The Fighter Collection at Duxford, UK also have a Bearcat that looks amazing wearing the same squadron colors. 🤙😎 An interesting fact about the F8F Bearcat is that the aircraft were originally fitted with "Safety Wing Tips" where outer 40 inches of which were designed to break off cleanly in case of the wing being over stressed in a dive or other maneuver (at 7.5G). After several incidents where one or both wing tips unintentionally tore off, this feature was replaced with an explosives system to blow the wingtips off together, which also worked well, but this ended when a ground technician died due to an accidental triggering 😬. In the end, the wings were reinforced and the aircraft limited to 7.5 g. .
