One Step Closer

There were many things Clark was confident in. He was confident in his ability to write. He was confident in his ability to execute a rear naked choke or a flying triangle in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He was even confident that he was doing his best to raise his daughter, even if he felt that his efforts were woefully inadequate.

But dating? He’d never been Mr. Smooth in that regard. Even meeting Jennifer had been achieved through friends. Yet here he was, preparing to take his co-star out for dinner on Valentine’s Day because he had something he needed to tell her. He was pretty honest by nature and Ming deserved to know the whole truth.

She deserved to know that he was in love with her.

After dropping Stella over at Chloe’s apartment for a “lady’s sleepover”, he collected his wits as well as the flowers he’d purchased for Ming and got into his car, heading over to her apartment. He’d made reservations at one of Vancouver’s most exclusive Chinese restaurants. The reviews said it was delicious and authentic and he chose it because it would be a quiet place to say everything that was on his mind.

Ming. The one who can always make me smile, even when I reaaaaally don’t feel like it. My life would be empty without you and I don’t say that lightly. Things…haven’t been easy for me with losing Jen and trying to raise Stella on my own. But even when we had our first meeting after getting hired to do “Agents of Shield”, I found myself laughing and actually looking forward to something for the first time in a couple years at that point. That was all because of you. I guess it’s pretty appropriate that the first person to make me laugh so hard I was crying since the death of my wife…is also the first person that I’ve come to love since then. You mean the world to me and even though I’m fucking terrified that I could lose you too…I can’t keep things back any more. You’ve got me, hook, line and sinker for as long as you want me.
