@varrimovers said: "Now, how about a nice cup of jasmine tea?"
Zuko’s eyes narrowed not in hostility, but in that weary, knowing way he’d perfected over decades of dealing with people like Varrik, who sat across from him grinning as widely. They were always the same. Opportunistic as lion vultures. Knowing this, Zuko took the offered cup anyway, because refusing would only make whatever game Varrik was playing more complicated. He lifted it, let the steam touch his face, and exhaled through his nose.
"With you, Varrik, a cup of tea usually means I should brace myself." He finally met the man’s eyes, unblinking. "So go on. What is it this time? A business venture? An invention—I’d prefer to be warned before the explosions, you know." Despite the dryness in his tone, there was the faintest hint of amusement as he took the tea to his lips, took a small sip, and added, "But… it is good tea. So for the moment, I’m listening."
