Important question! Do you like Jumin?

Of course I like Jumin! He’s hilarious, weirdly sweet for being kind of an idiot, and yeah he needs a bit of course correction vis a vis the “how he treats Jaehee... and you... and other people” department but if someone takes the time to explain it to him using a kind of logic he can understand he responds really well. It’s goofy and cute that he is so precise in his measurements and how things have to be but it also suggests to me that he’s a.) not neurotypical and b.) never really had anyone to seriously discuss these tendencies with so he’s just doing everything he can to cope, to succeed, to soar beyond what the world is demanding from him because its just what he thinks a responsible person does. My heart bleeds for him - he’s got all these pressures and all these people screaming at him and nobody really gets that he's not just a rich asshole, he’s a poor traumatized boy who basically lost both of his best friends recently and he has no idea how to talk about his emotions in a way that other people can understand.

Nor was he ever allowed to even try.

OH UH YEAH AND ONE??? MORE THING??? LIKE the whole SHIT with all the women who creeped on him as a literal child?? Jumin Han canonically went through sexual harassment because of how “”handsome”” he was, harassment his father remained completely oblivious too, and now he has the entire country screaming about how he’s such a handsome ~ wonderful ~ rich eligible bachelor. can you even imagine how lonely and awful and isolating that is?How gross Jumin Han has to feel from day to day, how he not only doesn’t have the space to discuss his feelings about it but he also has so many people CELEBRATING the aspects of himself that lead to his trauma?

and he’s just. he’s just gotta deal? so he drowns himself in work and because he’s always drowned himself in work he thinks that’s just how normal people are? and it makes people hate him because they see him as just being rich and privileged, not the extremely hard working person he is...?

i have a LOT of feelings about Jumin Han. I actually had some gin and went on and on about him here in the context of Jumin Han and asexual headcanons, and there’s also some more here.

I went back and reread some of your Jumin rants, which I absolutely loved, btw, as a certified Jumin stan lol, and I think you really captured why I hate Jumin's BE2 so much and the fandom's approach to it. In one of those linked rants you state "Jumin needs understanding, not sex." and I think that really encompasses why it's a bad ending in the first place, one that specifically plays to the misconceptions people have of him. And the fandom worships that ending, and that's so unfair to Jumin.

It’s a Jumin that feels as if he can’t have a sweet, pure, innocent and loving romance. It’s an ending where you taught him that it’s something he’ll never be able to have. Bad Ending 2 is a timeline where Jumin has finally given up on his desire for true love and understanding and has decided his route to happiness is playing along with all the shit he’d spent the rest of his life fighting against. This Jumin that thinks the people who wanted to possess him were right after all, and if he wants your happiness and safety and love then he needs to possess you.

And, uh, given one of his Day 2 calls...

...I really don’t think he wants an ending like that either.
