Millington station in the #Millington section of Long Hill Township, #NewJersey. The station is of stone-masonry construction with Richardsonian elements built in 1901 by the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad. Today, it houses the Millington Station Cafe. In 1984, it was listed in the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and @nationalregisternps as part of the Operating Passenger #Railroad Stations Thematic Resource. eisenhower.nps is located in Cumberland Township, #Pennsylvania, adjacent to the Gettysburg Battlefield. This site preserves the home and farm of Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States, and its surrounding property of 690 acres. The property was purchased by then-General Eisenhower and his wife Mamie in 1950. The farm served as a weekend retreat for the President and a meeting place for world leaders, and became the Eisenhowers' home after they left the White House in 1961. The property has a putting green, skeet range, and view of South Mountain and the Gettysburg Battlefield. It was also a successful cattle operation, with a show herd of black Angus cattle. Some of the more notable of Eisenhower's guests were Premier Nikita Khrushchev of the Soviet Union, President Charles de Gaulle of France, and former Prime Minister Winston Churchill of Britain. The Eisenhowers donated their home and farm to the @NationalParkService in 1967, with lifetime living rights for the former president. Two years later, Eisenhower died at the age of 78. Mamie Eisenhower rejected the idea of moving to Washington to be closer to family and friends and, with Federal permission, lived on the farm until her death in 1979. The Peter D. Smith House at Waterloo Village in Byram, #NewJersey. Built in 1874, this massive three-story home features a fourth floor cupola, four chimneys, and two projecting bay windows on the first floor. It was built by Peter D. Smith, son of Peter Smith. Born in 1845, Peter D. worked in the family store and mills at Waterloo, along the Morris Canal. In 1874, Peter and his brother Seymour bought the store and mills from their brother Samuel. The Baker–Duderstadt #farmhouse, built in the early twentieth century, in Warren Township, #NewJersey. The property was continuously farmed by members of the Baker-Duderstadt family for almost 150 years. The Baker family immigrated to America in the early 1840s from Germany. In 1998, the property was deeded to Somerset County as open space. The grounds are also host to the Baker–Duderstadt barn built in the mid-nineteenth century, a modern cinder block storage shed, a nineteenth century corn crib, and a large banked barn that was built in the twentieth century. The property was added to the @nationalregisternps in 2008. A German half-timbered #barn at the Baker–Duderstadt Farm in Warren Township, #NewJersey. The barn was built in the mid-nineteenth century and features a #Jerkinhead roof. The barn is significant as a rare Mid-Atlantic example of German construction featuring Fachwerk and a Liegenderstuhl roof truss. This type of construction was more common in German settlements in Wisconsin, Texas, and Missouri and there are no other known examples surviving in New Jersey. The property was continuously farmed by members of the Baker-Duderstadt family for almost 150 years. The Baker family immigrated to America in the early 1840s from Germany. The Southern Mansion in Cape May, #NewJersey. This home was built in 1863 for Philadelphia industrialist, George Allen. It was designed by the internationally acclaimed architect Samuel Sloan, and constructed by Henri Phillipi. This seaside palace was used by Allen and his descendants as a country estate for the next 83 years. The visible remains of the sunken concrete ship the S.S. Atlantus at Sunset Beach in Lower Township, #NewJersey. It was one of twelve experimental concrete ships built during and after World War I. During a storm the ship broke loose from its moorings and ran aground in June 1926.
