Grineer Spirituality - The Vaykor
Vaykor is the general term used to refer to items that have a spirit of some sort attached to them. Essentially, they are haunted. Some Vaykor items are haunted in the more traditional sense of "there is the spirit of a dead person attached to this", while others are items that have been passed down from generation to generation, accumulating energy until they gain a form of consciousness.
The spirits connected to Vaykor items are either called Vaykor or the Honored. They can communicate with the living, but typically only as long as they are in physical contact. Exceptionally powerful Vaykor spirits are capable of temporarily possessing their wielders, although typically it isn't done without consent. Some Vaykor items will refuse to function properly if the spirit doesn't like the person holding them.
Any item can become Vaykor, and there are stories of entire Galleons becoming Vaykor and still being able to run even if there is no living crew on board. Almost all Grineer believe in and worship the Vaykor, although it is only an open practice in Defector culture.
Some Vaykor items can have more than one spirit in them, or be split over two items that are considered part of a whole and shouldn't be separated. If a Vaykor item and a person have bonded, it is considered bad luck to separate them.
The Vaykor spirit will "die" if the item it is connected to is destroyed. As a result, known Vaykor items will be carefully upkept and repaired if need be.
