gabe being on stage for this scene was genuinely so gut wrenching i had to take a break

This scene was so interesting. He was realizing what he did. He was realizing “I hurt my mom”. He didn’t want her dead. He wanted to help. He didn’t know his “helping” was actually harmful. He wanted her to be with him forever without her having to hurt all the time. Because in order for him to be there, she had to be hurting. He didn’t want her to hurt anymore. That’s the way I interpreted it, anyway. Then again I am the number one Gabe lover.

This is also why I SO strongly prefer Jack’s version of Gabe to Aaron’s. I love Aaron Tveit but to me, Gabe is not a villain. At least not on purpose. He does incredibly harmful things (worsening Diana’s mental state by existing, encouraging her to not take her meds, etc etc) but Jack’s version (to me) doesn’t do it out of malice or wanting her to get worse. He does it because he thinks “this is how I help mom. This is how I support her”. Not to say that Gabe is unaware that his actions of harmful, I fully believe he knows, but he thinks it’s for the better in the end.

In “i dreamed a dance” he was fully ready and willing to leave, to let her let go, he knew that was the right option but he didn’t take it because he thought there was a better option, one where he and mom can be together always. And as I said earlier: he regretted it when he saw what he did. The way he looked at his hands, the way he tried to literally wipe the blood off his hands, he panicked, he cried, he mourned.

Anyway. Just normal thoughts to be having at 1:55 am when I should be doing my urban studies final.
