Wanna make your own Flug?

Some advice that you might not consider if you’re making an AU Flug- and something I don’t see people mentioning that much with Doctor characters in general- Why are they wearing that lab coat, in particular? 

Take Flug; he’s got an open, plain lab coat and gloves under his sleeves, goggles and a paper bag. We’ve seen that he works with both explosive and corrosive chemicals for his invention, most of which he handles himself. Therefore, it makes sense he would wear a coat he could rip of his body quickly in case it catches fire or gets something toxic on it. That’s why he doesn't close it- it’s easier to take it off that way, and a t-shirt’s easy to pull off your head. Even the bag can be removed quickly- I’ve seen people claim the pull of the goggles strap would make it hard to rip off his head, but you can clearly see the goggles aren't flush to his head, they aren't even bending the bag. 

Now, take Vaskur Skip, or Dr. Slys I sometimes call him. He’s got a lab coat that goes to his cnemis (lower leg), closed at the side, with a high collar that covers his neck and the opening at the bottom of his bag. His sleeves are tucked into his gloves, and he’s got knee high boots made of a plastic like material. He wears goggles at all times, and his paper bag acts like a face mask. By that description alone, you should be able to guess that his goal is to prevent contamination from something, almost like a hazmat suit. That’s because, while Flug is the mechanic, Vaskurs experience is in biological engineering.

Another great example is rascal-rose ‘s Jekyll and Hyde au, not only does that outfit fit the time period, but just looking at him can give you a rough idea of his work.
