Today we made yet another visit to @delwatergapnps in #NewJersey. We explored the area around Buttermilk Falls and drove along Old Mine Road to Van Campen's Inn, a fieldstone residence that was used as a "yaugh house." A "yaugh house" was a house that provided shelter and food to travelers. This Georgian structure was built sometime around 1746 by the Rosenkrans family. It also included a now extant kitchen wing which was torn down in 1917 (scarring is visible on the left side of the structure). In 1754, the property was sold to Isaac Van Campen. Isaac Van Campen was a member of the Continental Congress. The structure was heavily restored in the 1980s and is open for tours by @walpackhistory. #nj #njhistory #SpreadTheHistory #nps #nps101 #goparks #nationalpark #nationalparks #nationalparkservice #goparks #americanhistory #nationalparkgeek #travelblog #travelblogger #explore #blog #blogger #beautiful #FYPyes #njspots #delawarewatergap #explorenj #OptOutside #FindYourPark #vancampeninn #oldmineroad #georgian #architecture #archi_ologie (at Layton, New Jersey)
