            Vanessa’s hands were shaking as she sat at one of the more private and secluded tables at Lyndsy’s. Frowning she jammed the offending limbs under her thighs, hoping that sitting on them might make them stop with the shakes. ‘I shouldn’t be this nervous.’ she thought to herself. ‘This is Tessa, my best friend.’ Yeah, your best friend who you’re completely in love with, Her brain supplied unhelpfully. Groaning she dropped her head on the table, causing the salt and pepper shakers to dance a rattly little jig. How had this happened to her? To them. It was awkward enough being vaguely aware of her own feelings and keeping them tucked away in a tiny corner of her mind because she wasn’t ready to face the fact that Tessa might not feel the same.

But that theory had been blown to pieces, much like her bedroom door when she finally broke out of the prison her mother had trapped her in as punishment for being friends with the hunter. ‘Oh boy, if only mommy dearest could see me now.’ She thought. ‘In love with the hunter and the hunter possibly in love with me.’

Thumbing into her iphone, she pulled up their most recent text messages, the ones that were carefully worded and disturbingly emoji free -at least from Tessa’s end- to double check the time they were supposed to be meeting to ‘talk’ about all of, well, this.
