Masked lapwing (Vanellus miles miles), family Charadriidae
The masked lapwing counts two subspecies: the nominate species, depicted here, and Vanellus miles novaehollandiae, which has black markings on the shoulders and chest. The black-marked subspecies is sometimes treated as a separate species, the black-shouldered lapwing.
