Variant Spells: Shocking Grasp
So i loooove touch spells, and i think they are a great adition to any characters list of spells. Lightning damage not your thing? Try out these variations!
Shocking Grasp (original spell)
Evocation Cantrip Casting Time: 1 action Range: Touch Components: V, S Duration: Instantaneous
Lightning springs from your hand to deliver a shock to a creature you try to touch. Make a melee spell attack against the target. You have advantage on the attack roll if the target is wearing armor made of metal. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 lightning damage, and it can’t take reactions until the start of its next turn.
Blazing Hands
Flames erupt from your hand to scorch to a creature you try to touch. Make a melee spell attack against the target. You have advantage on the attack roll if the target is wearing flammable clothing. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 fire damage, and it must use its next bonus action to put the fire out or take an additional 1d8 of fire damage.
Frostbitten Touch
Frost spreads from your hand to deliver an icy attack to a creature you try to touch. Make a melee spell attack against the target. You have advantage on the attack roll if the target is damp, wet or standing in water. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 cold damage, and it’s movement is halved the next turn.
Vampiric Scratch
Claws emerge from your fingers to graze to a creature you try to touch. Make a melee spell attack against the target. You have advantage on the attack roll if the target is below half of its max HP. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 necrotic damage, and you regain half as many hitpoints.
Rotting Fingers
Rot spreads from your hand to infect a creature you try to touch. Make a melee spell attack against the target. You have advantage on the attack roll if the target has any level of exhaustion. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 poison damage, and it has to succeed on a constitution saving throw or be poisoned for one round, taking an additional 1d4 of poison damage.
Phantom Grip
Illusory magic surrounds your hand to trick a creature you try to touch. Make a melee spell attack against the target. You have advantage on the attack roll if the target has already taken damage this round. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 psychic damage, and must succeed on a wisdom saving throw or have disadvantage on its attack roll the next turn.
Oozing Palms
Acidic flux seeps from your hand to corrode a creature you try to touch. Make a melee spell attack against the target. You have advantage on the attack roll if the target is not wearing armor. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 acid damage, and it must succeed on a constitution saving throw or have disadvantage on its attack roll the next turn.
