FR : Donc, on dirait bien que les princesses reviennent pour une 3ème saison. :) Me concernant, ce tumblr est au repos, et je n'ai hélas pas le temps de le ressusciter, donc ne vous attendez pas à beaucoup de billets ni de réponses. En revanche, je vais en donner l'accès à des gens qui travaillent sur la saison 3. Peut-être que quelqu'un reprendra le flambeau. ;) Croisez les doigts avec moi.

Ok, some of you might have noticed that (in)famous LoliRock director Jean-Louis Vandestoc posted a few interesting things on his instagram account...
So, while I don't know much, it seems there might be talk of an incoming LoliRock season 3, at long last !
Let's cross fingers that director Vandestoc will have the support to make something great... again. ;)
Note : I know some of you guys still follow this tumblr, and while it's great I don't have the time to update it anymore, so don't expect much from it. I suggest you follow Mr.Vandestoc instagram for fresh news.
Last Saturday (July 11th), the first episode of the show (Ep. 101 – “To find a Princess”) was broadcasted again in France
It’s a good opportunity to go back in time and see how the show was born.
Soooo… “LoliRock”… where does it come from ? First of all, let’s go back into childhood. My childhood, back in the 80s.
I was just a child, watching whatever animation was broadcasted on French channels. I was amazed and filled with wonder thanks to shows such as Myazaki’s Sherlock Holmes (Meitantei Hōmuzu), Cobra Space Adventure (Space Kobura), The Mysterious Cities of Gold (Taiyō no ko Esuteban), or Dragon Ball… but there was one, above all, that made me want to work on animation : Magical Princess Minky Momo, alias “Gigi” in France.
I loved the very core of it : a child transforming into an adult, helping people and making good deeds, the nice chara design, and finally the tone of the show : it could be funny and light, but also dramatic and tearful at other times. My soul was marked forever.
A “few” years later, I became a director on Monter Buster Club and Rekkit Rabbit. Then I had the opportunity to create my own Magical Girl show, with our French touch : this would become LoliRock !
Sailor Moon and Pretty Cure have been our main references : we wanted a united group of girlfriends who always help each other no matter what. Jem and the Holograms was another reference, for the musical part and career obviously.
However the thing I wanted to put into the show, above all, was the strong and positive values that I loved in Minky Momo. With the best animation quality that we could have.
To take up this challenge, gathering a “Dream Team” of professional, talented and dedicated people was mandatory. It’s a thing I can repeat forever : creating a show is like working in a hive, or an anthill maybe ? Everybody works together in the same direction, from design to storyboard, from animation to dubbing, from organisation to music. As a director, you need all these people around you, following you, and putting their soul into it. And when all the pieces of the puzzle come together like that- which is what happened on LoliRock, you know you’re part of something special

Anyway, I’d like to thanks once again my team, both the french people at Marathon but also all the malaysian people at Inspidea. This project wouldn’t have become what it is without all of you guys !

Salut les fans, ici Jean-Louis (réal dévoué & princesse à mi-temps)
Ce samedi 11 juillet a été rediffusé l’épisode 101 – L’audition (”To Find a Princess” dans son titre original), pilote de la série.
C’est une bonne occasion pour revenir un peu sur l’origine de la série.
Donc… LoliRock… D’où est venue cette série ? Retour en enfance, mon enfance, dans les années 80…
A cette époque, j’avais été émerveillé par des séries d’animation telles que Sherlock Holmes (Meitantei Hōmuzu), Cobra (Space Kobura / Cobra Space Adventure), Les Mystérieuses Citées d’Or (Taiyō no ko Esuteban) ou encore Dragon Ball… mais LA série qui m’a donné envie de travailler dans l'animation est sans nul doute « Minky Momo », ou « GiGi » pour les intimes en France!
J’avais adoré le concept : la transformation en adulte, devoir faire des bonne actions, le design super cool (pour l'époque) et enfin le ton capable d’être à la fois léger par moment, capable de vous arracher des larmes à d’autre. J’étais marqué pour de bon.
“Quelques” années plus tard, et après avoir réalisé deux autres séries, Monster Buster Club et Rekkit, j’ai finalement eu la chance de pouvoir proposer ma version d'un Magical Girl, à la française : LoliRock !
Les références principales étaient assez évidemment Sailor Moon et Pretty Cure : je voulais un groupe d’amies qui sont toujours là les unes pour les autres, peu importe les épreuves qu’elles traversent. Jem et les Hologrammes était aussi une importante référence, pour l’aspect musical de la série, notamment la gestion de la carrière et célébrité de l’héroïne.
Mais je voulais surtout mettre dans ce projet ce que j’avais adoré dans GiGi et les autres séries que j’ai pu regarder, à commencer par les valeurs positives très fortes : amitié, entre-aide, courage, honnêteté, etc. Et bien sûr, avec la meilleure qualité d’animation possible.
Pour espérer réussir ce pari ambitieux, il fallait rassembler une “Dream Team”, une équipe de choc, car, je ne le répéterai jamais assez : une série c’est comme une ruche. Ou une fourmilière. On travaille tous ensemble pour la même cause, du design au storyboard en passant par l’animation, le montage, le doublage, la musique etc ! En tant que réalisateur, pour obtenir un bon résultat à la fin, vous avez besoin que toutes ces personnes travaillent main dans la main, et jour après jour. Meilleure est l’équipe, et meilleur est le résultat final ! Et à ce niveau-là, j’ai eu beaucoup de chance d’avoir été entouré ces dernières années par des gens tous plus talentueux et passionnés les uns que les autres. :)
