Twilight bashing

Watching Vampire Academy for the first time on DVD and I'm disappointed by the script. I understand that the twilight saga movies were not as good as the books. What I don't understand is why the Vampire Academy movie had to make rude comments about a fellow Authors work. The only similarity between the two are it's about Vampires. It is not a competition the twilight saga movies arts done. It just sucks because I love south book series and authors.
