2017 Show of Hearts Scholarship recipient Akeesha is 11 years old and lives with right hemiplegia (cerebral palsy) affecting the right side of her body. Akeesha competed in her first ever competition in 2015 at the school SAPSASA event at Santos Stadium where she received medals in all three of her events with her percentage results qualifying her to compete at the School Sports Championships in Canberra. In Canberra she competed in 5x individual events and 2x team relays winning Gold and breaking the Australian record for her classification in the 100m, 200m, Discus and Long Jump, with Silver and another Australian record broken in Shot Put. In 2016, she competed in 100m, Discus and Long Jump getting Gold in all three and again qualifying her to compete in Sydney at the All Schools Championships. Akeesha’s goal is to represent her country in the Paralympic and Commonwealth Games and with that passion and a little help from a Variety scholarship, we think she has every chance of making that dream come true. #varietyscholarship #showofhearts #varietykidscan
