Skiing with my wife
Yesterday I went out with my wife who btw has signed up for the half distance during the Vasa week. As she hadn't been skiing for a year and only once last year I let her set the pace except for uphill. It turned out to be a perfect training combining technique and interval. While I was skiing behind her I had the chance to ski without poles and work on the balance. When I went uphill I knew I could go 100% as I would have chance of getting the pulse down while waiting for her.
Looking good
or at least better than last year:
I did 7 km and 8 km skate during the weekend and 10 km classic today. My plan is that I will try to keep the training distances at max 10-15 the first couple of weeks of January and focus more on technique at least during weekdays.
I had a very good training today on a flat course with focus on double poling and keeping myself on top of the poles all the time. I really tried to keep pushing beating the snow with the poles in stead of just pushing myself forward as I sometimes tend to do. It felt good and I felt like I could have continued for a while still but unfortunately my toes said no. The temperature was -13c and my Madshus nano clc are too cold for these temperatures. I was wearing two pairs of socks and boot covers but it didn’t help. The good thing is that my Swix lobster cloves did do a good job and kept my hands warm. I was using my Oneway Premio 10 Cold skis for probably the second time since I bought them and I have a good feeling about the skis. I was using Start violet MF as glidewax and Swix blue for grip.
Now the temperature will go down to -15 for a few days so I will probably need to go to the gym or something to stay on track.
Status update
Last time i wrote something here I got a flu and that has actually happened almost every time I have updated about my activities.
Since I had a couple of ear infections and influenzas during the autumn I hope that I am done with that for now.
I have done some indoor skiing lately and finally it looks like the winter is here so i am looking forward to get outside in a couple of days.
The good thing is that I feel stronger at this point than at the same point last year and douple poling start to feel easy when going at a moderate pace. I hope that I can gain some speed during the next couple of months so that I can improve my time in both Finlandia ski marathon and Vasaloppet. Still the most important thing will be to see the writing "I fäders spår – för framtids segrar" after 90 km skiing in March
OK I guess I did not do a very good job updating this blog but no worries I can have another try as I am going to participate again in 2016!!!!
This year i finished in 10h 28min 35 sec which was not good but the conditions taken into consideration I am quite ok with the time.
I have now stared intensive training towards this winters challenges and my progress can be followed from here. https://flow.polar.com/training/profiles/9012992
I have started with light weight training and indoor cycling on a tacx trainer. At the moment I try to do low intensity trainings and variate those with one or two more tough interval or high pulse running.
