Ventura County Fair food tips
For those of you who cringe at the thought of deep fried oreos, read on...
So I went to the fair last night to see Lifehouse & since we didn't have time to grab dinner before they played my sis and I had to settle for dreaded "fair food". Don't get me wrong, I love ice cream and cinnamon buns as much as the next girl but I definitely wanted to try and stay relatively healthy on this trip. I was shocked to see how healthy I could be!
*Side note: before I get into the good for you stuff... I tried the butter beer at the Gingerbread house booth that CLAIMS it is "straight from the wizarding world" and I was MAJORLY disappointed. It doesn't taste ANYTHING like the one in Orlando (which I have had). Its kind of a sad mixture of cream soda and caramel and its $4.50 for a CUP!?? STAY AWAY!!!!!
First off there is a booth called Palapa Tacos. It is near the stage by the bungee jumping. This mexican food hut had 2 healthy options. We ordered the spinach taco wrap. Pretty tasty and good for you - it had beans, rice, spinach and salsa ...and was big enough to split in half and share.
You can also find udon noodles at the Oxnard buddhist booth made with chicken or beef. Didn't try these but they were a good option as it gets FRIGID at night in Ventura.
If you're on your way to the concert area, there are delicious smelling cinnamon buns... but right next door you can get FREE (yes free) yogurt samples of activia and other dannon options.
So it is possible to eat decently at the fair, but I am probably the only crazy person who would want to. I saw people digging into a hotdog/potato tower and funnel cakes galore. Maybe next time....
