?” Joseph nods, and he carefully lifts it, studying the details. “I knew who this belonged to.”
The curator’s eyes light up, levity dancing across his features. “You did? Oh, how remarkable! Please, do tell me about them, and if I may record your words as usual for my notes?”
“Fine, go ahead,” He pauses while Joseph locates his phone, finding the correct app and pressing record. “This belonged to Jarl Stigr. His lands stretched over the northwest of my kingdom, although he made frequent challenges to attain further standing and more men to swear their fealty to him. A bloody fearsome man and accomplished warrior, by all accounts. An excellent boat builder, too, which is where he began so humbly. When I first landed upon the shores of Northumbria, it was within a boat of his construction.
“His ambition and eventual unquenchable greed far outweighed his brainpower, though, unluckily for him. He attempted to relieve me of my crown, slaughter my sons and rape my wife in 797AD, so I buried him for it. Alive.”
You and Joseph exchange looks at the casual recanting of a fate so horrific, although you both know that with the former Viking king standing between you, nothing should come as a surprise. He wasn’t known for being particularly fair where punishing his enemies was concerned.
“I, I, have never heard of that method of dispatch amongst your people,” Joseph speaks, a nervous laugh rippling his voice.
“It wasn’t,” II confirms, placing the necklace down again. “I was creative in my methods. I believe the young people these days refer to it as a case of fuck around and find out.” He continues looking over the pieces, making observances here and there, Joseph and you alike fascinated by the history attached to them, brought to life by the vampire who lived within the time the jewellery was worn and the weapons wielded.
A few more tables are scanned, the items mostly holding little interest to II, until you reach the last but two. Upon it, sitting placed with great care, lies a browned, broken apart skeleton, the bones all lined up as they would appear should they still be attached, the preservation quite incredible.
“And this we found in an uppermost northern former settlement,” Joseph explains, “the young man we estimate to have been around twenty-two when he passed on, and...”
His words trail to nothing, watching the sight of II standing rigid, his eyes fixed upon the bones, his chest slowly beginning to rise and fall. The air suddenly seems too dense to breathe, the energy in the room thickening, an indescribable aura radiating from the vampire as he removes his gloves.
“Um, are you okay?” you ask, voice laced with ample caution, placing a hand to his arm. It’s almost like he isn’t there, his body frozen, II reaching out to gently rest his fingers either side of the skull.
“I must insist that you do not touch...” is as far as Joseph gets before his voice is drowned out.
“You will fucking insist nothing of me, human,” II roars at him, the sudden boom of his voice, his cadence much louder and more antagonised than you’ve ever heard. You stiffen with fear, although you know you aren’t in any danger from him, the hairs on the back of your neck standing up as your heart quickens its thuds.
His stare snaps back to the bones, his lip trembling, eyes brimming his tears. He swallows hard, a shuddered breath leaving his mouth.
“Finn.”
That single word pulls a gasp from your throat, your hands flying to cover your mouth, realising that the skeleton he’s standing above is that of his youngest son.
II’s body trembles with a grief so ancient it feels out of place in the sterile light of the museum, his fingers ghosting along the edge of the skull as if touch alone could restore what has been lost. Joseph hovers uncertainly, taking a few steps away, obviously uncomfortable and nervous in the face of such raw emotion, while you simply stand witness, heart pounding, unable to look away.
The silence is heavy, a reverent hush settling over the room, a father’s grief burning bright white. With eyes shining, his tears beginning to spill, II finally looks to you.
“I do not know how I know, but I know this is him. The only one of my children whose fate I could never trace,” he explains to you, his voice soft, whispery, fingertips still gently stroking over the bones that once made the structure of the boy he loved – loves – so very much.
He then looks to Joseph, and his expression darkens dangerously. “My son will not be put on display. You will return him to his resting place.”
“I’m afraid I cannot do that! I, I assisted in this dig, it is the highlight of my career to have found something so -”
What Joseph cannot do, he discovers, is add any further words, finding himself clasped around his neck and backed into the nearest wall at frighteningly rapid speed by an irate, red-eyed, growling vampire.
“It was not a fucking request,” II snarls, and you stand there caught between the desire to try and calm him down, and the very sensible stance of not intervening. “I am his father, and if I tell you to return his bones to his grave, then you will return them. If you do not, I will personally remove you of yours. Do you understand?”
Joseph trembles, nodding rapidly as he swallows hard. “Y-yes, Mag-Magnus. I will have his r-remains p-packed away once m-more and r-ret-returned to the dig site.”
He’s released in a nanosecond. "Good. From now on, I will only deal with Julia upon my visits. Make sure she is aware of this." He replies calmly, although within him you can see there’s a small hurricane of emotions still swirling around in his depths. Slowly, he walks around the table, leaning over to place a kiss to the skull, whispering something lovingly in Old Norse before in a blink, he’s vanished.
“I think that will be all tonight, Joseph,” you speak in his stead, efficiency taking over in a space you’ve felt a little superfluous to so far. “Please do see to Finn’s remains being carefully transported back to their resting place.”
Although still clearly shaken, he nods deeply. “I shall see to it personally. Please do extend my utmost in way of apology to Magnus. I hope his anger towards me shan’t be permanent.”
You scoff a little, eyes rounding a touch. “Yeah, um... we both it doesn't really work that way with him.” Nodding to his phone, you extend your hand. “I want that voice note deleted. I’ll do it.”
Mimicking the cold pragmatism vampires speak with, you hope a little of their authority will rub off. Maybe it’s that, maybe it’s the fact he’s been left so scared that you can see a dark patch upon the front of his trousers from a terrified accidental urination, but he hands it to you swiftly.
With the note and thus any evidence of a threat deleted, you hand it back to him, nodding before leaving the shellshocked looking curator and moving towards the door, letting yourself out quietly to walk back the way you came. Worry pools in your tummy, wondering what state you’ll find II in when you eventually do locate the erstwhile vampire, entering the large space at the front of the museum and looking around. It’s empty other than the displayed artefacts, the open spaces all leading off to the side containing within them no diminutive, angry undead either.
Until you turn to the last.
“It feels somewhat hypocritical, to stand and view the remains of someone’s sarcophagus when the sight of my son’s bones drove me to such rage,” he speaks, pointing into the large space containing the discoveries unearthed from ancient Egypt. “Further down there lies the mummy of a priest from the twenty-second dynasty. I wonder how Nesperennub’s father would feel to see his son’s remains displayed?”
You place your hand on his shoulder, thumb rubbing softly through the soft lambswool of his black sweater. “Probably exactly the same as you did. Except Nesperennub’s father is long gone, and you’re still here. Nobody could blame you for how you reacted to seeing Finn’s remains. It must have been a shock, even more so that somehow, you actually recognised them as his in the first place.”
“Didn’t know we could do that.” His jaw twitches, eyes closing for a few seconds. “I felt it, though. A deep tingle that told me intrinsically it was him. I saw his face as an infant; the beautiful little baby I would let sit on my chest and yank my beard while he laughed. I saw his smile, heard his little squeaks of joy when I would pull faces at him, saw him then the last time I ever did when he was six, tending to our goats. He always loved animals. I wanted so much for him, and he died at just twenty-two years old. There is no comfort in that.”
You have no idea how to offer him succour, not knowing truly if such would be welcome anyway, with II being the vampire he is. You are determined to at least try, though.
“Who’s to say that he didn’t have contentment, before he passed so soon? As his dad, you of course wanted the world for him, probably at a guess for him to find the fame you did, too. He could have found it, but it’s fucking cruel for it to have been snatched from him so soon.”
He nods, the sound of footsteps coming from behind, his head turning sharply, growling low to see Joseph approaching with much caution.
“I do not wish to intrude, Magnus, and I do extend my deepest apologies to you. I merely wanted to state that the museum will remain open for as long as you and your lady friend wish to stay,” he speaks, carefully remaining a few feet away.
II nods, looking conflicted for a moment, indecisive over what he should speak. It’s more emotion than you’ve ever seen from him playing across his face, deep lines forming across his forehead as he turns.
“What else did you find within the dig, Joseph?”
The curator looks a little startled by that, and to be honest it was the last thing you were expecting him to ask, and so cordially, too. His need to find answers over his son’s life perhaps overtakes the deep-rooted depth of his rage, though.
“Well, what we found leaned to the theory that the settlement uncovered was once a farming community. The tools and plentiful animal bones, mainly of goats and sheep, discovered alluded to such. We also found a cross upon his person, so it is clear that your son was a convert to the Christian faith, and this makes sense in that he was buried rather than his remains being treated in the more standard Viking practices of the time.
“There were also remains of a woman found beside his, though we estimate her to have been in her fifties when she passed. At a wild guess I would say these were perhaps those of his wife. They seemed to live a nice life as farmers, quiet, unbothered by the trials and tribulations your people often faced in way of conquest. The immaculate condition of the skeleton does go a way in pointing to such. No breaks, no weapon strikes. At a hazarded guess, I would say perhaps illness took him.”
II processes his words, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. “As I stated just now to Grace, he always did love animals. It makes sense to me, that he would see the trials that befell me, the constant ebb and flow of challenges against my reign, so therefore perhaps seek out a quieter existence.” He pauses a second. “You have her bones, too?”
Joseph nods. “Yes, and they shall be returned with Finn’s, Magnus. I will even arrange with the Danish archaeologists to mark the land as a burial site and therefore leave it further undisturbed.”
“Thank you.”
The curator looks a lot less frightened than he did just minutes ago. “You are most welcome. I will make the arrangements first thing tomorrow morning.” He then reaches forward towards you, offering his hand. “It was lovely to meet you, Grace.”
You shake it, the tension in your shoulders unknotting, Joseph nodding respectfully one more time at II before turning to leave.
“A goat farmer,” he speaks, absorbing the information. “While it wouldn’t have made me content, I have to respect that it probably did give Finn a slice of happiness while he was still here. And he married, too.” He straightens then, turning to you, leaning down to place a kiss upon your cheek. “I need a distraction. Let’s begin our tour, hm?”
You expected him to tell you he wanted to leave, but you see the merit in his plan. Also, you’re learning that with II, he’s considerate of those around him who he actually enjoys the company of, Ves’s words about his loyalty also ringing in your head. He promised you a tour, and he’s keeping to his word.
Moving into the space, you marvel at the pristine exhibits on display, both reading the little blocks of text mounted beside each piece.
“Grace, come and see this.”
Turning, you head to the back of the room, your mouth falling open. “Oh my god! It’s absolutely stunning!”
“He was a great ruler, Ramesses II,” he begins, as you both study the colossal granite statue. “Reigned for sixty-seven years, such a lifespan a rarity when the mortality rate was as high as it was back in those days. Most ancient Egyptians were unlikely to live past forty.”
You continue, marvelling at the artefacts before moving on to the paintings section. There, works hang in stunningly detailed frames, their beauty suspended in the grandeur such pieces deserve.
“Our Rembrandt used to be just here,” II observes, pointing to the space now occupied by a Monet. “Ves loaned it to them for a few years before taking it back again, so he could enjoy it. Loves his art, my creator. It’s a shame he didn’t want to come today. I did ask him.”
A little cold wave laps against your tummy, your eyes flitting to II. “I think that’s because I’m here, and he apparently can’t trust himself around me at the moment.”
“Yeah, he told me that he buckled and kissed you.” It takes you by surprise for a moment, that Ves confessed it so openly when things are... tricky, to put it mildly. “He’s trying to do his best by you, you know. We all are, in our different ways. Except for IV, who I think would prefer all of this not to be happening at all.”
“He’d prefer to remain cursed, then?” you ask, both of you moving on to the next painting, another beautiful offering by Claude Monet.
Looking from the painting to you, he cocks his head to the side a little. “I never know with him. He doesn’t speak it aloud, but I would say so. He enjoys being venomous.”
You can only imagine for then. However, at 3am the following morning after arriving back at Norton House, you find yourself seeing it in the flesh. Well, you hear it firstly.
Climbing from the car, the front door opens, III emerging, moving in a flash to greet you with a big kiss.
“Hello, sweetheart.” He then looks over the car to II. “We’ve ah, got a situation inside.”
“Haven't been shattering spines again, have you?” he asks. Yeah, you heard about that, making III promise he would never be so rough with you that you ended up with broken bones.
A snort sounds. “Fuck off!” he bristles. “Why’d you always fucking assume it’s me, eh?”
Taking your bag from the boot, II shuts it, locking the car. “Because it usually is.”
“Well, this time it isn’t!” he reveals with a certain degree of smug triumph, folding his arms and lifting his chin. Just then, a crash echoes from inside the home. Then a bang. Then a yell.
“Fucking calm down!”
You’ve never heard Ves shout like that before. “What’s up with IV?” II questions, looking around III towards the door.
“Aiko cheated on him.”
Immediately, your mouth drops open, face falling in sheer disbelief. “No!”
“Yes.”
“Bloody hell,” II chimes, although he doesn’t look too moved. “Any idea why? She always seemed so besotted with him.”
III snorts. “Innit? Except she’d been seeing some other bloke on the sly, ended up getting pregnant by him, too. He then chucked her, she had a termination and confessed all to IV, hoping they could overcome it. Needless to say, he couldn’t.”
Your mouth falls even wider. Because unless it’s the whole procreation advantage of the living, you have no fucking idea why anyone in their right mind would look elsewhere for a sexual connection nowhere near as thrilling as that given by the undead. That and they’d been together for such a long time, too.
“He must be absolutely crushed,” you comment, III widening his eyes.
“Try enraged. Ves is currently having to force his blood into him to stop him going and finding the guy. You can imagine the fate that’d await him.”
“Mm,” II hums. “I expected that kind of reaction. Is Aiko alright?”
“Fled her flat at Ves’s advice. He gave her a fucking massive wedge of cash to return home, warned her not to turn up here again, or she’d never leave.” That sinister threat ladders a chill up your spine. Indeed, one can truly never forget what they are, and it would be the last thing Aiko knew before the committal of her body somewhere deep within the grounds of Norton House. “Anyway, I’m making snacky snacks! Grace, how’d you fancy cheese on toast with maple syrup?”
You’ve been offered worse. “I could eat."
II snorts. “You and your foul concoctions.”
“It’s bloody good!” III enthuses, taking your hand and leading you inside. As soon as you enter the lounge, you receive a torrent.
“Get that thing out of the fucking house!” IV bellows, looking like he’s attempting to fight his way off the sofa. That’ll be tricky, as you assume Ves has been successful in a blood offering, meaning he’s likely been commanded not to move. “I don’t want to be around humans! Not now, not fucking ever again!”
“IV, you will manage your emotions,” Ves speaks, his offspring rooted to the seat, but snarling in your direction, eyes bled bright red. “Grace remains a welcome guest in our home.”
The fact that he doesn’t let his eyes fall upon you even once negates his words there, and it hits you like a lightning bolt, that this is the first time you’ve seen him since both the impromptu kiss and III’s revelation that he thinks his creator is falling for you. You try to look anywhere other than his direction, but such a commanding presence is not easy to shy a gaze away from.
“I’m retiring to the library,” II speaks, his words slicing through the various degrees of differing tension, reaching to squeeze your wrist. You’re feeling more surprised at every moment that passes, with the genuine affection he displays. He really, really is trying for you. “Thanks for tonight. Meant a lot to have you there, probably counted for me not deciding to kill Joseph, too.”
Ves’s eyes snap to him. “What did the curator do to warrant that?”
“Dug up remains that turned out to be Finn’s, and wanted to display them.”
He actually winces a little, an expression you don’t see him wear often. “Fuck. Are you okay?”
“Fine,” he vouches with an air of finality. “They're being returned to the dig site, as I instructed.”
He vanishes, you and III moving into the kitchen, him beginning his assembly of the aforementioned cheese on toast with maple syrup while you take a seat.
“Are you staying tonight?” he questions, rapidly grating up about half a block of cheese.
You’d planned to go straight home after quickly popping in to say hello to him, in all honesty. “Is that your way of asking whether I’ll be staying with you?”
He turns to you with a grin, leaning in to give you a kiss, the kind that makes your thighs judder instantly. “Maybe.” A second kiss and your pulse begins to race. “Maybe this cheese on toast isn’t the only thing I want to eat before the sun comes up.”
You giggle against his lips, hands moving inside his t shirt, running your nails over his abs a few times. “I like where this is heading.”
Another kiss, and this time it’s absolutely blazing. “Thought you might.”
“Don’t fucking trust her, III!” the voice of IV comes from the lounge. “They’re all fucking cunts, her included, I bet. Good for feeding on and that’s fucking it!”
He frowns, moving to the door to poke his head around it. “Call her a cunt again and I’ll snap you. It’s Aiko who did you dirty, not Grace,” he warns.
“III, leave him to me,” Ves speaks. “I will sit with him until he calms down and remembers what will and will not be tolerated coming from his mouth.”
The kitchen door is swung shut, III muttering something about IV needing to wind his neck in, moving to switch the grill on.
“He’s upset, I get it,” you speak, although you’re unsure why you’re standing up for a vampire who loathes you. And who just called you a cunt. Bigger person and all that, you suppose.
III curls his lip slightly, opening the cupboard and peering in. “Still shouldn’t fucking do it when he doesn’t know you at all.” He appears contemplative for a moment. “I’m unsure that maple syrup is going to cut my craving, y’know. I want spicy sweet, really.”
Ahh, you can show him your new favourite flavour profile. “You’ve got honey, haven’t you?”
He begins poking around in the cupboard, which is mostly overtaken by the vast collection of loose-leaf jars of tea belonging to his creator. “Mm, somewhere.”
Standing, you move to the fridge, pulling out the bottle of chili sauce that’s ever present within the door, next to the chilled blood. You used to find it off-putting, but now it seems a totally standard find within. II orders it in, save him having to deal with people too much in order to procure a feed. He’s lucky in so much that the older the vampire, the less blood they require.
“Here.” Passing it to him, he looks between the Chula hot sauce and the jar of honey he’s located a few times, frowning. “What, you and your love of concoctions have never tried this before? It’s the new thing, hot honey flavour profiles.”
“I haven’t,” he states, taking the bottle from you, “but I think I’m going to like it.”
Four slices of toast for him and two for you later, and it’s fair to say he does. “I fucking enjoyed the hell out of that!” he speaks, putting the plates in the sink and giving them a very rapid rinse while you sip the glass of wine he fetched for you, attempting to stifle what turns into a massive yawn. “Tired, sweetheart?”
“Yeah, it just crept up on me,” you confess.
He looks a little deflated at that. “Probably not gonna be up for me bouncing you around on this for a while, eh?”
He’s so cute, so sweet with you of late, but nope. The pervert in him, currently grabbing a handful of his ample crotch, will never disappear. “Didn’t say that, did I?”
You find yourself bundled over his shoulder in an instant, laughing, those giggles turning to squeals when he smacks your bum, bending to pick up your bag on the way to the cellar.
While you’re set upon by a very horny vampire, the two in the lounge remain within the parameters of creator and offspring, Ves showing unwavering patience while IV descends into mental chaos. At least now he’s starting to quieten, after the smashing up of his bedroom has come to cease. That’s less to do with his mood evening out and more leaning to the fact he’s been commanded.
“If you’re waiting for me to pour my soul out, you’ll be waiting a fucking long time,” the younger grits, Ves remaining completely passive. He’s seen it too many times before for it to have an effect on him.
Steepling his fingers, he leans back in the armchair, his quiet composure somewhere between menacing and settling. Nobody works juxtapose like the ancient alphas. “You perhaps would feel unburdened if you did.”
IV scoffs, his mouth forming a shape that’s part pout, part snarl. “Same thing time after time with me, isn’t it? Humans fuck me over, find a new fucking way to make me suffer! Thought it had ended with Aiko, but no! Gave her the fucking world, trusted her, and she does this fucking bullshit to me, don’t she?” Despite his statement, he settles into a rhythm of ranting, his creator giving him the silence necessary to let off that steam.
“Always the way with ‘em, isn’t it? Nah, never again. I’m sticking to my own kind, ain’t even gonna go feed on ‘em directly. I’ll just order in blood like II does. Can’t stand this shit anymore, Ves. I shouldn’t have ever trusted her!” His finger then points in the direction of the kitchen, shaking with ire. “And that redheaded bitch down there? You can fucking forget it, me bonding with her. Fuck that, I’d rather stay cursed.”
Ves contemplates his reply for a few seconds before speaking, his tone quiet and measured. “Then we all stay cursed, IV. You know that. Now, this is not about Grace, so let’s leave that where it is for the moment. You have suffered a great emotional upheaval, and you need time to move past it. Same as anyone. Luckily for us vampires, we of course can move on emotionally with more rapidity than humans. It will be the same for you, too. In time.”
His words are met with soft muttering, IV folding his arms tightly, still clearly agitated by hearing such platitudes. He wants to hear his own opinions reflected back at him, share in the notion that humans are awful beings not to be trusted. He should have known he’d never received such in the way of acquiescing from his creator.
“That’s all you’re bothered about though, isn’t it? Me getting over it so you can couple me with her down there.” Another angry pointed finger is waved in the direction of the kitchen, his eyes narrowing. “Ain’t happening.”
The hot headedness of baby vampires. He’s of course well versed in how to negotiate with their often-volatile dispositions. Leaving the air between them silent, he notes to himself how that since your arrival almost a month prior, III had settled down considerably. IV, however, will be an entirely different story.
“What I’m bothered about is you allowing your past to haunt you,” he begins, leaning forward slowly. “What happened to you prior to our meet is not linked to Aiko’s deceit. While you’re the common denominator, it does not mean that you’re somehow predisposed to be continually treated poorly by humans. It’s simply bad luck that it happened again.” He pauses a second, eyes fixed upon him. “If you continue to let their actions interfere with you, they’ve won. I told you that then, and I’m telling you again now.”
“Easy for you to say,” he mutters, “you’ve never had anyone fuck you over like that.”
He sighs, closing his eyes a moment. “I’m a little different, IV. People do not tend to fuck with alphas if they know what’s good for them. I shan’t pretend to know your pain, but I also will not sit idly and allow you to let it eat away at you again. You made progress by allowing Aiko to become close with you. Do not let your efforts now count for nothing.”
“Can you release me from your command, please?” he asks, body seeming to relax a little more, although Ves remains unsure whether any of his sage advice has truly been taken onboard. “I ain’t about to go off rampaging. Sorry I did before, that was a dickhead move on my part.”
His creator stands, slowly moving to him, a finger tapping the centre of his forehead. “Released.” He remains hovering as IV stands, Ves taking his head in his hands and kissing the same spot his finger touched against. “Just know that in a world of uncertainty, your family loves you.”
IV nods, moving at speed from the space, back to his room to begin cleaning up the mess he left. Many items will need to be replaced, his stereo and speakers, his guitar, a few skateboards and the TV all lying in various degrees of smithereens. His hands reach to the shredded clothes, lifting them, unable to resist the urge to bring them to his nose.
The last remaining traces of her scent fill his sinuses, and his eyes brim with tears. “You fucking bitch,” he sobs, throat tightening, his fists clenching around the soft fabric of her torn apart t shirt. “Fucking made me trust you, made me love you, all for nothing!”
His anger burns white-hot, and he takes a moment, releasing the t shirt as his jaw tightens, pressing down the urge to make a further mess. Instead, he moves with speed around the room, piling up everything that’s broken, zooming quickly to the kitchen and locating the roll of refuse sacks, returning to place the smashed-up pieces of his belongings within them. Taking them to the front of the house, he throws them into the bin, returning to his room to grab a box containing hundreds of photographs.
Armed with a lighter, he moves to the back door, locating an old stone plant pot and ripping the nestled entanglement of weeds from it, upending it to empty out the soil. Taking a seat on the floor between the doorway and the cold slabs, he lifts the first photograph from the pile. He swallows hard, tears trickling down his cheeks, realising it’s the very first picture he and Aiko took together.
Even though he’d met her as a kid of sixteen, he often felt like she was the more adult-like of the two, her emotional maturity very deep-seeded. She’d grounded him, comforted him, being the stronger of the two in many instances. Her patience with him, her wisdom for such tender years had helped him deal with the burdens of his past, her love showing him that not all humans were hardwired to hurt, should he be brave enough to let one close enough to his heart again.
With a flick of the lighter in his hand, the picture goes up in flames, IV watching the image of him standing with his arm around her, Aiko pressing a kiss just beneath his jaw, curl and bubble. The flames destroy their likenesses, burning away, the next photo following.
Each one he drops to the amber flames evokes a separate memory to play in his mind, painful barbs striking his insides, particularly when he sees one of her taken on the night she’d lost her virginity to him. There, on the black and red swathes of his bed, she’d bloomed from girl to woman beneath him, and he’d loved her all night long, entwining on a level that ran far deeper than sexual vanquish.
The pictures flutter from his grasp as the loneliness pinches hard at his insides, drying his eyes on his sleeve, not that it prevents further tears from falling.
“How could you have been my fucking everything, only to end up my nothing?” he whispers, more photographs passing through his hands, torn into pieces, added to the pot before him. The flames lick against the sides, the photographs fuelling their ascension, IV closing his eyes tightly. “Could have come to me if you were really that unhappy, talked to me about it, but nah. Just went and fucking opened your legs for some other equally shitty human.”
They echo the words he screamed at her earlier that night, words that now hold little significance. She’s gone, likely awaiting a flight to take her home again if she has any sense in heeding Ves’s warning. It hangs heavy within him, the urge to both never see her again, or find her and fling his arms around her, beg her not to leave.
His shattered trust, broken like a rock hitting a mirror, lies so splintered within him that he never would seek her out again, though, despite the pitifully painful yearnings of his broken heart. An existence without her in it feels too heavy, too torturous for him to contemplate, his eyes picking out the light gathering upon the periphery of dusk as he continues burning away all evidence of his love for the woman who wronged him.
Burning away... a tempting prospect, a permanent cease to the pain that continues to poison his insides, caustically washing over him in waves that drown him, drag him to the depths of darkness, again and again.
They will never cease, either. The cycle of his torture he realises will haunt him endlessly. Yet another torment has been heaped upon him, pressing down, the infrastructure of his emotional footings already bearing too much. This compounded has him at the cusp of breaking, IV moving to the fridge and pulling out the remaining large bottle of blood, sinking it in rapid gulps. He wants to remain awake for it, feel it consume him, the dawn rapidly creeping up over the horizon as he resumes his seated position.
As the light expands, the first sunrise he’s witnessed after fifty-three years of darkness, he pulls off the hoodie he’s wearing, looking down at his tattooed skin for the last time, watching as smoke begins to rise from the etchings. The beauty of witnessing the world slowly fill with light takes away the pain, knowing it’ll be over soon, a peace he has sought for so long settling in his bones, flames slowly beginning to burst over his skin.
Well, they do until you emerge from the basement, wrapped in a blanket, your eyes widening in horror to witness his suicide attempt. Without thinking for your own safety, you run to him, smothering his body in the blanket and hauling him across the floor, your hand reaching to yank the door shut.
“What the fuck are you doing?” he roars, thrashing through the swathes of black fleece, emerging with his eyes reddened and his fangs bared.
“Fucking saving you from that!” you cry, a pointed finger thrusted in the direction of the rapidly rising sun. “Jesus fucking Christ! Do you know what it would do to your family, to have found your scorched remains upon the kitchen floor?”
He ignores your words, standing, growling a low, deadly rattle in the back of his throat as he eyes you with a terrifying gaze. “And if you get in my way again, you should know what I’ll fucking do to you, human.”
His body moves rapidly towards the door, and against all better judgement, you don’t make way for him, hauling yourself in front of him and the barrier between the sunlight, fighting against his determination. The strength within him is too great, though, your hand hanging onto the handle, panic rising as you desperately try to think of a way you can overpower the strength you cannot possibly fight against.
Calling for the others is futile; the dawn IV is attempting to kill himself within having sent them to sleep already. It’s just you.
He throws you to the side, and your body hits the counter, something metallic clattering onto the draining board behind you. It’s a grim prospect, but the only way, you realise. Reaching for the knife and with a deep breath, you open your wrist as he grasps the door handle and pulls it open. With your blood pouring out, you dash to where he’s smouldering once again, diving onto his back and pressing the gushing wound against his mouth.
You’re lucky that vampires, no matter their feelings towards humans, have a very, very hard time in resisting the fresh source of free-flowing blood, forcing the wound to his mouth as your legs clutch on around him, finally feeling the pull of his lips drinking. He staggers back, feeding from you greedily as parts of him catch into flame again, and you reach with your other hand to slam the door shut, IV collapsing to the floor and taking you with him.
You didn’t want to have to force him into taking your blood, but it was the only way to prevent it, to make the bond connect and thus alter his thoughts, sway him into submission. Pulling your wrist from his mouth, he grasps it again, slicing his tongue on a fang and healing you, the scorches within his skin all rapidly beginning to heal.
He stares at you for a long moment, eyes eventually fading out to blue, shaking his head as his tears start to slowly trickle down his cheeks. “Fucking can’t even kill myself properly,” he sniffs, “and you’re a bitch for forcing me not to, putting your fucking blood in me and making me bond, you fucking arsehole!”
“Fucking arsehole who doesn’t want to see you dead,” you reply softly, “surely that counts for something, right? In a world you consider to be filled with humans who don’t care for you, one who you’ve shown nothing but contempt for cared enough to stop you.”
He knows, deep down, that you’re right. Your actions have proven him wrong, even if his mind resists the truth in this moment. Consumed by emotional turmoil, all he can manage is to lower his head into his hands, silent tears slipping through his fingers.
The room is a wreck, blood drips and ashes scattered across the floor, the physical remnants of his pain and anger echoing the disarray within him. Without hesitation, you cross the space, gently settling yourself astride his thighs. You gather him into your arms, holding him close, offering a quiet strength and solace in the midst of chaos.
“Shhh, it’s okay,” you soothe, stroking his back as he shakes with the force of his sobs, your arms tightening around him. “I’ve got you, IV. I’ve got you.”
For then, at least, he allows your nearness, basking in this strange affection. His own arms finally tighten around you as he submits to the power of your blood, letting himself experience the comfort he was prepared to forsake for the eternal peace of a deadly, breaking dawn.

Alpha & Omega: Bloodlines - A Vampires!Sleep Token/Reader Story.
Good morning, besties! Here we are, then, the first chapter of the sequel all ready and waiting for you to dive into. I'm having the best time continuing to write for these characters who have grown so special to me, and I can only hope you all enjoy the continuation of the story just as much :)
Summary: A year has passed since the events that left your newly formed family shattered, the four of you continuing to move ahead with your lives as best you can. The introduction of new equal rights laws for vampires across the United Kingdom marks a significant turning point, offering hope and the promise of greater acceptance. With these changes, you and II feel empowered to finally take the next step towards expanding your family, beginning to plan for the arrival of a child.
However, the journey towards this new chapter is not without its uncertainties. A new friend, with the best of intentions, offers some advice that despite your judgement, lingers in the back of your mind. Regardless of the strength of your bond and the depth of your commitment, you find yourself questioning whether these concerns hold any merit.
Your trust in the resilience of your marriage remains steadfast, and you dismiss the warning as unfounded. Yet, as time unfolds, those doubts prove harder to ignore. It is only when envy emerges unexpectedly - affecting one of the vampires you hold dear - that the true challenge reveals itself, threatening the peace and unity you have worked so hard to build.

Ginraku. The establishment located in the heart of Tokyo is notoriously one of the most prestigious within the city, its clientele so exclusive, one simply cannot call to make a reservation. No, at Ginraku, the only way to secure a table is by invite from the owner, one of the oldest, most respected vampires residing within the city.
Luckily for you, Nene Ishida has become a close friend since your move out there, so the best table within her own private section and a warm welcome are always guaranteed for you and your family. Tonight, though, it’s just you and Nene dining within the exclusive walls, the car she sent for you smoothly arriving outside, where you are met by the host.
“Mrs. Danielsson-White,” Akiro greets you with, extending his hand to help you from the back of the black Mercedes. “A pleasure to see, you as always. Ms. Ishida is eagerly awaiting your arrival.”
“It’s lovely to see you again too, Akiro. Thank you.” you reply politely, your eyes taking in the beautiful frontage of the restaurant. Cherry blossoms entwine romantically around the entrance, the pink tinted glass matching beautifully with the sumptuous, deep pink, gold and mahogany of the interior.
The lights provide the perfect ambiance for diners to see every course of their exorbitantly priced meal without being too bright and garish, the overhead lights diffusing a soft glow that compliments the many pleasantly scented candles adorning the space. You are led through the lower section, wait staff politely standing aside and nodding in welcoming as you pass, following Akiro up the wide staircase that leads to the private dining booths which overlook the main floor.
“My lovie!” Ahh, there she is, perhaps the sweetest vampire you’ve ever met, aside from the ones you’re married to. “You look divine, Grace. And this dress! McQueen?”
Taking her extended hands, you lean to kiss her cheek. “Your eye is impeccable, as always.”
“Fabulous, fabulous.” Swishing her waist length curtain of shiny, glass-like black hair over her shoulder, she extends an elegantly manicured hand towards the plush seat opposite her side of the table, Akiro hovering to take your drinks order. “It’s good to see you finally enjoying your husband’s money. Ves did bemoan to me back when we first met that he wished you’d spend more of it.” She then looks to Akiro. “A bottle of Armand de Brignac Rose, and the same blood equivalent for me, please.”
Two-thousand-pound dresses and near five-hundred-pound bottles of champagne with your girlfriend over dinner; you still feel your head spin, that this life of utter luxury is now the norm for you. Although you still feel a little uncomfortable with your newfound wealth at times, you stopped complaining and refusing it after Ves explicitly stated that in doing so denied his joy in spoiling you rotten. II and III also echoed much the same, neither of them being particularly lacking in the financial stakes, either.
“Now, how was Wyoming?”
You spent two months out there recently at the ranch, your travels away from home leading you far from Little Norton, a place you haven’t been back to for almost a year now. It’s still somewhat unfathomable to you, that your vampires have been in your life for eighteen months. Sometimes it feels much longer, other times, like only yesterday when Ves appeared out of thin air and almost scared you half to death, speaking the one word that changed your life forever.
Omega.
“It was lovely,” you begin, Nene cocking her head, ready to listen. That’s something about her you truly adore, her ability to happily let others speak. “II even got me up on his horse and gave me a few lessons. He thinks I did well, but it was mostly River making me look good. She was so well behaved, such a gentle giant.”
Nene snorts a soft laugh, her eyes crinkling. “Now see, not to insult your husband, because goodness knows I do enough of that to his face over his diminutive stature, but I’d have thought him better suited to a pony.”
You shake your head at her teasing, closing your eyes, Nene’s sparkly, raucous laughter filling the space. “You know II, though. He’d never opt for something more in suiting to his height. Trust me, River looks like the kind of steed you could ride into war aboard. She’s gigantic!”
Indeed, the sheer size of the 17.2hh dappled grey mare scared the hell out of you when you first visited her, II instructing one of the ranch hands to let her out of her stable when she saw him approach from the other end of the barn, the horse kicking her stable door impatiently and whickering with excitement to see him again. Witnessing how soft she was with him, though, nuzzling his face and gently mouthing his hair and hands swiftly filled you with reassurance over her gentleness.
“Show me pictures!” At her request, you retrieve your phone from your bag, quickly making sure there’s nothing X-rated in your album that you’re yet to move to the private folder designated for such, scrolling through the images of you sitting aboard River. “Look at you! You don’t look like a novice up on her back at all, and the outfit? Fabulous, fabulous!”
If there is one thing Nene thrives upon, it’s fashion. With her zest for life and youthful exuberance, you sometimes struggle with the fact that she’s almost five thousand, two hundred years old. Then again, it regularly hits you like a wrecking ball when you remember the age of your eldest husband. Especially when he relaxes his usual demeanour of a quintessentially poised gentleman and allows for silliness.
Naked games of drunken - or in his case, high on magic mushroom blood - chase around the quad garden while you both scream with laughter? He’s down.
Your conversation continues as your first course is brought out, and you relish in the fact that Nene differs from most other vampires into their thousands in so much that she still enjoys food greatly, meaning you don’t have to eat alone. ‘Eating all of this deliciousness and not worrying about gaining weight? I am here for this, lovie!’ is how she first met your surprise at her love for good cuisine.
Then again, she’d never let it be said that she doesn’t also enjoy such junk food snacks as Pop Tarts while reading a copy of Vogue from cover to cover, one of her little quirks that her husband, a vampire by the name of Lazarus finds adorable about her. Speaking of her spouse...
“So, how’s Laz?”
“As you delightful British would say, a grumpy old git at present,” she reveals, which you quietly have no trouble believing, the vampire prone to moodiness at times and steadfastly aloof with those he doesn’t know well. It’s only been quite recently he’s warmed to you, for example, but this isn’t anything you aren’t used to. You’re married to II, after all, and how that began is in stark contrast to how it’s ended up.
Making an inquiring face, Nene takes it as her cue to continue. “He’s had a deal go sour, so is now stuck with a particularly niche piece and no buyer for it. Storming around the house, making clattering noises with the dinnerware,” she exclaims, lifting her plate and giving it a brisk tap on the table to demonstrate, “and generally being a surly pain in my ass. I don’t suppose Ves is in the market for a ninth century tapestry depicting a scene from the Karma Sutra, is he?”
Your husband enjoys a little pornographic art as much as the next red-bloodied vampire, but you doubt whether this would be a piece he could be interested in adding to his collection. “I can ask, but it isn’t really his style.”
“III?” she then proposes hopefully.
“Hmm, sculptures are more his thing. If he were to ever have a tapestry of people engaging in sex hanging anywhere, he’d want them to be modelled on us. Such is the slight air of vanity in him. He knows how gorgeous he looks naked.”
Nene shrugs casually. “I can unpick stitching and redo.”
Her words have you tipping your head back, clapping your hands together softly in mirth. “You make me laugh so much!”
“Good!” she enthuses with a little wave of her finger. “This is what good girlfriends are for!” She then leans in close. “Even better ones persuade one of their three husbands to buy the artwork said friend is desperately trying to unload, save her having to deal with her own miserable husband for any longer than necessary!”
“I notice how you don’t ask if II would be interested?” you speak, a little tease in your tone.
Nene's eyes widen. “If it were something suitably gory, a battle scene depicted, he’d be at the top of my list, lovie. Your husband is not particularly vociferous regarding pleasures of the flesh, though, is he?”
Her observance is steeped in truth. II is never outspoken when it comes to matters of sex, especially in public conversation, nor does he seek to express his passions through the display of erotic art. This aversion to overt displays belies a very different side to him, one reserved exclusively for moments behind closed doors. In private, II reveals his true artistry, not with paint or canvases, but with heated, invisible strokes upon your skin.
Those works of art he creates with you are always felt, rather than seen. Well, apart from the occasional fang brand left behind in secretive places.
The conversation moves away from art, Nene asking you your feelings over a topic receiving much attention in the way of societal debate at the moment.
“Now, I have to ask you, of course I do, but what are your thoughts on the news coming from the United Kingdom at present? Pleased, I should imagine!”
Politely finishing your mouthful of yellowtail tuna sashimi, you sip your champagne, your eyes widening. “I can’t bloody believe it, to be honest. I mean yes, it’s brilliant for us, for all vampires, but still! It was the last thing I was expecting! The fallout from it though has been fucking horrific, and made me glad we’re currently over here, to be fair.”
The news you speak of is the recent – and very unexpected – overhaul of laws and legislations regarding vampire rights within the United Kingdom, a decision that the Prime Minister worked tirelessly and very closely with the World Vampire Association in order to have come to fruition.
Like many politicians, his motivation was not solely borne out of the sheer goodness of his heart in wishing equal rights for a species he was not a part of himself, but rather the financial gain that could be profited from in securing certain trade deals organised by a vampire close to him.
That vampire? His wife, as he so shockingly revealed to the public, of course under the guise that his love for his spouse had solely prompted his sway into finally securing equal rights for the undead.
“Vampires, for the most part, were once human themselves, let us never forget that. They are closer to us in morality and substance than one might first consider. In moving forward with a fairer society for both humans and the undead, it brings me the greatest of joy to unveil my new plans for all vampires everywhere to be offered the same rights as humans. Marriage between vampires and humans shall be legalised, my darling wife and I fully intending to make our so far only common law marriage legal here in the United Kingdom, setting a precedent for couples everywhere to enjoy the benefits offered to those committed to their union in the eyes of god.
“I also plan to legalise the adoption of children into such unions, vampires of course being plagued by the curse of infertility. With so many infants currently within the care system of the United Kingdom and beyond, I will seek to find loving families for these children to be taken into, and no longer turn a blind eye to the plight of vampires wishing to expand their families beyond their own means to create offspring.
"It also brings me great joy in announcing the inclusion of vampires to return to the professional sectors where they have been previously excluded. My plan is to allow for the undead to once again take up vocations within such sectors as accountancy and finance, legal and professional services, and most importantly, our struggling healthcare services."
To say his announcement outside of 10 Downing Street caused uproar would be putting it mildly. Very, very mildly indeed. Hence why you are glad to be almost six thousand miles away at present. The opposition has mainly come from, as one might guess, a mixture of the ultra-religious as well as the far-right, the proponents of such views admonishing the new laws most vociferously.
They've steadfastly opposed vampires being allowed to return to such trusted societal positions, claiming the undead fit to attend to roles such as lawyers and doctors based on very little fact, and a hell of a lot of speculative nonsense.
The sanctity of marriage, they also claim, should be between two consenting adult humans, that vampires – being technically dead – gave up those rights when they made the choice to walk the earth under the cover of darkness. As for them being offered to adopt children?
Well, the same old predictable narrative has been touted there, too, that vampires are simply wild, unhinged creatures who would pose a significant risk to any would-be children within their care, and that the Prime Minister and his cabinet have allowed for what they consider to be outright sacrilege in coming to the decision they have over what constitutes a healthy – and traditional – family unit.
Not even the safeguarding measure of vampires only over the maturity age of five hundred being considered as would-be adoptive parents has calmed any fears with these people, these ignorant, knuckle dragging stains on society with their closed minds and bigoted points of view.
Smiling, you place your chopsticks down neatly, thanking the server who dutifully whisks the plates away, ready for the next course. “We’re absolutely ecstatic, Nene,” you begin, remembering how overjoyed your husband was, to learn that when you go ahead with your plans to begin IVF, he will be able to legally adopt the baby as his own. “II actually cried, he was so happy.”
Her face warms at that, but surprisingly it doesn’t quite reach the caution in her pretty, dark eyes. “Now, to be very frank with you, lovie, I have quietly wondered over your decision in the almost year that I have known you now. By no means do I wish to pour cold water upon your joy, but I do find it somewhat curious, that in a marriage of four people, you are being a certain exclusivity into it by raising children with only one of your husbands.”
“Oh?” you question, sipping your drink. “How so?”
“The shift in dynamic,” she begins, taking a lock of her hair and beginning to twirl it around her index finger. “What you will have with II, it’ll take you to a place of commitment that you simply shan’t share with either Ves or III, effectively pushing them out, in a manner.”
You frown slightly, understanding to a degree but ultimately failing a little. “Well, not really. III has stated that he’d never want to be a father again, and Ves has remained mute on the subject. I think of course never being human, it hasn’t been anything he’s ever desired beyond the creation of his own vampiric offspring.”
“Hmm.” She’s thoughtful for a moment, lifting her chin slightly. “We vampires are jealous creatures, lovie. It concerns me that this could very easily shift the dynamic of your so far very harmonious relationship with the three of them into something arguably less so.”
“But we’re all gone into this very openly with each other from the start, and they know that being with me means being with me as a three or not at all. Jealousy doesn’t exist in what we have.”
Nene reaches for your hand, her thumb stroking the back. “That’s what they tell you, Grace. You and II raising a child together will inevitably bring you closer, and though they might state right now that it shan’t affect them negatively, mark my words. It could easily put distance between you and Ves, and you and III, no matter your intentions to the contrary.”
You can’t help but feel a prickle of agitation at her words, a cold feeling sinking into the depths of your stomach like a stone tossed into a lake. In your silence, she continues, her face softening a little more.
“You of course know them on a level I do not, regardless of how lengthy my friendship with them has been. Like I said, I don’t want to pour cold water on this for you, lovie. I merely wish to open your eyes to something that could cause problems further down the road. I care about you, you’re my friend and I treasure your companionship.”
Fixing a wide smile to your face, you cover her hand with yours, squeezing. “I’ll give it some thought. And I appreciate your honesty and concern, I do,” you continue, “because true friends don’t always say what the other wants to hear, and maybe I don’t? Maybe there’s merit in what you say, maybe there isn’t. I know you’re only telling me this with the best intentions.”
That is the honest truth, too. Nene, while old and formidable in some respects like all vampires of a certain age, is still sweeter than sugar for those she counts as close to her. Quite simply, and to quote Ves directly, she doesn't have a bad bone in her body.
She smiles, releasing your hand and picking up her glass. “Always, lovie. Always.” Your conversation moves on, but you would be lying if you said Nene’s words haven’t cast a slight shadow over your plans.
You can’t help but suddenly let the seed of nagging doubt take root, because what if she’s right? What would that mean for you and II, going forward? Abandoning your plans to add to your family over something that only might happen seems senseless, yet forging ahead with the naivety that it definitely won’t also now has you questioning yourself.
Are you the one who needs to be questioned, though?
After having an otherwise wonderful evening with her, you are once again chauffeured across the city at her expense, the car pulling up outside your home after a fifteen-minute journey through the bright lights and bustle of downtown Tokyo. With all the noise in your brain, you have one thing on your mind as you let yourself in.
Luckily, it’s your night with the vampire who can make your chosen desire possible.
“Mmm, look at you, all in black,” III hums, sitting by the fire in the otherwise unoccupied lounge. II is likely in his library, and Ves is out having a business dinner with a few people who are interested in his possible investment. “Did you have a good time?”
“I did,” you speak, your hands finding the soft white of his hair, loving that you were able to talk him into a change there. His usual bleached locks have been transformed with the aid of purple shampoo, III initially reluctant, until he saw how much it suited him.
Well, it likely had more to do with how much paler hair brings out the blue in his eyes, and how in turn this made you even more ravenous for him than you already are.
Those beautiful eyes focus upon yours, narrowing slightly. “Then why is something off?” I can feel it, you’re bothered. Talk to me, babe.”
You wave a dismissive hand. “It’s fine, just something Nene said that’s got me thinking is all.”
He frowns. “What did she say? I love that vampire to bits, y’know, she’s great, but she can be a little too candid for her own good sometimes.” Still, you hesitate, and you know it’s futile. "Oi, tell me. You know you can't bullshit your husband.”
Indeed, you cannot. Still, you hesitate on a deep breath that tingles in your chest before choosing to reveal your concerns. “Charlie, if I went ahead with II and had a baby, would you be jealous, or think you were being excluded because of it?”
He frowns, his mouth tightening and then trembling, a barked laugh escaping it as his eyes crinkle. “Fuck, no! Why, is that what Nene thinks?”
“Yeah, yeah she said that she worried it might throw some issues into our dynamic, shift it off kilter.”
More laughter follows, III licking the corner of his mouth with a little huff. “Trust me, you and II deciding to become parents isn’t gonna make me feel any kind of jealousy. I’ve been there, had my time as a father and no matter how much I love you, it isn’t something I’d want to repeat again. If she’s alluding to jealous arising because you’d probably have to spend more time with him and the baby, too, again, I’ve been there! Babies are fucking hard work! I understand it, having had two of my own.”
Leaning down, you press a kiss to his beautiful lips. “I did tell her that jealousy wasn’t a thing suffered by any of you, that the dynamic of our relationship doesn’t really allow for it. She was adamant, though, that beneath it all vampires are jealous creatures and that you’re simply hiding that from me.”
Stroking your hand where it rests against the scuff of his cheek, he turns his head to kiss your palm. “I mean, sometimes it does! However, it’s low-level. Like when I’m exceptionally horny and I can hear II banging the living fucking daylights out of you, for instance, but I shut my ears off and me and my right hand deal with it, innit?”
Snorting with laughter, you rest your forehead to his. “How’d you fancy tying me up and doing a bit of living daylights banging of your own?”
You find his reply in the form of being thrown over his shoulder, your bum smacked as he walks through the house, bedroom bound. Twenty minutes later, and you’re bound up prettily and hanging from the two large hooks he has fitted above the bed, your world a soft cocoon of tight nylon and gently pulsing bliss.
Your musical accompaniment for the proceedings are the soundtrack to the 90’s gothic romance classic The Crow, the dirty, industrial rock vibe suiting your mood as the sound of the song Golgotha Tenement Blues by the band Machines of Loving Grace filters through the corner speakers.
III lies beneath you, idly smoking a spliff, his pretty eyes half closed as he watches you keenly. “Feeling floaty?”
“Mmm,” you hum, arm muscles flexing against the restraint that has them bound behind your back, suspended face down directly above him. “How about you?”
“Stoned and fucking ragingly horny.”
Letting your eyes wander, you see the evidence of that tenting the front of the deep grey linen trousers he has, slung low, revealing the crease of his slender hips. He notices, eyes flitting to yours, following your gaze with a wicked smile spreading across his face. Taking a final drag, he crushes the spliff out in the ashtray to his side, reaching to place it onto the floor before making a show of losing his trousers.
Lying back, he wraps his hand in firm grip around his cock, a soft groan welling his throat. Surprisingly, you’ve never been spectator to him pleasuring himself before, the sight below all sinful beauty.
His cock pulses, and his strokes are viciously slow, the torment of it winding deep in his marrow, the thrill of watching the way your pupils dilate settling just as deep within. He moans, the sound rich and filthy, and you press your thighs together, feeling yourself growing slick.
A shudder rolls over his slender form, mouth dropping agape, the pop of his fangs as his eyes seep crimson sending a crackle through your body. It’s a spring storm, chasing away the frost of winter, your arousal blooming like a fragile bud revealing itself to the gentle warmth.
His eyes fix to yours, a sinful moan flowing from his lips, the sound of it settling in your chest. “You want this, don’t you, hmm?” His fist pumps languidly, the tip of his cock shining with a few little pearls of precum. “Yeah, I know exactly what my beautiful wife needs. This big, hard cock fucked right into her deep.”
“Yeah,” you purr, “deep in my throat. Let me down?”
He smirks, chuckling, the sound both rough and molten. “Maybe.”
His movements anchor you in your torment, the sound of it slick and filthy, your muscles bouncing as you feel overpowered by the constraint, wanting nothing but to let your lust loose upon the vampire teasing your desires so thoroughly.
You can feel your need for him damp and hot against your thighs, your cunt trickling, the scent of it catching under his nose, calling for his mouth. The incandescence of it throbs over his body, sends sparks glimmering up his spine, III suddenly standing to up his lift you down from the hooks.
In a flash, his quick fingers have you untied, fangs receding before his mouth is upon yours. His kisses are ravenous, full of longing as your tongues swirl like they’re in duel. You moan into it, the sound spilling into his mouth as he takes you down to the bed, limbs entwining, the air filled with the sonnet of kisses and soft panting.
The desire in you takes shape, like a physical thing running through your blood unchecked, turning III onto his back. He happily lets you take charge of him, his hands drifting down your back as your sprinkle kisses over his chest, descending, the hardness pressed into your belly jerking when your hand reaches to grasp it.
His breath shudders, the wet drag of your tongue making the hairs descending his navel sparkle in the dim light, wrapping the head of his cock in the warm clasp of your mouth. You suck gently, tasting him, tongue teasing little slicks before your lips firm and descend, and it drags a gravelled moan from the depths of his chest.
The spark of your arousal crackles, shimmering, building to something brighter at your apex, the girth of him filling your mouth in a hard press against your tongue. A little spurt of precum wets your lip as you pop him out from your suck, your eyes shining as you watch his head thud back against the bed, your tongue running in slow trails up and down his shaft.
The rises and ridges of veins feel firm and delicious against your tongue, his cock bobbing as you continue your tease, moving to run a long lick up his inner thigh as you hand takes over, tugging him gently, thumb swirling over the very tip.
“Love this cock,” you whisper, more to yourself than him. “Love the way every inch of it feels.”
Running a long lick over the seam of his balls, you summon forth a string of moans, returning your mouth to him and establishing a rhythm that feels almost mediative, like waves rolling over a shore, back and forth, back and forth. A little speed, a firmer suck, and you have him, III’s groan dark and rumbling, his hand fisting in a soft tug at the roots of your hair.
His ascent is rapid, even for him, and he’s practically growling in red eyed, fang bared delirium as his hips rise off the bed, fucking your mouth as he loses himself to the ecstasy you bestow on him. Your hand joins, working in him in a mind-numbing tandem, and with a final, barbarous groan, he paints the back of your throat with thick ropes of release.
“Show me,” he requests, still panting, eyes gleaming red. Sticking out your tongue, his seed trickles down, dripping onto his cock, and you lick it up, making his muscles cord tight. “Mmm, yeah. Always look so hot with a mouthful of my cum.”
Swallowing it down, you kiss your way back up his body, his hands moving to grasp you. Letting him arrange your body exactly how he wants it, he has you on your knees, shuffling down the bed, hands stroking heated paths over your breasts as his lips pepper kisses at the uppermost junction of your thigh.
He teases, lets his cool breath flutter against your splayed sex before dragging that first velvet soft stroke against your folds.
“Huhhh, mmm.” you murmur, his mouth parting over the slicked, hot mess of your sex, tasting you with a fevered grunt. His hands move, arms wrapping around your thighs, holding you in a steady anchor as his tongue begins to lap at the honey of you, slick and sweet against his lips.
You let your thighs widen, sending yourself tighter against his mouth, your tummy quivering as you feel him drawing slow, light circles over your clit with the tip of his tongue. A shiver trickles down your spine like rain as that contact firms, his mouth closing in a hot suck, radiance blooming in colours behind your closed eyelids.
He hums something, muted by the soft wet of your womanhood, but you understand it was praise, III sucking on you like ripe summer fruit, his eyes slowly closing, concealing the sparkling garnet fire behind long, sooty lashes. You sway against his face, and he encourages it, hands guiding your hips as he sticks out his tongue, gives you something to grind against.
It slips over your clit, and you centre your soft little ruts there, heat singeing you, something honeyed and golden lapping in your tummy, growing like a fever. His breath fans against you, embers skipping over your vertebra, your little bud aching as he begins to caress it once more with deep, wet slicks of his tongue. You cry out, body quaking so violently it almost knocks your balance, but he holds you, eats you through it, makes you trickle hot and syrupy onto his unrelenting tongue.
“Want you,” you pant, “want your cock so badly.”
His eyes drift open, and he smiles, tongue still stroking up and down over your swollen little bundle. “Give me a minute, and you can get on it.” He hums a chuckle, sucking on you with a groan. “Probably don’t even need that long, but you’re gonna come on my tongue first either way.”
Beginning to work you there, his licks press firmer, faster, moving at a pace no human could dream of achieving. It sends pleasure flaying through you, little flint strikes brightening as it gathers like a storm. Gasping, your thighs lock rigid, and it hits you in wave after wave as your mouth falls open on a shriek of ecstasy, hips purling against his face, his hands gripping hard at your hips.
“Fuck!” you huff breathlessly, trembling against the soft kisses he presses against your clit, tongue trawling gently. “You’re too good at that!”
He smiles against you, mouth still working you softly. “Helps that I’d fucking be down here all night long if you let me. There’s little I love more than a mouthful of you.”
“Except,” you begin, shifting back to straddle his thighs, taking his cock and guiding it to your soaked opening. “Maybe this?”
The groan at feeling himself sheathed and drenched in warm velvet steals his reply, III moaning softly, stroking the curve of your tummy beneath explorative fingertips. His head thuds back on the bed, a whispered string of expletives leaving his mouth, his hips rising, cock taking root right at your summit.
You might be riding him, but he is not content to lie idle beneath you, rutting into you solidly, forcing laboured gasps from your throat as he drags sparks along your walls. Between him drawing back and rolling up into you, you match your movements in the kind of tandem that leaves you both staggered by the perfect sync, your mutual moans quickly ascending.
“Fuck... feels so fucking good,” he groans, chest heaving, your nails grazing down over pale flesh. “I’ve fucked you hundreds of times now, but it always feels like the first again.”
A smile tilts your lips, tongue catching that sultry pout in a little slick, III grasping your legs and pulling them to cross behind him as he sits up. "Maybe I'm just that good, hmm?" you wink, and he chuckles softly, kissing you.
“Yeah, so fucking true,” he agrees, pressing his body against yours tightly. “That, and the fact I’ve never loved anybody quite as much as I do you, Gracie.”
His words ring in your ears like a bell through the night, resting your forehead to his, your fingers curling at the sides of his neck, nails stroking swirls. Beneath you, be drives himself up, fucks himself into you, all power and need, his hands sliding up your back and gripping your shoulders, forcing you to take the onslaught.
His thrusts are hard and slapping as he bounces you on his cock, your fingers weaving into his hair, pulling his head back and staring at him magmatically, watching his fangs shoot out. God if there’s nothing sexier to your eyes than a vampire, teeth bared, turned on out of his mind.
And if he isn’t prettier than sin itself enough as it is, but when you have him here like this, you know you could drown in him completely and it’d never quite be enough.
His hand snakes up your neck, weaving into your hair, and you anticipate the tightening before it happens. Gradually, he begins to pull, making you arch into him before the burning sear of his fangs punctures your neck.
Oh, the feeling of being fucked and fed upon. It’ll never lose its hedonistic rush, racing over your skin like hellfire unleashed, pressing yourself against him tighter as you release his hair and reach behind yourself to grip his thighs.
The smack of skin fills the space, his growls adding a thunderous baritone against the pitch of your cries, and you can feel him letting it drag him under, his teeth puncturing your breast. The pain radiates, meets the pooling pleasure that throbs neon, every colour illuminating as your walls flutter around him, turned inside out, your bones reduced to jelly as he fucks ceaseless, cresting waves throughout your entire body.
His arms tighten around you, taking you back onto the bed with him, the rapid rise and fall of his chest eventually becoming still, III pressing kisses to your forehead.
“Did that scramble your brains efficiently enough?”
You can’t even reply for a few moments attempting to catch your breath. “Mm.”
His laugh is soft in the wake of your blissed-out hum. “We’ve got just under two hours until dawn. Can I give you a little rest and some blood, then do that to you all over again?”
Charlie. He always says all the right words. “Mm.”
By the time the electronic blinds are coming down to swathe the room in darkness, you are beyond the realms of exhaustion, cuddling into your husband as he strokes your clammy skin, whispering soft declarations of love. And, well, a few other words that are perhaps not quite as sweet, but you appreciate the sentiment all the same.
"I think I did a good job, you know. I can't feel the end of my cock at the moment."
That, and your soft laughter against his chest are the last things you remember before falling asleep, not waking until around an hour before sundown and deciding to make the most of the hour you'll have to yourself.
"Hi, hi, missus! How are you? Oh, it's bloody lovely to hear your voice!"
Just as it is for you to hear Meghan's, too. "Yeah, pretty good thanks, darl. I just got up, so I'm enjoying the peace until the husbands all wake in just under an hour."
Your friend laughs, moving a cuddly toy from the armchair and crashing her weary bones into it. "It still makes me do a mental double-take, whenever you pluralise husbands!"
Oh, what a wild ride you took her on, when you finally got to catching her up on your life a couple of months after IV died. She was, just as you expected of your old uni friend, completely staggered to learn where your life had taken you.
"I think it does me, too, and I'm the one whose married to them!"
You often call it that now in the real sense, after having an actual ceremony to commemorate the union. There are few places in the world which recognise polygamous marriages, Morocco being one of them, which was the location where a tribal celebrant who Ves knows offered to to officiate the ceremony. In the wake of it, your new husbands also took your lead and changed their surnames, everyone in the family now a Danielsson-White, too.
"Bet that was a shitting exhausting wedding night, eh?"
She's so funny, but yes, absolutely correct. "It's a good job I'm used to it, isn't it?"
"Oooh, get you!" she teases, laughing, dangling one of her slippers off her toes as she idly bounces her leg with mirth. "So, are you still in Japan? Any sign of coming home soon? You've got a new little bundle to meet, after all."
Her family has expanded, her new son Harvey born just two weeks ago and already, proving to be a more difficult baby than her eldest, Polly, who will turn two later in the year. "I am, I can't bloody wait to give him a cuddle, and you!"
Getting to see her and meet the baby are two things you're looking forward to, and you've equally missed home in England, too. However, you'd be lying if you said a shadow didn't hang over you whenever you've sporadically returned there since departing after the loss of IV. It's been a year, and while you manage for the most part, it still feels fresh and raw at times, your heart still longing for him.
Continuing your conversation, you ask plenty of questions about the new baby, still assuming her to be very much out of her mind for her and Jay, her husband, deciding to move while she was almost full term in her pregnancy.
"That's a stunning little house," Ves tells you a time later as you sit in the kitchen at your laptop, having a look at the property Meghan gave you the address of so you could have a little nose at it on Rightmove. "Click on that one there, darling," he then adds, pointing to the row of homes still for sale within the idyllic, much desired area of the Cotswolds.
"Oh, blimey!" you exclaim, your mouth dropping open at the stunning property that loads on the screen, Ves resting his chin to your shoulder as you begin to click through. "It's a bloody manor house!"
"Grade I listed, hmm," he hums, making little noises as you click through the photographs. "With a guest house, estate cottage and a stable block barn. Hmm, could put some horses in it since you've decided you like riding now."
You turn your head slowly. "You're not seriously considering it, are you?"
"Perhaps."
He's like a child in a sweet shop, this vampire and his ever-expanding property portfolio. "It's eleven bedrooms, Ves! We don't need a house that big! It's almost nineteen thousand square feet!"
"This one is eight bedrooms, as is Norton House," he reasons. "And the ranch is ten."
"Yeah, but it's twelve and a half million quid!"
He frowns slightly. "And your point is?" In your silence, he takes control of the mouse pad, continuing to flick through each image. "I suppose English Heritage will put my bloody bollocks in a vice again, trying to have shadow glass installed."
"You really want it, don't you?" you ask, your tone light in disbelief.
He merely gives his eyebrows a little raise, picking up his green tea and taking a sip. "Do you like it?"
Floundering, you shake your head. "I mean I do, it's breathtaking, but…"
"And I know you're always veiled in a little sadness, whenever we return to Little Norton," he continues, sipping his tea again with a smirk. Oh, it's that special smirk. The one he does when he's about to do something you consider financially reckless, forgetting as ever just how wealthy your husband actually is. "II, III, come here."
Two blurs arrive with you, and you're greeted with kisses from them as Ves points at the screen. "What do you think?"
"Absolutely fucking stunning," II replies, clicking through the photographs, nodding with approval.
"That's a proper country pile, innit?" III exclaims. "Oh, it's got a vineyard! Gracie, you can get pissed for cheap!"
"Right, that's that, then," Ves announces, looking pleased with himself. "I'll call the estate agents and offer them cash for a quick sale before we go to bed come the morning."
Twelve and a half million. Just like that. Not even a blink or a hair ruffled out of place, and he drops eight figures on a new house.
Cotswolds, here you come, then!

The heat from the roaring hearth welcomes you into the cottage, the air perfumed by a juxtaposition of earthy spices and fresh floral scents. Kicking off your shoes and hanging your coat and scarf up, you move into the small, yet quintessentially cottagecore living room.
You didn’t have the heart to spoil it by painting and decorating in anything that deviated from complimenting the originality, even though the urge to perhaps zhuzh it up a little with some bright colours nibbled at you persistently.
You stuck with a neutral colour palette, though, pale sage green, although you sensed that nothing would delight your dear, late grandmother – who bequeathed the property to you – more than to witness it painted the sunny yellow you were considering.
Hovering by the edge of the softly stuffed, battered old leather sofa, you’re just about to switch the TV on when there’s a crash in the kitchen.
“Ted?” you call. Swearing becomes audible. Oh, no. “Teddy, what are you attempting to cook in there? Please, not the masala fish again, darl. We both know you and masala fish don’t have the best track record.”
It took weeks to get the smell of burned salmon and masala spices out of the curtains; such was the depth of the odour. You’re about to move to the kitchen and offer some assistance, when your very triumphant looking housemate appears, holding two bowls aloft.
“Coronation chicken pasta ala Teddy, and I didn’t burn- oh, my god, what’s wrong with your face?” he begins, rapidly veering off mid-sentence when his eyes meet yours, his smile dropping faster than a stone falling into water.
You wave a dismissive hand, reaching for a bowl. “Nothing, it’s okay. I just had a run in with a bloody vampire outside, is all.”
He gasps, air sucked in over his vocal cords so rapidly, it sounds more like a wheeze. “Wait, wait! Oh, my Jesus. Oh!”
He places the bowl down on the coffee table, arms flailing around as he rushes back into the kitchen, the sound of rummaging reaching you. When he returns, oh...
“Teddy!” you cry, a little laugh rippling your voice. “Put that away!”
“No, you need this!”
You very much doubt a Waitrose three pack of garlic bulbs are going to do much good to you now, after the fact. “Garlic doesn’t instantly repel them, you know that.”
“It’s in all the films!”
Bless him. “Yes, for characterised vampires,” you point out, “and granted, while the real ones apparently don’t enjoy strong smells, they won’t instantly recoil at garlic. Or crucifixes, before you go upstairs and raid your jewellery.”
His mouth thins, nodding as he looks down at the garlic cloves, head then rapidly snapping up again, clicking his fingers. “I have colloidal silver! I’ve been preparing for this, for one to turn up in the village!”
He means well, but as usual, he’s flying into a panic where such is simply not the required response. “Teddy, come sit. Actually, no. Put the garlic back and fetch a couple of glasses. Look.” Delving into your bag, you pull out the bottle nestled within. “The chicken wine!”
That distracts him nicely. “Oh, they finally got it?” he exclaims, figuring your mutual pestering for it at the village off license finally paid off. He isn’t wrong, Beverly caving before ordering a few cases of La Vielle Ferme rosé on the strict proviso that you’d purchase it from her regularly enough to warrant the special order.
Unscrewing the cap from the bottle, Teddy proffers two glasses forth, plonking himself down on the sofa at your side. “So, now I’ve calmed down, tell me. A run in with one, yet I can see you’re fine?”
“It was weird,” you begin, filling the glasses before setting the bottle down and taking a glass from him. “Cheers.” Toasting him, you take a sip before continuing. God, that’s good rosé. “He just appeared, as they often do.”
“Where you scared?” he interrupts with, as he often does.
Picking up your pasta bowl, your eyes widen, resting it upon your lap. “Oh, fuck yes. Of course, I bloody was. To begin with, and then, hmm. I dunno. I felt... calm? Calm, but still wary. He was a big fella. Really tall, broad chest, although the rest of him was pretty lean. And he just stands there, doesn’t say a fucking word to me at first. Stared at me and that was it. Then he grabbed my arm and stopped me from falling over, stared at me some more, said one word to me and vanished.”
“Was the word clumsy?” he asks, amused. “Because you are in those boots. I keep telling you, high heels and wet leaves do not go hand in hand. Or foot in foot, as the case may be.”
“Omega.”
He ceases his chewing immediately. “I beg your pardon?”
“That’s what he said to me. Omega.”
He gapes slightly. “That’s it?!”
Placing your fork down, you reach beneath his chin, shutting his open mouth with a soft clunk. “Yeah, that’s it. Weird, isn’t it?”
A whole host of micro expressions convey his disbelief. “Weird is putting it mildly, Gracie. That’s full on bizarre!” Spearing up pasta bows with his fork, he’s thoughtful for a few moments, eyes flitting between you and his food hesitantly.
“What?” you inquire. “Spit it out.”
“Do you think he was messing with you on purpose?”
“Of course, on purpose,” you snort, chewing through a piece of chicken. “They never do anything unless it serves a purpose, but what the bloody purpose is of scaring me half to frigging death and then speaking such a cryptic word before vanishing, is anybody’s guess!”
He continues to chew, contemplating. “They don’t usually come out into the sticks, do they?” He’s correct there. Vampires, ever since revealing themselves to the public at large five years ago, mostly dwell within the busier cities where there are ample food sources. Not that it truly matters, really, when you’re dealing with a creature capable of movement so quick, the human eye is unable to detect it. Travelling to feed isn’t an issue.
“Odd. Really bleedin’ odd,” Teddy surmises, shaking his head as he reaches for his wine. “What did he look like?”
Like nothing you have ever, ever seen before. “He looked like he was dressed to play a character, although I couldn’t tell you who. Long robe, black trousers, lots of jewellery and a mask that half covered his face. He was black, too, strangely.”
Immediately, you’re nudged and tutted at. “Gracie! You’re not a racist?”
“No, no,” you rush, wincing, realising you could have perhaps worded that better. “I don’t mean as in black racially. I mean as in, jet black. Like he’d been body painted.” You pause, feeling uncomfortable. “He was gorgeous, from what I could see.”
“Oooh, girly!” Teddy enthuses, with a little tremble of excitement. “Now we’re getting to the good stuff!” Tittering a little more, he continues. “Maybe he’d been out someplace, so he was dressy? Masks and robes, sounds very clandestine. Like the way those people who do the decadent sex party's dress.”
Your eyebrow arches. “And what would you know of decadent sex parties, my love?”
“I don’t just sit in the house watching Eastenders and waiting for you to come home, you know!” he bustles, chuckling with mirth. “Nah, but you know what I mean, right? All those fancy London types with the illicit shagging marathons at secret sex clubs.”
“Little Norton is a bit far from London,” you point out, scooping up the remaining pasta sauce with the slice of garlic ciabatta provided.
“Yes, but that doesn’t matter for a vampire, does it? You know, with the speed and all that.”
You feel like you’ve veered off course a little, sipping your wine and placing your bowl down on the coffee table. “It still doesn’t explain what he’s doing here, or why he appeared like that, said omega and then vanished.” You mull it over a little, Teddy still chewing through his mouthful of pasta. “Maybe time will tell?”
“And if he does have the hook up for those fancy sex parties, let me know, eh?” he winks, “However, I refuse to shag him, even if he is pretty. I don’t think I could do it, you know. Let a vampire up my bum.”
You fall apart laughing at that, giving him a few soft nudges with your elbow as you hiss with amusement. While you and Teddy sit and eventually fall into other topics of discussion, the vampire moves through the night, the wind rushing by him in a furious gust, his form finally coming to a stop.
Looking up, he views his new abode with scrutinous eyes, noting that the scaffolding has moved. Progress. About time too, with what he’s paying the builders.
The ancient, crumbling decay of Norton House is receiving a much-needed facelift after lying in abandoned ruin for so many years. The people who inherited it from their long passed and much wealthier relatives simply didn’t have the financial means to renovate the property, so it has stood empty, barren and decayed for over ninety years.
For the vampire wishing to purchase it quickly, offering an ample stack of cash to the owners, the state of it didn’t matter one bit. It was the location that was of importance to him.
Scanning the building, he sees the roof is now completely redone, a few windows replaced as well with the newest in vampire-friendly technology. Shadow glass. It allows a room to be illuminated by the sunlight, without actually letting any of its deathly ray's beam through, thus burning to death the undead dwelling behind it.
Getting that past English Heritage was a ball ache he did not enjoy enduring, the jobsworths insisting on originality in keeping with the Grade II listed building.
“Madam, I must insist that while every effort will be undertaken to restore Norton House to its former glory, the shadow glass is non-negotiable. It can’t have escaped you what I am, can it?” he’d drawled to the woman who’d quite relished in making his existence a misery over it. Of course, she had tried to argue further, but the red eyed stare glowing out from beneath his mask, coupled with the pop of two long, sharp fangs had led to her swallowing heavily before approving the permission.
Entering the home, he immediately senses the presence of two more, picking up on the third, feeling he’s roughly around twenty miles away. He always feels them, the ones he has created, his blood forever linking their essence to his own.
Reaching to the back of his head, he unfastens the mask he is forced to conceal himself behind in public, hanging it as well as his robe up there on the designated pegs in the welcome hall. Within a rapid passing of time, he’s gone upstairs, showered off the paint covering him and returned, same trousers, bare chested, into the beautifully renovated space. It looks much better than it did a month ago, the walls re-plastered, painted a deep, sumptuous shade of claret, the oak floorboards waxed and buffed to a pristine shine.
When one has ample money, entire teams of people can be paid to work around the clock. Still, much of the property remains in shambles, the vampire strolling through the bare lounge, dust sheets underfoot, the fresh plaster upon the walls looking almost dry.
Looking up, he sees the original coving that cost him thousands to restore all fixed back in place again, everything looking ready to be painted the dark grey and contrasting white he chose in paint. He doubts he’ll spend much time in there, but with a vampire in the family who is fond of gaming, he wanted to provide a space for a large television and plethora of consoles.
The musky aroma coming from the second lounge in the next room over, one still in tatters of peeling paint, decaying walls and rising damp hits his nose a thousand times stronger than it would a mere mortal, but it doesn’t bother him too much. The important rooms are now furnished, at least. Bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen. The rest are unurgent.
“When the fuck is that woman going to commence work on my library?”
Well, someone else certainly has his own thoughts regarding the order of refurbishment.
“Good evening to you, too, II.” He always meets his blunt rudeness with a more graceful disposition, knowing well how to deal with his often-hostile temperament.
A sharp side eye is earned, the vampire looking at him from over the top of a book. “Don’t give me that bloody sarcasm of yours. I want a place to read that’s fit for purpose, Vessel. Surely that isn’t too much to ask? Making us leave Tokyo and our beautiful home for this barely furnished hellhole. Without the one thing you know I hold dear!”
Most who know him shorten his name to Ves. Except for II, usually when annoyed, which is often. “We have dwelled in places much shabbier than this. It seems you forget this. I remember you made little complaint when we dwelled within the caves for a couple of hundred years. You’re becoming bourgeoise in your old age.”
He grunts, shaking his head as he returns to the well-thumbed pages of the book in his hands. The silence stretches out, Ves pottering around the kitchen, preparing himself a cup of Earl Grey. While certain cinematic renditions of vampires have detailed that the beings solely exist on the blood of the living, it is not true that they cannot still imbibe of human sustenance. They just don’t need to in order to survive.
Food can still be eaten and drinks enjoyed, although things such as coffee or alcohol do not work as stimulus, being that they are dead. For some unknown, strange occurrence, they also do not make waste in the same way a human does, never needing to pass water or stool. What happens to the food is anyone’s guess, really. Vessel himself often explains it in his own mind that whatever magic created him also does away with whatever he chooses to eat, lest it lay rotting in an unworking digestive system.
Not that he is a regular eater at all, but does love his tea. Some of his kind simply do so because they enjoy it and nothing more, some to attach themselves to a sense of humanity lost when they are made into what they are. Then there are some who never let anything other than blood pass their lips. Vampires, much like the humans they were, all differ.
A sound coming from the basement of the property, in what used to be the old wine cellar tears up into the space then. Not that their bionic hearing didn’t pick up on her prior to the shrill scream moving through the stillness of the air like a blade.
“At least somebody is enjoying himself,” II mutters, eyes not leaving the pages he turns carefully. He could read the entire volume in his hands in about two minutes at the speed he is capable of processing words, yet chooses not to use his vampiric talents unless he needs to garner the information rapidly.
Ves smiles, humming a soft chuckle. “III always does.” he replies fondly, speaking of his second-youngest fledgling. At just two hundred years old, he’s still settling into it, what he is. Vampires, it is noted, only truly come into their poise at around five hundred, so he has a few centuries left to run semi-wild. “I’m only surprised that he’s down there with just one.”
Indeed, III has a penchant for entertaining multiple lovers at the same time. Regularly.
The vampires exist within the space in silence, Ves sipping at his tea while gazing at the very overgrown back garden, considering his options. He could easily afford to have it brought back under control by a landscaping team and tended to in the daylight hours by a gardener, or simply brick it over with paving. The desire for a nice, outdoor space is a little too human for his wants and needs, he feels, although in their previous home he did enjoy the tranquillity of the water garden.
Tranquillity; a word lost to the sudden bang of the cellar door against the kitchen wall, the young woman who threw it open storming through, haphazardly dressed and still slick with sweat.
“You’re a bloody animal!”
III follows, laughing, blood trailing down his bare chest from his sanguineus mouth. “Well, I ain’t vegetable or mineral, am I, babe?”
Her heels strike hard, furious steps across the floor, echoing away, the front door opening and slamming shut, III still tittering as II arches an eyebrow.
“What did you do this time?” he asks, the sigh that carries each word bearing with it the weight of a question asked a thousand times before.
III beams, kicking out a chair from the table and throwing himself down, resting his military-booted feet up on the top. “Nothing she didn’t ask for.”
He’s eyed carefully over the pages of the Nietzche text. “But did she?”
“Of course!” he chirps. “She said she wanted me to break her back, so I did.” Shrugging, he’s still laughing to himself. “Gave her my blood to heal her instantly, her spine is fine now, so I don’t see the problem!”
“You not being able to decipher between literal and figurative seems to be the problem,” II assesses coolly, eyes snapping back to his book.
Ves places his tea down, moving to III and leaning to plant a kiss atop his head. “He knows the difference well. He’s just unruly, aren’t you, my little chaos goblin?”
The gangly, blonde vampire tilts his head back, beaming. “I’m still a baby for three hundred years! I’m allowed to be!”
His creator chuckles, moving back to lean against the counter, reaching for his mug of tea once more. “Indeed, you are. Perhaps heed a little caution with fucking your lovers so assiduously that you literally leave them broken though, hmm?”
He receives a little salute. “Alright. Maybe.”
Ves raises his eyebrows. “We don’t need any police knocking on our door, III. As much as your antics provide amusement, trust me, nobody will be laughing at you languishing in a silver-barred cell.”
“I would,” II chips in with, winking at the thunderous look he receives.
“So, were you out tonight?” III then asks, turning to Ves with curiosity twinkling the blue of his eyes, which have only just turned back to that normal shade from burning vermillion. It’s triggered within them, an emotional response that causes the irises of a vampire to bleed red. Usually when angered, hungry, aroused or at the very least, keenly interested in whatever it is they’re targeting.
“I was,” he confirms, III’s grin spreading.
“And was your hunt for a pretty little thing as successful as mine?”
“I’d hardly call her storming out mid-fuck successful,” II interjects with, III waving his arms around haphazardly in dismissal of that statement. The way he moves has always reminded his elder sibling somewhat of a spider, all rapid scuttling and long limbs that well mimic the tetrapod gait. Remarkable, really, when he only possesses two legs opposed to eight.
“I blew a load in all three holes before she buggered off,” he assures him. “I’d call that pretty successful.”
III. Such a charismatic vampire... He would argue that being abruptly uncouth is exactly where his charisma lies, though.
“It was not,” Ves confirms. That isn’t news to anyone. He’s always been fussy where women are concerned. “However, I did make contact. With her.”
The two vampires visibly straighten at that, II’s cool demeanour only flickering to mildly temperate, III, of course, immediately alert.
“You did?” He casts his eyes around, head virtually swivelling from side to side rapidly. “Then, where the fuck is she?”
Ahhh, the virtues he still does not quite understand. “Patience,” Ves advises sagely, sipping his tea. “We must be patient with her.”
“Fuck that,” the youngster snorts, tapping his boot off the tabletop. “We need her!”
“I am aware of the urgency,” he speaks, his voice measured and calm, “but we have to tread carefully, lest our previous patterns befall us once more.”
III throws himself from the chair, moving to a cupboard to pull out a huge bag of chilli flavoured crisps. He’s the only one out of the four who still hoovers up food like it’s going out of fashion, and spicy is his preferred flavour profile. “You forget what you are half the fucking time, you know!” Yanking the bag open, he takes a handful out, shoving them into his mouth. “All this dancing around it! You can just fucking tell her what’s gonna happen and be done with it, but no! You’re all about the bloody pleasantries and diplomacy!”
Ves’s forehead creases with the depth of his frown. “That’s a rather apathetic comment, coming from the most human friendly of my offspring.”
III shrugs nonchalantly. “Needs must and all that. Not like we have to harm her, just go get her and tell her what’s what, y’know?”
“I am an advocate of fairness,” he smoothly counters with, “not telling her what is what, as you put it. This is something that cannot be forced, and we cannot risk losing her, not now time is ticking on so swiftly.”
A spray of chewed potato crumbs tumbles to the kitchen floor. “And where has that geniality gotten us over the last... well, two hundred years I’ve been with you for, and the few fucking thousand before me, hmm?”
“Watch your fucking tone,” II warns him, his voice deepening, unimpressed by his lack of respect. “We might be democratic in this family, but he’s still the one who made you. Show some veneration.”
“Oooh, four syllables. Fancy,” he sneers, II out of his seat in less than a second, III grabbed by the back of his head and forced down to the kitchen table.
“I also have a fucking thousand years on you, boy. A thousand years of brainpower, strength and tenacity, all of which are needed to ensure our goal is successful this time. Now, remember your respect, and wind in your ceaselessly irritating penchant for being a gobby little twat, or I’ll fucking gut you.”
Who he was in life has never left him, Ves notes as he observes the scene.
III rips himself free of the clasp when it slackens, standing, laughing while running long, nimble fingers through his hair with a wink. “I like it when you’re rough with me,” he purrs, II growling low in his throat, his creator’s hand pressing to his shoulder.
“Leave it.”
“But he’s...”
The hand clenches, the clasp saying much more than the repetition of his words. “I said leave it.”
A hush settles in the kitchen, tension hanging thick as stale smoke. Ves sips his tea with measured calm, his eyes catching the glint of mischief still glowing in III’s eyes.
“Go out,” he advises, feeling the agitation still radiating from his eldest offspring. “A little distance is required, I feel.”
The younger of the vampires rolls his eyes, moving at speed to go and wash the blood from his chest, cover his skin in black paint and pull on a t shirt and mask, the sound of the front door closing behind him echoing through the house after a few seconds. The hostility still vibrates within the air, II staring at the space he previously occupied, his jaw set like chipped stone.
“I love him, I do,” he begins, teeth grinding, “but when he’s reckless like this...”
Ves lifts his chin, his head tilting slightly. “You were much the same in your infancy. I think you have a tendency to forget that at times.”
“I don’t,” he snorts, eyeing him from under a furrowed brow. “You favour him, and you know you do.”
“I show him leniency because of his age, just the same as I do with IV. And did with you, but again, you choose to forget this.” II opens his mouth to plead his case further, but finds his words halted before they’ve even been spoke. “No. No more. I’m tired of it. You know better, he doesn’t.”
His word, as ever, is final. After all, a vampire can only ever push back so far against their creator. II realises that better than most, and unlike III, remembers his respect.
“Ves, I apologise,” he begins, picking up his book only to place it down again. “It’s a tense time for us all. This could be it, the end of us living as fucking outcasts. The very thought of it being jeopardised is pushing my temper, but you are correct. I should know better.”
The elder vampire merely nods in acknowledgement, moving from the space within a blink, the remains of his tea still gently steaming within the cup. His form comes to a stop outside, the quiet of the night air peaceful, soothing, exactly what he needs.
The stillness is punctuated only by the distant hooting of owls, the fellow creatures of the night oblivious to the struggles of the apex predator perched atop the crumbling wall. If he didn’t consciously filter it out, though, his ancient ears would pick up on the most minute of sounds. He allows it only for a second, and it fills his head like a cacophony of nature, the scuttling eight legs of arachnids, the heartbeat of mice.
Finding his stillness, his eyes drift upward to the moon, the waxing gibbous prompting the usual centuries-old ache within his chest. He wonders, briefly, whether fate will ever grant them the peace they crave, the respite from stigma, or if their endless blight will continue to serve as their perpetual penance.
Only the omega will answer that question.
A restlessness creeps over him again, the midnight hour leaving him listless, uncomfortable, needing a distraction and cessation to his churning mind. Back into the house he goes once more, painting up, robe and mask adorned, leaving the house in rapid flight to once again search the night for a warm body to lose himself to for a few hours.
He’d rather stay at home, but needs, as the old saying goes, must.

“Shit, bloody shit!” you hiss, moving down a gear, slowly turning into the skid. With the snow still tumbling from the sky and only minimal plough movement through the village, the roads are, to put it in the mildest of terms, perilous as hell. It’s two days before Christmas, you’re all finished at work for the year and right now, desperately attempting to head home after your final shopping trip for gifts.
Your vampires told you not to make a fuss, that apart from decorating the house - mostly at III’s insistence - Christmas was something that bypassed them altogether where gift giving was concerned. It didn’t mean you had to listen, though.
They certainly didn’t when it came to you, a whole host of boxes beneath the tree appearing over the last few days destined to be opened by yourself. Adding to that will be a first edition copy of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for II, since after scouring his library one morning you noticed the shelves to be missing that particular volume. Next on your list, a commissioned painting by an up-and-coming artist named Eleanor Birch, who Ves enjoys the works of greatly. You did attempt to grab one of her pieces at auction, but the bidding went much too high for your bank balance to comfortably shoulder.
Hilariously, you soon discovered that the person you were bidding against was Ves himself when the painting appeared in the living room. You kept that to yourself, though, save ruining the surprise of what you’re buying him for Christmas. You’re sure he’ll find it funny, though, when you do eventually tell him how wide your eyes went at hearing how much he was bidding against you for it, while you sat and wondered just how wealthy the mystery fellow phone bidder was.
For III, you decided upon something to assist the growth of his collection of the macabre, purchasing a Tibetan engraved human skull that cost an absolute bomb. All in all, your gifts for them totalled perhaps more than you could afford, making you glad that Klarna exists, so at least for one of the purchases you can pay in instalments. You do feel a little guilty, though, for not organising anything for IV, but with him being as frosty as ever towards you, those feelings are quick to pass.
He’d likely only throw whatever you bought for him in the bin anyway, you reason.
Turning into the long driveway to head home, or your second home, as you refer to Norton House as, you shift the car into third gear and floor the accelerator, trying as best you can to make it over the frozen ground. The engine struggles, even with the advantage of your Mini being a front wheel drive, the tires skidding and locking as you surge forward only to slide back.
“Come on, come on, come on!” you urge, gritting your teeth. “We’re nearly there, little car!”
Oh, how you are not, though, realising you probably need to call one of your vampires for a push as you skid back, the car suddenly lurching, sliding to the side. “Jesus bloody Christ!” you yell, feeling the back sink, the rest of the car following at you hold on tight, your heart hammering as you realise the nearside rear wheel has done straight into the ditch.
This only worsens when you feel the car tip, the windows smashing and bodywork crumpling as it ends up on its side, with you desperately hanging onto the door handle. For fucks sake!
“Bloody fucking hell!” you fume, turning on the light and reaching to the holder to grab your phone, still hanging on with one hand as your body tilts you to the left, the seatbelt taking the strain.
“Hello, beautiful,” II answers on the third ring. “I thought you’d be home by now?”
So did you. “Well, I nearly am,” you begin, laughing a little, “I’m at the end of the drive, stuck in the bloody ditch. I lost the back wheel and the car tipped over. Come help!”
You blink and he’s pulling the door open. “I will make no jokes about bad female driving. Just know I’m thinking them, though.”
His wink shows his jest, but once he’s pulled you from the car, you still wallop him with a slap to the chest, laughing as he leans to kiss you. “I’ll fucking put you back in there if I have any more of that,” he warns, the blur that is Ves coming to a stop.
“Oh dear,” he speaks, he and II moving to either end of the car. “You proper buggered that up, didn’t you?”
“How choice, coming from someone who doesn’t drive!” you fume lightly, moving out of the way as they lift the car with ease from the ditch. Vampire strength truly is a remarkable thing. They carry it up the drive at speed, II returning to lift you and transport you rapidly, placing you down, Ves assessing the damage.
“The repairs will likely cost more than it’s worth, although I would of course pay them for you,” he begins, looking like he’s mulling something over. “Hmm, unpack your stuff from the boot and we’ll move it into the garage for now. Uncanny timing, really.”
“What is?” you speak, watching him beginning to grin, clearly pleased with himself.
“You’ll see. It looks like you’re going to be receiving your Christmas present from me a little early.” He hasn’t...
After retrieving your mountain of shopping bags and handbag, you head inside, throwing everything down in the lounge and being embraced by III in greeting before Ves calls for you. Meeting him at the front door, he turns you around, clasping his hand over your eyes and walking you outside.
“Happy Christmas, my love.”
His hand moves, and your jaw almost hits the floor. Oh, he did. He really, really did.
“Oh, my fucking god!”
He chuckles, wrapping his arms around you, leaning to kiss your cheek. “You like it, then? I wasn’t sure about the colour, but I know you like black, so decided on that rather than red or grey.”
There before you stands a brand-new Mercedes G Wagon, its paintwork shining like a black diamond in the low light coming from the house, with a big, red bow upon the bonnet.
“You did not buy me a Mercedes!!” you scream, beginning to bounce on the spot.
“I had to be held back from a Lamborghini,” he reveals, entertained greatly by your shocked excitement. “II quite rightly said you’d probably faint to see one of those upon the drive. Plus, German technology far exceeds that of Italian. This will also handle better in the snow than a sportscar.”
Your mouth is still hanging open, eyes like saucers, Ves and II exchanging looks as they fall apart laughing at your awe. “I can’t believe you bought me a bloody G Wagon!” you cry, turning to fling your arms around his neck. “I love it! Thank you so much!”
He wraps you in a tight hug, kissing atop your head. “You’re welcome, darling. Just remember it’s petrol, though, not diesel like your Mini.”
Emerging from his hug, you’re still shellshocked, looking to the front door to see III beaming at your reaction, too, all of them laughing as you double over with a long squeal of “No way, that’s my fucking car!” before floundering a little more.
“She’s too fucking cute!” III speaks warmly, Ves taking the keys from his pocket and handing them to you. Even though you feel a little jittery after your skirmish at the end of the driveway, the fact that the car is a 4x4 fills you with enough ease to jump in and take it for a drive around the village, II and III heading back inside while Ves plays passenger.
The G Wagon glides over the frozen ground like it’s on blades, but you still drive it cautiously, knowing of course that no vehicle is completely impervious to frozen ground. Making it back in one piece, you reverse it to park up outside of the large, double garage, climbing out and sinking once again into Ves’s embrace.
“You’ve spoiled me rotten,” you state, kissing his chest.
“I have, this is true. There are more surprises yet to come. You’re very much worth all of them, too.” Walking through the house, you both head into the kitchen, pausing to laugh at the hilarious sight of II and III both falling apart while watching Rick and Morty. Once there, you are furnished with a glass of wine, both of you then continuing on out of the side entrance and down the back corridor into the newly furnished sunroom. Such would be a deathtrap for vampires, if not for the Shadow Glass.
Hell, it almost was for you when you fell through the floor above and ended up sprawled out in there prior to it being renovated.
The space is very much leaning to dark academia in its decoration, black walls, dark floorboards and furniture, with a plethora of potted plants dotted around. You panicked that perhaps you might be tasked with their care, until Ves told you that the housekeeper who visits thrice weekly would see to their watering and pruning.
“So, run past with me again your plans for the next few days,” he requests. “You know I’m not the type to forget, but you did give me a hell of an amazing blowjob after you’d told me. I confess it scrambled my memory.”
For a creature who doesn’t forget, it truly must have been, and you laugh at his wink when you smile with pride at that. “I’m here now for the rest of the year almost, and Teddy will be here to meet you all on Christmas Eve as arranged. Then we’re having lunch at home on Christmas day before his dad comes to pick him up and take him over to Oxford until New Year.”
Teddy’s family arrangements for Christmas are always a matter of careful consideration, given that his parents are separated. He alternates each year between spending the holiday with his mum and stepdad, and with his dad and stepmum. This year, he will be with the latter, joining his father, Ian and stepmother, Louise for the festivities.
Typically, you would celebrate Christmas with your own mum and dad, but their decision to take a cruise this year left you with no set plans. Originally, you were meant to accompany Teddy to Wallingford, save being by yourself. However, with the recent change in your relationship status, those plans have naturally shifted.
While you’ll miss Ian’s amazing cooking and getting well and truly blitzed on Louise’s famously lethal cocktails, you’re very much looking forward to spending the day with your vampires. Especially when you happened to ask II what they actually did at Christmas to celebrate.
“Get absolutely fucking wankered.”
That’ll suit you. Christmas drunkenness seems to be standard, even in families that are far from it. It’s also something else you spent way too much money on, buying them each a suitable blood in order to give them their favourite level of inebriated. Apparently with alcohol, it can change the flavour of the blood, meaning the vampire imbibing it will be able to taste the subtle differences. As well as feel the effects in becoming drunk, of course.
With that in mind, you ordered mead blood for II, being that as a human he regularly drank large quantities of it, whiskey blood for III, and for Ves, who much prefers the feeling of high than drunk, magic mushroom blood. Your bank account and some of your savings took a battering, but they’re worth it.
You can hardly complain either, when you’ve just been presented with a two hundred-and seventy-thousand-pound car!
“And how much of the time you’ll be here are you planning on wearing clothes?” he asks smoothly, arching an eyebrow.
He’s filth, and you love it. It’s always more understated with Ves, though. “Not much,” you tease, licking your lip and placing your wine down, your tall vampire moving to kneel at your feet.
His hands glide up your thighs, grasping the elastic waistband of your leather leggings with a throaty grunt. “Could you perhaps start that now?”
You laugh against his lips, liking where this is heading. “Is somebody after a proper thank you for my Christmas gift?”
“Mm,” he hums. “He might be.” More heated kisses follow. “With the exception of the other’s rooms, we’re well on our way to Christening every room in the house.” His hands tug, taking your leggings and undies, pushing your thighs wide to slot himself further between them. “Might as well make the sunroom our next.”
“I’m completely on board with this idea.”
Your kisses catch fire then, your hands moving to unfasten his shirt, a tingle of pleasure sweeping over your skin to hear his aroused growl sound low in his throat. You have no idea how a simple noise alone gets you wet, but all three of them manage it. Ves finds that for himself, his fingers moving to gently trawl your petals, pulling from your kiss with a curious expression.
“There’s a lot less hair here than I remember?” Again, his eyebrow arches, and you love the character it gives his face whenever it does.
“Yeah, I got a wax today and my usual lady was off. The woman filling in is Estonian and she doesn’t speak much English. I think she misunderstood. I’m a bit bald now she’s ripped off my little ginger tuft!”
He throws his head back, laughing hard at your ginger tuft comment. “I’m not complaining at all. It’s very silky and soft. Mm, yeah. I like it.” He bites your lower lip softly, fingers sinking into you, and it sends your brain to buzzing bliss. “Might have to examine it closer.”
“Or,” you suggest, placing your hand beneath his chin and hauling him back up gently when he shifts a little lower. “You can watch me examine it?”
You’ve never seen eyes bleed red quite so quickly, Ves making an approving noise as you reach to spread yourself, pushing your fingers into his mouth with your other hand. Once he’s wetted them sufficiently, you bring them to your clit, slowly starting to rub in time with the slow, precise strokes of his fingers buried in the clutch of your walls.
His eyes flit between the beauty of your face, lips and cheeks flushed, mouth agape, your eyes burning with blue-green fire, and the sight of his fingers sinking back and forth, becoming wetter, wishing it was his tongue rubbing all over your clit. At the same time, though, he is in no rush to cease watching something so alluring as the sight of you touching yourself for him.
On instinct, he reaches for his trousers, unfastening his belt, the metallic sound of the buckle being undone sending a mist of heat up your spine, that warmth burning to full flame when he yanks it from the belt hooks, the leather snapping like a whip.
“Mmm, I fucking love it when you do that,” you moan, pulling him into a kiss of sugared embers, tongue swirling with his.
“I know,” he chuckles deeply, “that’s why I do it.”
Grasping his cock, he begins to stroke himself, and your eyes fall to watch him do it, his groans all sinful, baritone bliss in your ears. You bite your lip, your fingers rubbing a little faster, feeling yourself swell as your walls throb around the beautiful crook of his fingers, sparks crackling into life.
The plunging within you gains speed, and you’re panting, shaking, whimpering with delirious pleasure, both transfixed at the sight of one another lost to the dark eroticism of the moment. His fangs pop, your hand moving to run over his lips and down those two long, gleaming teeth, Ves retracting them, sucking your fingers into his mouth as he leaves your sopping core empty for only the time it takes to fill you around the shunt of his cock.
You gasp, twinging at being split so widely, little pin pricks of pain that merge with the divine pleasure of such heated thickness invading you, your plush pink stroked and thus your pleasure stoked, so hard, so deep within you.
Helpless, soft little exclamations flutter over your lips, his mouth stealing the sound with the heat of his kiss. Your hands glide over the breadth of his muscles, delighting in the delicious feel of him beneath your palms, your fingers exploring the dips between them. He pulls you closer to the edge of the sofa, your legs wrapping around his waist as your purr against his tongue.
He feels heavy within you, pressing into you so forcefully, drowning you in his consuming passion, his raw magnetism, everything about him imposing, but in such a way that he could pour into you forever and it’d never be enough.
You feel drunk on him completely, Ves locking his arms around you before lifting your body, letting you sink down onto his cock as your thighs bracket his hips, clenching on him a little as you stroke his hair and share more kisses of pure, erotic frenzy.
The hunger for him is unmatched, your body opened like a flower before the sun, drinking up the rays of warmth he gilds you with. Your hips roll into him, ensnaring his slippery length with each undulation, his hands grasping your rounded bum and hauling you closer, wanting to be within you deeper. His teeth graze your throat, his deep moans flowing from his mouth to yours when he kisses you again.
You swallow them back, your cunt hugging him in a series of strong flutters as you glide together so perfectly, you never want him to retreat. It’s hot, one hundred percent passion burning unchecked like a forest fire. The hunger that had been building is sated so thoroughly, you can feel him in your bones, nails raking down his neck, feeling both broken apart and mended by him all at once.
He bounces you on him, hand landing in a few hard smacks off your bum, his teeth nipping at your throat as you both propel towards the light, the burst of it gilding neon, drowning you in orgasmic brilliance.
“Happy?” he asks, clutching you to him, his cock still twitching within the clasp of your fluttering walls.
“Mmm,” you murmur against his neck, kissing his cool skin. “Very happy.”
“I think we only have the other lounge, laundry room and kitchen left.” he ponders, moving to look at you with a very suggestive wink. The last location is checked off that list before he finally untangles from you, allowing you to at least prepare yourself something to eat without entwining himself with you too much.
Not that it isn’t unwelcome, having a big, sexy vampire standing with his arms wrapped around you as you chop, fry and stir.
“I must say, I am very much looking forward to meeting Teddy,” he speaks as you both take a seat back in the sunroom, the air filled with the scent of pine candles you bought on your shopping trip, the soft swell of Celtic folk music playing quietly in the background. “You always speak of him with such reverence. I see clearly how important he is to you.”
Chewing through your mouthful of chicken stir fry, you swallow, washing it down with a sip of wine. “He’s looking forward to it, too. He’s really bloody nervous, though. He’s never met a vampire before.”
Ves smirks, perhaps looking a little too pleased with that information. True, he might be nice to you, and you don’t ever think he would be hostile to someone you care about as much as you do Teddy, but he is, after all, what he is.
“Tell Teddy he will be more than welcome in our home.”
You raise an eyebrow. “Are you going to behave? Because where I’m sitting, you look far too amused for my liking at that information.”
“Hmm.”
“Ves!” you warn, your vampire booming a laugh.
“No, no. I’ll behave.” he vouches with sincerity. “It’s III you’ll have to worry about. He’ll probably set him on edge with his usual shenanigans.”
Oh, god. You hadn’t factored his slightly unhinged playfulness into the equation, and he’ll sense it in Teddy, his nerves. He will know well he can poke a reaction from him. Twenty-four hours later, and you see for yourself that he doesn’t disappoint.
“Evening!”
No, that definitely was not the sight you were expecting upon III opening the front door to you and Teddy. Closing your eyes, your head falls into your hand, pinching the bridge of your nose. Why is he like this? Why, for the love of god, can’t he just be a normal vampire, whatever that happens to look like?
“Charlie, put your bloody clothes on!” you hiss, catching Teddy’s gaze as he stands awkwardly nearby, uncertain where to direct his eyes. Despite the embarrassment radiating from the situation, you notice that Teddy isn’t frightened; at least not visibly so. The anxiety that had been winding through him all day at the thought of spending an evening in the company of three vampires seems to have abated, replaced now by a mix of amusement and bewilderment at Charlie’s antics.
“I’m having a naked day!”
Teddy snorts with laughter into his hand, while you feel your embarrassment growing. “Get dressed. Now!”
“Why?” III teases, nodding at Teddy. “He seems to appreciate the view!” Your head falls into both hands then, shaking it, mortified by him. “Oh, come on, Gracie! Where’s your sense of humour? You’re always telling me I’ve got a nice cock. Might as well show it off a little, now you’re the only one who gets it in person!”
“You’ve shown it off enough!” you cry, pushing the door open and smacking him in the chest. “Get dressed!”
He tips his head back laughing, vanishing in a blink. Immediately, you turn to Teddy.
“Sorry.”
“Oh, don’t be!” he chirps. “You were right, he does have a nice cock. Lucky you!”
Incorrigible, the pair of them.
Heading into the lounge, you’re met by an amused II, who rises from the sofa. “Just so you know, we told him not to.” He then looks to Teddy and gives you the second surprise of your arrival, extending his hand. “Good to meet you. I’m II.”
His usual chill is in place, but you can see he’s trying at least not to be rude, for your sake. For that, you appreciate him hugely.
“I guessed,” Teddy reveals with a smile, shaking his hand, gesturing to his neck. “The Viking ink is a giveaway.”
“Mm, yeah,” he hums, turning to give you a kiss, III arriving back – thankfully in clothes - moving straight to Teddy and draping an arm around his shoulders.
“Well! Gracie didn’t make mention of the fact you’re sexy as fuck. Bloody hell!”
You rest your forehead to II’s shoulder, groaning. “I’m going to strangle him with silver!”
“That’s way too masochistic, even for my standards, Grace!” he chimes, beaming a massive grin right at Teddy, who is somewhere between entertained and embarrassed. “Do you want to come and see my cellar, Teddy? There’s loads of fun stuff down there I could show you!”
“Think I’ll give it a miss, III,” he replies, pointing at you. “Especially since Gracie here looks like she’s about to rupture her own spleen!”
“Or yours,” II adds, wrapping his arm around you, pressing a reassuring grasp to your waist as he nods at III. “Behave yourself now. Teddy looks like he’s about to pass out or piss laughing. I’m unsure which.”
The comically perturbed face he follows his statement with has your bestie laughing, III finally letting him go just as Ves enters. When Teddy sees him, his mouth instantly drops. Even if you didn’t find him physically attractive, that’s the effect he has on people. They instantly fall under the spell of his aura, the way he moves, commands focus.
He does happen to look extra mouthwatering this evening, too, dressed casually in a tight black vest and his standard loose-fitting trousers, a simple long, gold pendant finishing his look.
“Teddy,” he speaks warmly, surprising you by opening his arms and giving him a short hug of welcoming. “I’m Ves, and I’m thrilled to meet the man I’ve heard so many fantastic stories about. Mostly humorous.”
“Nice to meet you, too, Ves,” he speaks, “and what the hell has she been telling you about me? Please don’t say she mentioned the fiasco with the delivery driver and my Grindr hookup?”
Way to shoot yourself in the foot, Ted. “She didn’t, no,” Ves drawls, beckoning him in the direction of the kitchen, “but something tells me that’s a story I’d like to hear.”
The tone of the evening is set with levity, again something you find quite surprising, your vampires all putting in an effort to remain on the slightly warmer side of their usual stoicism. They still are not, by any stretch of the imagination, as animated and upbeat as humans, but they do at least make Teddy feel very welcome within their environment. That includes sating his thirst for knowledge, too.
“I feel like I have a million questions I want to ask, to someone who has been here as long as you have!” he speaks, his question aimed at Ves, who reaches with the bottle of rum and fills up his glass. The five of you have moved to the sunroom, the atmosphere warm and inviting with so many candles lighting the space. It gives a feeling of cosiness in a room still so sizeable.
“Ask away,” he replies, leaning back, resting his hand on your leg. You’re sitting curled up comfortably between him and II, the latter idly stroking your inner wrist, III seated beside Teddy, now much less revelling in rambunctious chaos than he was earlier in the evening.
He takes a moment to consider, leaning forward a little. “What was the world like, when you came to be? And do you know how you came about, exactly, also where and when?”
It’s a question he has explained so many times over the span of his long life, yet he never tires of telling it. “I once told Grace that I was as old as time itself, but in truth, I probably am not quite so ancient. It is difficult to estimate, but I was thrust into existence from what I can gauge, probably around fifty thousand years ago. Where? Right here in Europe.”
Teddy’s eyes almost fall out of his head, Ves continuing. “As for how the world was back then, quiet seems a fitting description. The world was swathed in a peace that humankind has long forgotten ever existed, or truly could understand was more harmonious than the greed driven machine that is humanity in this day and age.
“People were much simpler, not that I had very much to do with them beyond sating my own baser needs, for thousands of years before I began to integrate with them. I was a mere creature of the dark, one who became a fabled tale, a cautionary campfire story recited by the tribes and early civilisations, as all alpha vampires were back then. We were the monsters under the bed, the demons in the dark. Some still view us the same, and to be fair to them, a great number of us remain that way. Most, though, evolved, such as the three of us sitting with you now. My fourth offspring not so much, but for that he has his reasons.”
Indeed, you knew IV would remain elsewhere in the house. Being social is not his strong suit, and this of course Teddy knows well from what you’ve explained to him prior to his visit.
Teddy looks completely captivated by it all, sipping his rum, his eyes not leaving Ves for a second. “It’s all so flippin’ fascinating! Do you ever get bored, though? You know, you’ve been there, done that so many times over!”
Ves shakes his head. “Not really, no. Even at my age, I still find myself just as curious over this world I share with you all as I ever have been.”
“And you!” he then states, turning his focus to II. “You were a bloody Viking king!”
“I was,” he nods humbly.
“Did you know Ragnar Lothbrok? I watched that TV show based on his life, absolutely loved it!”
“Oh, bloody hell,” III groans at his side, waving his hands in a motion for him to stop, wincing. “Never mention Vikings around II!”
“You too would share my ire if such a show was created about your people with so many historical inaccuracies!” he states, sitting a little taller. “And no, Teddy. Ragnar was around about a hundred years before my time.”
“There’s ire and then there’s you, sitting there ranting on and fucking on while I was trying to watch it! ‘That’s wrong! We never did that! Those clothes are not what we wore!’ On and fucking on he went, ruined it for me!” III continues, his arms waving around with his usual broken puppet animation.
The laughter that bursts from the group is immediate and knowing of II’s general disposition, the kind that ripples through the candles’ glow and seems to settle everyone more comfortably into one another’s company. Teddy, undeterred by III’s recounting, grins cheekily and leans in, elbows on knees, as if gearing up for another round of questions or stories. There’s a sense, in this moment, of barriers lowering, of the strangeness of your little found family somehow blending seamlessly with Teddy’s easy warmth and unwavering curiosity, the old and the new colliding in a way that feels perfectly right.
Yet as you sit there, so comfortable among your three dead men and closest friend, you still question whether this is the future you desire for yourself. While it has only been just shy of three months, knowing them, fitting into their world as they in turn make themselves at home in yours, the thought of this ending leaves you short of breath. Equally, though, a future not unfolding how you’d envisioned it, one that includes motherhood, for instance, also brings feelings of equal anxiety.
These questions, it seems are not solely confined to your mind, either.
“Jesus wept, that’s a right old jungle down there,” Teddy comments, shivering a little as he pulls his coat around himself, lighting up the spliff he’s been gifted by II.
“Yeah, we’re not much for gardening,” he agrees, lighting up his own, Teddy looking confused. “Vampires can get high, still, if we imbibe the blood of those who were intoxicated while giving it. Same as alcohol. III and I add that dried blood to regular weed, even though he partakes more than I.”
“Ahh,” he nods, looking back down at the garden.
A silence stretches between the pair, Teddy feeling relaxed, coughing slightly as the weed smoke tickles the back of his throat, not expecting the statement that eventually comes from II.
“If I may be so candid with you, Teddy,” he begins, taking a seat on the step, Teddy following suit. “What do you, as Grace’s closest friend, think our chances of her accepting our proposal are?”
There’s a touch of something a little vulnerable there within the ancient Viking king, and it catches Teddy off guard, surprised greatly by the question posed to him. “Honestly, II, I don’t know.” Another fortifying drag upon the spliff is taken, a large cloud exhaled into the dark, cold night. “I know she adores you all. Well, maybe not IV, but he hasn’t given her much reason to. You three, though, I think if she made the choice to turn you down in favour of the life she’d planned, it’d break her heart. She always did want to have children, though.”
II sniffs, sighing softly. “Trust me, she is the only woman who has stirred within me the long-gone desire to procreate. If I could give her babies, she would be carrying my child by now. I tended not to hesitate on that front, when I was human.” He turns to look at Teddy, his gaze narrowed slightly. “Trust me when I say I wouldn’t, even now, with how I feel about your friend.”
A little glimmer flickers in Teddy’s chest. “And how do you feel about her?”
The vampire smiles, his magnetic eyes looking out over the entangled wilderness below, pausing a few moments. “She lights up my existence like a beacon, just for being her. Grace is the perfect blend of strength and a truly beautiful person, both outside and in. The way she reveres even the tiniest of creatures touches me.
“For example, she lost her temper at our housekeeper the other evening, who was attending to her duties late. Poor Fiona made the grave mistake of attempting to suck up a giant house spider into the vacuum, and Grace admonished her suitably for it. Had me drag out the sofa where he’d run off to hide beneath so she could pick him up. She then sat there cooing at him while he scampered over her hands.”
Teddy smiles, yet with a shudder of discomfort at the thought. “She's the chief spider catcher in our house, doesn’t even use a glass! Just scoops them up, tells them how pretty they are and lets them outside. You’re right, that is something very lovely about her. One of my ex-boyfriends smashed a bee with a newspaper once, and Grace was so pissed off she punched him in the stomach for it!”
II snorts, his laughter filling the space. “That sounds very much like something she would do.”
“You still didn’t answer my question, though,” Teddy then speaks, II looking at his feet for a moment.
“I think perhaps she is the one who needs to hear it first, how I feel.” A short silence swells before the vampire continues. “I will tell her, when the moment is right.”
Your friend reads it well, knowing that II’s confession into how he feels about you will likely only come once you’ve made up your mind over how you intend to proceed with him, with all of them. Watching the way you interact so seamlessly with them, your fondness reciprocated with all three, Teddy truly can’t see how you’d ever refuse such an offer, but he also knows you of old, and knows that babies were always part of your plan.
Whatever you decide, though, he simply hopes you’ll be happy. A part of him remained quite guarded over your place within the home of the vampires who first brought you there against your will, but as the evening moves along, he sees it clearly. You adore them, and they you. It isn’t a conventional set up by any means, but neither is life, really. What you have with them has built rapidly, but he sees the strength there already forging with strong roots, a connection of fluidity, respect and mutual trust.
Well, for three of them, at least. The fourth remains a mystery even to you and those closest to him over when – or if at all – his frost will ever thaw. As Christmas day approaches, though, the hands of fate move the pieces in their required directions where a resolve is due. Perhaps in a way nobody more so than you could ever imagine witnessing, too.
