Thank you for your concern. I can assure you: noone was harmed by our black tucker-cosplay nore did we get spoken out to by anyone on the convention. We didn't insult anyone or made fun of anyone or anything happening in history. And since we are Germans we now about a shady past and history, trust me. Otherwise we would feel offended by any germany or prussia hetalia cosplay due to our nazi-past, but guess what? We don't. So yeah, anyone can respectfully cosplay ANYONE they want to i think.
Just because someone didn’t call you out on it doesn’t mean it’s not offensive. They might have felt too uncomfortable to say anything, or depending on where the convention was, it might not be as much of a controversial topic.
Particularly in the US where racism towards blacks is shockingly brutal, aggressive and fatal, shockingly blackface is very, very offensive.
I didn’t say that the cosplay was intentionally racist, I understand the intentions were of homage and out of respect, but the execution was poor. Blackface is racist and that doesn’t change anything. Just like Prussia hetalia cosplay may be offensive (honestly I don’t know what that is so I cannot tell) as is blackface, no matter if YOU are offended or not.
It’s like the f-slur, or the n-word or anything of the like.
You have to also understand that if you’re posting the picture on the web, where everyone everywhere can that SOMEONE will take offense, and as it happens, I took offence which is why I called y’all the fuck out.
If you had read my addition to the post, you’d understand that using it holds all that history whether youre making fun of its history or not.
Finally, “anyone can respectfully cosplay ANYONE” - There is nothing respectful about using blackface.
