Hundreds Of Vanilla Reloads That Will Never Be Purchased At Office Depot
Hundreds Of Vanilla Reloads That Will Never Be Purchased At Office Depot
I miss the days where you could walk into Office Depot, pick up a $500 vanilla reload cards and pay with your shiny Ink card, and then walk out 2500 Ultimate Reward points richer. It’s sad to say that those days are long gone.
Frequent Miler had posted a few articles about the return of Vanilla Flavors to Office Depot. A follow up post was done, about how you can no longer purchase them with a credit card.
I decided that I would head out to a few of my local Office Depots and try the old charm on a few of the cashiers.
I went to two different stores in the greater Chicago area with the hope that I could find a store that hadn’t implemented the new cash only policy.
The first store I went to was just off of the Kennedy Expressway on Ohio Street. I got there right when they opened, hoping I would have a staff that was super tired from a wild night of partying and that they would just not care. If any message did pop up they would just override it. I struck out… as I was looking at the rack a lady walked past me and said “Just so you know these are cash only.” I just said “Are you sure”, the only response I got was “Yap.”
My second plan was to go just a few minutes before closing, in hopes that I could find them in such a rush to get everyone out of the store that it could slide through. I picked up one Vanilla Reload and headed to the register. The cashier scanned it for $500 and when I took out my card she said “I better check with my manager” she called over the manager who also said “cash only.”
The manager did say when they got all of the Vanilla Cards back; they were sent with a memo that they were to only take cash for them.
It’s honestly too bad, because I don’t see many, if any, people purchasing these cards. I mean why would you, if you weren’t getting those 5x points. It was nice while it lasted.

Make Sure It Is A Real CVS Before Driving Out Of The Way
Make Sure It Is A Real CVS Before Driving Out Of The Way
This is just a quick post. I was out visiting a Costco and Matt wanted to make a Vanilla run to CVS. I figured I would pick a few up, so I had him type in CVS into his phone and we were on our way. The CVS was only about 10 minutes from where we were headed, so I thought this was going to be a nice painless CVS run.
As we started getting closer to where this alleged CVS location was supposed to be, I started realizing that we were in an area loaded with corporate offices and other nonresidential businesses.
We made it to the CVS, the only problem being that it was the CVS Caremark offices. So while it was technically a CVS it was their offices and they did not sell Vanilla reloads. There was a lady outside and I asked her where the actual store was, but she didn’t find it as amusing as I did. I don’t even think she cracked a smile, I’m guessing she was having a bad day.
So moral of this story, unless you want to waste a lot of time driving to a CVS that isn’t really there, just give them a call beforehand. This will save you from wasting not only time but gas as well. In the end I went to the location close to my house and I was able to pick up a few vanilla reloads without incident.
