He shot his eighth husband and third wife, as well as a handful of other people.

4. Has your character ever witnessed something that fundamentally changed them? If so, does anyone else know?

Varsyth: When he saw how easily his parents were killed, a whole world of problem-solving opportunities opened up for him.

5. On an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets?

Varsyth: At least one knife, and maybe a very tiny reptile that may or may not be a polymorphed person.

Shinorian: On the off-chance that he’s actually wearing pants, probably a sexual lubricant.

17. What was your character’s favorite toy as a child?

Varsyth: While he certainly enjoyed ripping the hairs one by one off the dolls he was given, he didn’t really love playing with something until he was finally allowed to practice swordplay. When asked, he’d answer this question by saying he loved playing with sharp objects as a child, because he’s terrible and loves the faces people make when he says those sorts of things.

22. What does your character like in other people?

Varsyth: Their wallets That they have a (usually unreasonably) high opinion of him.

26. How does your character behave around children?

Varsyth: He doesn’t like most children, but around those who are very clever/independent, he’s a little playful. Most of the children he’s had himself, he’s been very cold and distant to. On the rare occasion he actually keeps and loves his own biological children, he’s very sweet and never scolds them too harshly, though he does enforce a few rules for the child’s wellbeing.

Shinorian: Practically being a child himself, Shinorian is a favorite to most children he meets, being very childishly playful and affectionate. He tends to spoil his daughter and his siblings’ children, giving them too many toys and letting them have sweets past their bedtime.

30. What does your character find repulsive or disgusting?

Varsyth: People other than him being affectionate, and people who are overly moral.

Shinorian: All the behaviors of people he’s jealous of, especially if the behaviors are generally admirable. Ex: His ex’s new husband being a great father and an overall kind person.

31. Describe a scenario in which your character feels most comfortable.

Varsyth: Either when someone is utterly powerless beneath him, or when he’s falling asleep with his husband or pet snake wrapped around him.

Shinorian: Any time that he knows his loved ones are safe and he also isn’t wearing any clothes.

35. How does your character behave around people they like?

Varsyth: He’s extraordinarily clingy and jealous, he’ll actually admit to all the horrible things he’s done, and he’ll let them see him get so angry he starts to cry. On the other hand, he’ll be as considerate as he can be of their needs, overly complimentary, and fully prepared to solve all of their problems by any means necessary.

Are you missing me too much? I wish I could be there with you, but I really did have important business to return to. I feel so sad leaving Yves by himself with the children, and he gets nervous around my snake even when I am there. I can only imagine how stressful it is when she isn’t being kept in check... but I didn’t tell you why I needed to get back so soon.

We’re trying to have a child.

I know that sounds incredibly silly to be doing so soon after the purple one, but if you saw how excited and happy he gets at the thought of becoming a biological father rather than adopting my existing children, I’m sure you’d understand. It’s just too cute.

I’m really not sure why I didn’t want to tell you while I was visiting. It would’ve made all the things I was telling you about much more fun if you knew. Do me a favor, love, and imagine Yves and I getting up to all the things I told you about, but while trying to conceive. He’s even been on top a few times, can you even picture that? I certainly hope you can.

Please feel better soon, sweetling. I love you very much, and I promise that at least half the things my husband and I do, I’ll be doing with you once you’re feeling up to it. I miss you.

My sweet Kei,

It’s funny you should mention- everything’s a little duller with you gone. I’m sure Shinorian being with you is at least part of that, but I miss you most. It’s good to hear that he’s keeping you safe from cute little animals, though. I’m still suspicious of those owl-cat creatures.

Of course, I’m grateful to you for protecting him, too. I’ve been giving him trouble lately, but I still love him dearly, and I couldn’t bear it if something happened to him while I’m so far. Something other than him getting messed with, that is. You can keep doing that, as long as you tell me how upset he was. It’s very satisfying to read about.

Thank you very much for the pictures, sweetling. I’d show you just how much they mean to me, but I’m currently exhausted. I’ll send you another letter in a few days once I’ve recovered. Unfortunately, I can’t keep things in order for you at the moment, either, but I can at least show you why.

At least I can be fairly certain that it isn’t Shinorian’s this time. Tell me if you like it, I may actually keep this one instead of tracking down its other parent and giving it to them. I’m mostly certain it’s half-night elf. It was between that and a troll when I first saw it, but the feet are like ours, and its eyes glow closer to silver than my color.

Either way, though, it’s bigger than I’d expected. I’ll have to send Yves out to do some shopping. He cried when he saw it, by the way- mostly because I hadn’t told him it was coming and had just made him leave the house all day. I imagine it was also because he was a little drunk by the time he got back.

Again, thank you so much for sending those photos. You’ll be getting similar ones from me as soon as possible, but in the meantime, the love and appreciation I’m sending will have to do.

My dearest darling Kei,

You’re very sweet. I hope you’re doing alright without pillows on your travels. I always keep at least two on me when I have to go away on... business. I made sure the ones in the house were of the highest quality.

I regret not staying there longer- the way Shinorian was acting had made it seem like you two weren’t getting on, even with him finally getting the ring from me, so I hadn’t thought you’d be back. I slept with the guests, though. They’re very considerate, I highly recommend giving at least one of them a try.

Clearly things with you two are going much better than I’d thought, though. Roseblade is very... elegant. Just like formal mage attire- the incredibly expensive kind. I have a few hidden away somewhere that I acquired through completely legitimate means. They’d suit you, just as I’m sure my ring does. It hurt to hand it over, especially for it to be given to you, but I want you to be happy. And if you are, then so am I. You know how much I love you.

I love you so much, in fact, that I’ve practiced my botanical magic in my garden while not in the shop (which is doing wonderfully, by the way) so that your flowers will be perfect. You know, though, it’s incredible how many of my wealthier sin’dorei customers come by with their spouses. I can get them to buy out nearly half the store just by smiling at them, they get so worried I’ll rat them out. And their betrayed spouse gets plenty of flowers- almost everyone wins!

Your adorable picture reminded me, though, there’s been some rabbits trying to make their home in my garden. Usually I’d let them find out the hard way why that’s a terrible idea, but you’ve influenced me. I froze them in time and relocated them to an area I warded against predators. They only turned slightly purple during the whole process, and as I didn’t cast or dispel the magic while I was in sight, they barely even realized something had happen. In any case, when I checked back a few days later, they had a little home dug out. I doubt I’ll be stopping by much, though- the wards make me somewhat uncomfortable. I can’t imagine why that is.

I do know of a Lori Stormtalon, though, and I can guess why he does- Raelyne goes on about him whenever she gets the chance. From what I hear, he’s very charming and beautiful. I’m not sure why a night elf being attractive would make Shinorian upset, though. Maybe he’s jealous?

Now, I don’t know how much he told you about my... fascination with the Highborne, but I’m sure he was exaggerating. Regardless, as soon as I can, I intend on coming back over to the Broken Isles, for reasons completely unrelated to the naga situation I’ve been hearing about.

               Despite all of Varsyth’s malicious intentions, the first thing he got upon teleporting directly into Shinorian’s room was a hug that nearly knocked the wind out of him. He could hear the big idiot telling him how much he missed him, but he was already trying to wiggle away. He eventually resorted to licking his chest- childish, but effective. Shinorian instinctively jumped back, looking down at his chest in shock before raising his chin and arching a brow at Varsyth.

               “Did- did you just lick me? Do you have some sort of… motive… for coming here?”

               The incredulity in his voice made Varsyth blush, but he stood up straighter, glaring as harshly as he could. “I have a motive, yes, but it’s not what you’re implying, and I still don’t know that I entirely forgive you for being the cause of all the emotional distress I’ve been going through. In fact, I’m sure I don’t, because you’re only making it worse now.” When he received only a confused look in response, he blushed harder and set his shoulders back. “Your boyfriend. How did you think I was going to react when I found out what you did to him? How could you? He doesn’t deserve you treating him like that. You kept him from me just so you could break his heart yourself, is that it?”

               Still not getting a verbal response, Varsyth’s voice got louder and more indignant. “I wanted you to leave him, not run off to the middle of nowhere and fuck someone else! You didn’t even properly end things with him, you- you just went on one of your breaks. Do you have any intention of going back to him? Is this just some kind of… routine, for you? Get some pretty mage to fall for you, ruin him, and just leave him hanging for years before you show up acting like you’re some great--!” He stopped himself, realizing his voice was cracking and there were tears in his eyes. The two were silent for a few minutes before Shinorian decided to try and speak. However, Varsyth cut him off, having composed himself and remembered what he came for.

               “But I should thank you. After all, you left him lonely, desperate, vulnerable… and very single.” The blush and flustered scoff from Shinorian was more than enough to put a spiteful smile on Varsyth’s face. “I’ve been waiting for ages for another chance to sleep with him again. And since he doesn’t want to see you, that leaves me to kiss him, keep him company at night, cook for him, and tell him all the sweet things he wants to hear. You know, all those things you decided you valued less than a little action while you’re out of town.” The man looked like he might cry, at this point, and while Varsyth did feel an annoying little pang of sympathy, his grin only grew wider. Of course he had to ruin it by finally opening his stupid mouth.

               “I didn’t have sex while I was out there, you know.” Varsyth’s grin faded at the news, but it didn’t go away entirely, so Shinorian continued. “We- alright, we were touching each other in some… less than appropriate places, but we didn’t even take any of our clothes off, for the Light’s sake.

“We came to our senses after a minute or two, but Knight-Lord Sunwrath and Champions Roseblood and Brightsong had already been killed. In their sleep. Because we’d been that easy to distract while on watch. I was feeling awful about that, and with my guilt along with the fact that I was so vague regarding what happened… Kei came to his own conclusions.” He took a shaky breath, and by now Varsyth’s little pang of sympathy had grown to an intense feeling of remorse. Not enough for him to actually confess he felt bad or to apologize, of course, but it still hurt. “The break was mostly for his sake, because of how upset he gets, but in addition to that, I- I just can’t handle him along with everything else. I needed a little time… it would’ve been nice to have Kei’s support while I deal with this, but he- he’s just too upset, so…” Shinorian trailed off, looking exhausted, and Varsyth sighed with what sounded like sympathy.

“So you decided to do what was best for him… and let me fuck your boyfriend. And, darling, I treat him so much better than you ever could.” Shinorian flinched and looked up in shock, but Varsyth had started smiling again. Sure, it was incredibly petty and vengeful, but the pain in his friend’s expression matched what he’d been seeing in the mirror lately. It felt good. Maybe he’d end up forgiving the big idiot, after all.

He turned to leave using the door, like a normal person, but gave one last compassionate look over his shoulder before he went out, using the most caring voice he could.

“Oh, and I’m going to make out with your brother before I go.”
