So I've been rotating Royal Beasts like rotisserie chickens. Firstly I made Coats of Arms for Grian, Pearl, and Gem. I designed Grians, and oh boi it still freaks me out. Grians went thru like 20 iterations in my head before it clickes. Its got the wings to represent him, and the implied Watcher Eye. I do wish I cud make the wings 3 colors tho. Pearls I'm happy with, no notes. The jewel in the middle of Gems and the antlers are suuper janky bc the tool I used didnt have those, so i built them from other shapes. Kinda wish I'd had moose antlers to put there. Secondly, Ive been thinking more about ShinyDuo and how they fit into the court. Pearl: I'm stuck on the name 'Ser Pearl of the Cresent Moon' for her. Wandering Knight, currently residing in Grians court Gem: Princess Gemini, Gem to her friends, is in Grians court for a type of intern/apprenticeship thing where the children of nobles are sent to other houses to learn how to run a house. Gem is here both for learing princess things and for learning Knight things. She's currently Pearls squire. (They fuck, have been since before Gem started studying under Pearl. It's Highly Scandalous for a Knight to be fucking their Squire. Even if its usually Gem topping. Hehe, wet cat Pearl.)

Ooooh fancy heraldry. Very cool looking. The implication of the eye between the wings an Grian's is good. In my heart the two blue dots are for his two vex- Even if it would probably make sense for them to have been there before the vex. Maybe he changes it to electric blue for them later.

Pearl's is pretty, elegant moon and stabbies, v her.

That is some wild work on Gem's you really made it give you what you wanted, dang-

How long do you think each Scar keeps their hair? I personally think royals Scar would let Kittens hair grow out to like upper back. Better for decorating and braiding and pulling.

I think most of my shapeshifty Scars forget that hair is supposed to grow gradually longer and need to be cut- They fluctuate it based on mood and what they're doing/wearing that day.

But you're right, Kitten would love having long luxurious hair, that must be played with and made pretty at all times, and gets into competition with elf-Scar about their hairs.

I think main beasts(and reverse) keeps his hair generally a bit above shoulder length, maybe just barely short ponytail length, as his default currently

dd!scar grows his hair out Super Long, because D!Cub kept his hair trimmed to perfect exact Hotguy specifications. dd!scar also dyes it sometimes when he really needs to feel in control of his own body.

L!scar also likes dying his hair, but he'll keep his relatively short. longer than it was as hotguy, less long than dd!scar.

pacrim scar keeps his hair shorter, maybe even a little shorter than active hotguy hairs were, to interfere less with the drift equipment and the jaeger suits

sunflowers lets his hair grow out a little, a bit past his shoulders but not much further i think. he enjoys tucking flowers in it.

Hear me out:

Royals Etho is one of the Vex they save with the mansion.

Im usually a sucker for a good fox or vampire Etho, but whos to say his person disguise cant have fox ears and a fluffy tail?

(Maybe he was the vex with the damaged wings/soul/magic. Cub did his best to repair it, but the damage leaves Etho unable to shift the lower part of his face out of vex mode, or change the scar over his eye.)

Also Gem definitely takes a shine to this new wet cat.

Oooooh, that's fun. Etho can be a Vex and a fluffy good boi at the same time.

Gem does enjoy her a good wet cat. And making Pearl jealous by giving her attentions to a different wet cat-

I also think Bdubs should completely miss the memo that Etho is a Vex and also that he should instantly take a shine to Etho anyway. Decides it's His Job to show Etho around and give him all the proper warnings and low-down info.

(Makes sense abt the damage. He probably picked it up defending the Mansion, so Etho has a reputation for being a strong fighter among the Vex, both for surviving a long string of Summoners and for his fighting to protect the independent Mansion, though it's debatable how much of that he retains after his injuries, since he hasn't really had his mettle tested since recovering.)

Kitten will gleefully glitter everything it can get its hands on.

Jevin, a blue slime, exists in the general vicinity of Grians Court.

Jevin is now a glitter slime, sitting in a bowl hanging from the ceiling being used as an improvised disco ball. Jevin is more glitter than slime by volume now.

Also definitely don't think about Jev glomping Kitten, wrapping everything but it's face up inside him and going to town on it in revenge. Even tho that will onky encourage Scar more

So true that the castle will never know peace nor non-sparkles once Kitten (and Cub but he's quieter about it) get their hands on The Good Glitter

Scar is sooooo encouraged by Jevin's '''revenge''' you're right. Fully planning shenanigans to get a repeat performance, absolutely trying to make it happen in front of Grian b/c Scar thinks getting to watch that through semi-transparent goop would be a Good Treat.

I do have to ask if you're imagining this with or without Jav knowing Scar is people- B/c I think it would be very funny for Jev to have been in this whole glitter and debauchery war with Kitten and eventually he passes Scar in a more private back hallway and Scar's just like "Hey Jevin! : D' just to see Jev jump ten feet and stick himself to the wall. It'd be a hell of a welcome to the inner circle.

Royals AU, the early days.

Grian has been giving Scar sooo much of his magic. Pumping him full. Making that Vex glow purple.

What if that magics begun to change him. Like in Main. But unlike main, Grian is currently being a Depressed Birb Panini in his nest. And not continuing to give Scar as much magic as he wants/needs. Scar probably won't know or dare to pull the magic either, and that is if Grian knows or thought to unrestrict or even allow magic draw.

This goes well for a few days, until all the Watcher magic in Scars system has been processed, and the literal new dimension his magic and soul have been growing demands magic nutrients. While Scar is also left with (next to) none of his summoners magic. Going through magic hunger, magic malnutrition, and magic withdrawal at the same time. Early warning signs of this would be him being absolutely ravenous in the hours leading up to it. Scarfs down the whole meals they're given, enough food for at least five people, in seconds and begs for more. Cub has no idea whats going on when Scars magic starts flipping out and Scar starts shaking, drifting in and out of consciousness, complaining about being hollow and hungry. (Oops i found more angst. ^^)

The changes don't do much to him visually, giving him a faint purple oilslick sheen, making it look like he's glowing in low light. (I could not resist making him prettier.) And making him better able to wield Watcher magic. An Eldritch Vex, a Watcher-Marked.

Also at some point Cleo gifts Kitten a whole bucket of (body)glitter. Maybe for whatever passes the Vexs birthday. It takes Grians own hatchday coming around for him to ask his Vex about theirs. Do they have a hatchday? Or a birthday? He can't quite get the concept of initially being stitched together from magic and intent and then slowly growing beyond what you were meant to be, eeking out a self from the cracks of you existence. Scar suggests celebrating their summoning day, the day Grian got them. They could have a huge party, lots of cake, invite the Empires Court. Grian considers this a splendid idea.

Oooh, a fascinating bit of angst to chew on- Scar too caught up in the changes to even feel the terror of Being Changed. Taking bites out of the plates and silverware when the meals just aren't enough. Teething on the furniture, gnawing on jewelry and flame it's and anything in reach.

Cub's fear about not knowing what's going on taking a backseat to his need to stay calm and handle it. He tries dropping Scar, in case it's somehow related to their no-summoner magic troubles, with Grian abandoning them like this, and that does nothing. Well, almost nothing. He saw a moment of relief in Scar's eyes when he used a twist of his magic to bliss Scar out- So of course he does what he considers logical, and gives Scar more of his magic.

Scar taking and taking, too hungry to care that he's scraping through Cub's reserves, through everything even slightly touched by their Summoner's magic. Only able to feel when hunger is finally sated, curling up around an unconscious Cub and purring.

Kitten is always allowed to become prettier- It's his right.

Excellent work Cleo, nobody in the castle will Ever be glitter-free again. Scar (and Cub) are delighted. And Scar is always down for an excuse to throw a big party and be celebrated!! He'll take ten birthdays please! : D

So you know how you aren't supposed to pet a parrot anywhere but the head bc otherwise they might think you are their mate? So you know how Cub likes to stim by petting one of Grians primaries? One of those big feathers on the wing?

I am being Perfectly Normal about this.

I haven't pinned down exactly what kind of bird/birds beasts verses Grian is, but like. That's very good. Very ideas.

Cub finds the big feather so good to stim on, very soothing. He's Very Careful not to damage it. Taking good care of their bird.

I am amused by the thought of Grian being like 'oh good this barely even feels like preening, I won't get all melty-brained' and then instead of melty-brain he gets a whole Chestful Of Emotions instead. One-two punch. He is feeling terminal amounts of sap. And maybe some other stuff.

A concept for Cubs wings. The dark blue lines are the primary magic veins/flows. I based them around the silica crystal structure. Unless google lied to me. Then i based them around a different crystal structure. Wanted to use silica since amethysts belong to that group. Also i just colored it with my new metalic blue highlighter. I love the color.

I based the shape off of the brief description in the threequel (One arc, then three swoops under it. A perfectly shaped rendition of Cub's wing.) and what you said about them being more dragon than fairy. I will admit my original impression based on that line is very, very cartoony.

The proportions are loosely based on the golden ratio/rule of thirds. I did dig out my compass and other geometry stuff to help. I did one fully open and one in sort of resting position. I consciously refrained from adding any sort of cohesive/vertebrate bone structure, tho i was very, very tempted. Do love me a good arm analog wing. But no, these are magic constructs. They deserve freedom. Do note that both wings are the exact same size. Even if they dont look it. I recall you saying vex wings are rather small.

I put them so low on his back bc you said that vex wings sit lower than avian wings. I had an anatomical reference image for avian wings up. So i sat these lower. (Also Cub has one hekk of an implied booty in my hastily constructed figurine)

Ooooh, they are very cool! Crystal geometry and smooth shapes, very in line with how I picture the shape of them. A neat touch for you to make it like amethyst structure. Sad that cameras have a hard time capturing the metallic of the fancy highlighter.

I did go back and forth on how many swoops should be in Cub's wings. I was tempted for more, but that felt too busy. I do like the three, seeing it. You doing fancy mathy stuff for Cub's wings is somehow On Brand for him. Cub Approved Wing Design. : 3

Yeah my Vex wings tend toward smaller as their usual, unless there's something like big influx of Magic/Emotion acting on them that can sometimes make them change size. Salutes you for giving them their shapey freedom.

Did I say they sit lower? I say so many words that keeping them all in my head is a Task. Might not be quite that low? Idk. Got distracted imagining Cub gaslighting Grian by lowering where his wings are on his back gradually day by day and pretending they were always that low.

Pff, Cub can have some 'cake', as a treat. : P

I edited it to the version with Scar and Cub. My whole idea with letting them choose their charges instead of changing the color of existing ones was that Grian shows that he respects them as individuals, as people, to the point where he will put that on his actual coat of arms for everyone to see. Not that most ppl will understand what theyre seeing, but eh. Scars fleur-de-lis turned out a bit dark here bc of some outline shenangians, but it is the same color as Cubs star.

Very nice, the sentiment is There, and the people who need to understand what it means, will. The self-determination of them choosing their own shapes, the same way they built their own selves from scratch. But also how they form part of the implied eye, how they're part of his eyes and ears at court. How they're cradled in the loop of his wings, held close, Grian's desire to protect and care for them, his flock.
