was rewatching ITH and decided to write a little fic because yk-motivation

type-angst??i guess :)

Vanessa Lost

I stood,frozen to my feet as the lights blazed different colours.I felt dizzy from being spun around,a mix of dinner and alchohol making me feel sick.I looked around as everyone continued to dance and my head pounded,my vision blurring a little.

I shook my head and began to walk in the direction of the bar,my heels making a click-clack against the floor.The club was like an oven,and it was jam-packed with people.

“Excuse me..”I muttered as I squeezed myself through the crowd.

“Ay,Vanessa!”I heard someone yell,but it was too loud for me to see who.

Suddenly,the lights went out,and everything was dark.

“Oye,que paso?!”shouted someone in the crowd.My head spun as I heard people scream.Someone shoved me and I toppled over into the crowd.

“Blackout!Blackout!”yelled a man.”No shit,Sherlock.”I thought to myself.What had happened?

“Vino el apagon,ay díos..”shouted a woman melodically.

The whole club was frantic as people waved torchlights.I thought of Abuela Claudia in the apartment..she meant so much to the barrío,but was she alright?

“Usnavi?”I yelled at the top of my lungs through the din of everyones manic yelling.

I heard him faintly shout my name and shook my head.Too far away.He shouted my name again and I yelled back as I pushed through the crowd.

Thousands of pops sounded as someone set off fireworks.I looked up at them and smiled.At least there was lights…

Where the hell was Usnavi?Or anyone?

I caught a glimpse of him and rushed up,pent-up anger and frustration in my voice.He left me!In a hot club,full of randomers who just wanted to get with me for my body!

“Usnavi!”I yelled,frustration in my voice.

“Yeah,Vanessa!”he spun around and I walked towards him.

“You abandoned me!”I spat,justafiably upset.He had just left me there!

“Yo-What are you talking about?”he asked me as I began to walk away,my hair swaying in the cool night breeze.

“Usnavi,all night-you barely even danced with me!”I muttered as I stormed off,shoes clicking against the pavement.

He cut in front of me,looked me dead in the eye.

“Dont make me laugh!I’ve been trying all night!You’ve been shaking your ass for like half of the Heights!”he responds.

I shake my head.So he was exactly like all those other boys,who say shit like that.I’m an idiot for thinking any different.

“Real nice.”I shoot back,poison in my tone.

“You barely gave me a chance all evening!”he retorts.

“What?”I yell.He’s the one going off with that girl,and he pulls that shit!

“Do I get another dance?”he asks me hopefully.

“Im leaving.”I shoot back as I begin walking away.My hair blows in the wind and although I’m frustrated and upset,I have the power.

“Vanessa!”he calls after me,drawing out the E as I keep my eyes ahead.

“I gotta go!”I yelled,my voice staying steady.No matter how much I-If I-loved him,I wasnt going go crack.

“Dont walk away from us tonight.”he yells.Oh,really nice.Who is us?Its just me and him now,the world spinning as we argue.

“I dont need anything tonight.”I mutter,as I begin to walk back to him,up close and personal.

“I can find my way home.”I shoot at him,up in his face.I didnt care if I was being rude,but on the inside I was hurt,and he was too.

“Keep running away from home.”

“Without you!Without you!”

On my furious walk home,my fingers cross a piece of pink ribbon.I pull more and more out and stuff it in my hand,brain flooded with ideas.

As I reach my apartment I sit down at my desk,my face and desk illuminated by my crappy phone torch.I furiously scribble designs upon designs,nimbly tie bows with my fingers and I smile to myself.Maybe this blackout and argument had its upside.

I tried to push Usnavi and all thoughts of him from my mind as I distracted myself with my work.

And I resent him until I hear the news.

And my heart breaks for him.

Abuela Claudia’s heart gave out.

The barrío lights up candles,and we raise them to the sky as we sing.I walk alongside Benny,who’s heart breaks for Nina.

“Alabanza..Alabanza Abuela Claudia..”

We gather outside the door and as I look into Usnavi’s tear stained face I cannot feel angry.He stares out on everyone singing Claudia’s praise and shows no signs of happiness.Just pure pain.

We meet eyes for a minute and he looks away.My heart feels like a porcelain statue that has been dropped from the Empire State.He turns away and I shake my head.

We lower our torches and I give a silent prayer to Abuela Claudia.I pray that she went in peace,and that the De La Vega’s and Rosario’s are really,truly okay.

Vansnavi being the main couple instead of Benina actually worked really well! I was a bit sad we saw less of Nina, but Vanessa being developed as well as her relationship with Usnavi made up for it.

All of these moments of everyone just being a family,,, Claudia watching them and dying peacefully because she doesn't need to take care of them anymore, not when they all have each other

the flicker of warm candlelight illuminated the tiny room. it had seemed romantic at the moment, even brought a smile to her lips but you thought soon after that it was probably a fire hazard. 

that thought swiftly vanished when Vanessa pushed you back onto the makeshift bed. now, the other woman sat straddling your hips. gentle hands brushing delicately over sensitive skin. the sweet aroma of lavender filters through the air. locks of deep chestnut almost black frame a beautiful face. leaning forward, she settles a kiss upon and you reach up to pull her closer; brushing your thumb across her cheeks. relishing in the feeling of her lips against yours. it was new. it was exciting. she was everything you wanted in the moment if not more. pulling away just slightly, Vanessa makes her way down to your neck; the tantalising warmth spilling throughout your body. lips part as she ever so slightly presses her teeth into your skin earning herself a hearty sigh. but as a loud bang sounds off, her teeth drive just a little too hard catching you completely off guard. your first instinct is to get away from the source, so you shove her back a little.

"the fuck Vanessa?"

"Sorry," half a grin settles on her lips, clearly a little amused. "I wasn't expecting the banging,"

"you live next to a train track," you huff, "you should be used to loud noises,"

"that's different." bang. bang. bang. "what is that?"

"I think it's the door."

"Are you expecting someone?" Vanessa quirks a brow, her grin growing into a very obvious smirk. "didn't know you were into that."

"shut up," a roll of your eyes but you can't help but giggle a little. "maybe if we're quiet they'll go away."

still, on your back, Vanessa remains seated on top of you. trying to stay as quiet as possible. watching the dim orange light dance against her bare skin. then you lock eyes and she breaks out into a grin. you've been seeing Vanessa for a while now and things were going well, or at least you thought they were. but this was the first time you'd ever had her alone and naked in your bedroom. it had been fine until someone decided to show up unannounced. you had no clue who it was, you hadn't invited anyone over for a reason. snaking a hand up her thighs and towards her hips, you poke her sharply in the side. her body jerks away bringing a matching smile to your lips and before she can expect it, you repeat the action on the other side. Vanessa squirms on top of you, playfully slapping your hands away. "stop it," she whispers yells.'

"Maybe they've left?" but as if summoned by your words, the banging continues.

"maybe we should answer it?"

"go ahead," Vanessa's brows furrow at your suggestion.

"ay- no." she protests. "I'm naked,"

"I'm sure they'll appreciate the view as much as me," a playful tone paired with a smirk to distract her as you poke her again. fed up, the girl grabs your arms and pins you to the bed.

"stop," her whiny voice so strongly contrasted the position of power she was currently in. "it's your apartment, you go."

"let go of me then," you feel her grip begin to relax but then tighten again.

"don't poke me,"

"I won't I swear," you insist, "can't answer the door if you keep me here."

"fine," with a heavy sigh, the other woman lets go and proceeds to climb off you. grabbing the clothes scattered on the floor, you head to the door.

bang. bang. bang. bang. "I'm coming, calm down." pulling it open, you're met with... benny standing in a dark hallway, a six-pack in hand. Nina pops her pretty head out soon after. you offer a smile but she's anything but happy. "hey-"

"can't answer your phone," Nina scolds, breezing past you. "or the door- you had everyone worried."

"come on in, I guess." you hum softly. "what happened?"

"blackout," benny answers still stood in the hallway, you usher him inside. "you didn't notice? is Vanessa here?"

"uh..." a blackout? that's it. you would have thought someone died with the way they were knocking. you nod a little. "yeah she is."

"so neither of you bothered to answer us then," Nina continued. you were both grown adults, why was she so mad? you're capable of looking after yourself. and so is Vanessa. you understand a little concern but this was like you were a child being scolded for not doing as you were told. another knock so you return to the door but this time usnavi is on the other side.

"Why are you all here?" you wonder. since when had your place become the safe zone? "instead of Abuela's or something?"

"We were there," he explains as he breezes past. guess you were entertaining guests now. "came to check on you,"

"seems irresponsible to be out and about at night in this," you reply. "so whose really at fault here?"

"you," Nina states. 

usnavi slaps a sympathetic hand on your shoulder. "nice try."

"fine, sorry I was-" words cut short by a scream followed by the slamming of doors. suddenly you were very aware of the fact you left Vanessa alone waiting and benny had disappeared. the three of you spring into action, waking further inside you spy benny standing against the now-closed bedroom door. both hands covering his eyes. you almost want to laugh when you realise what must have happened.

"I just saw a.... very naked Vanessa." benny tells you all slowly sounding utterly traumatized by the whole ordeal. he’s probably playing it up but you imagine it was certainly a shock.

"fuck," pushing benny aside, you knock a few times to alert her before slipping through a small crack in the door. the girl is now back in bed, covers held up to protect her modesty. you offer a wide, sympathetic grin. "you okay?"

"what the actual fuck," Vanessa growled. "thought you were getting rid of them, not inviting them for tea."

"I know, I'm really sorry," you pout a little as you walk closer to her, "they kinda barged in, I can't just kick them out."

"fuck you too,"

you're taken back by her indifference. "why are you mad?"

"I don't know, why am I mad?" sarcastic Vanessa was not a fun Vanessa at least now when it was directed at you.

"they came all this way to check on us, it'd be rude."

"'kay, whatever."

you sigh a little to yourself then take a seat at the end of the bed. "Vanessa..."

"What?" she grumbled.

"it's just one night, it's not a big deal"

"yeah, and it was supposed to be about us. didn't know Benny was a part of that."

"Are you just upset that benny saw you naked?" you chuckle a little

"it's not funny,"

"it's a little funny," crawling up the bed, you come face to grumpy face with her. "I'm sorry, okay? I'll make it up to you." you risk a slow lean in to give her every chance to push you away but she doesn't. "promise."

"you better," she whispers against your lips.

"I will," you declare, stealing another kiss.

"So what's happening exactly? why are they here?"

"blackout," you explain, shrugging your shoulders as you vacate the bed. picking up a stray t-shirt, you toss it at the girl. "so get dressed,"

"that's it?" she grabs the shirt. "stupid."

you don't know what to say to that since you actually agree but they were your friends so it was in its own way very sweet. "benny brought beer- don't take forever." leaving Vanessa to get dressed, you slip out of the room and back to your friends. they had now decided to take up space on your couch; benny sat on the armrest. "she'll be out in a minute."

"I didn't mean to walk in on her."

"don't even worry about," a dismissive wave of your hand although you didn't really have the authority to make such a remark. he should be apologising to Vanessa. if only a moment later, the girl exits the bedroom in a pair of sweats you don't remember owning but sat low on her hips and her shirt. all eyes fall on her and an awkward little smile takes over her lips. "hey,"

there's an awkward pause. nobody knows what to do or say. should you bring up what happened? stay silent? change the topic? your gaze drifts between everyone taking up space in your moderate size apartment; although it was starting to look a little crowded with five people in the living room. thankfully usnavi is there to break the tension.

"so you two-"

"let's not," Vanessa huffs brushing past you. "I heard there was beer."
