Final Major Project VC0664 Evaluation
This FMP gave brilliant opportunities to expand my technical skill set, navigating the demands of industry level branding.
The initial research into contemporary issues expanded my interest in Gen Z, and their relationship to sobriety. As a trending conversation amongst market research, the untapped demographic of sober-students and nightlife gave me an edge to personally explore. This exploration uncovered both personal and national insights, which I used to propel my problem solving skills, placing sober students’ needs at the forefront.
Generating solutions for my audience to enjoy university nightlife, I navigated the translation of research to ideas, to prototyping and reflection. Within this process, I engaged with technical skills such as Blender, which supported the professional expectations of my work. However, collaboration with photographer Leah Andrews pushed this exploration to feel more considered and produce a high-quality outcome.
To fully engage with this process, it was integral for me to maintain a structured plan, balancing long-term objectives with weekly goals. However, certain feedback was unexpected, causing me to navigate reiterating my concept, and creating new goals. This was apparent when I switched my branding, and as I created the physical products. This set my process back, needing to address my time-management to ensure I remained on track.
Iterative in nature, this process pushed me to expand on skills outside of my knowledge, such as photography. However, this exploration carried valuable learning opportunities, and expanded the potential validity in my outcomes. Alongside this, it proved difficult to make decisions based on my audience's needs rather than my personal desires for the outcome, as I worked with new methodologies and constantly questioned my work.
Looking ahead, I feel there was even more potential to explore my idea, widening the concept to bars, and possibly other styles of beverages. Alongside this, I had aimed to include motion graphics with my 3D renders, however, didn’t find the time to do so. Regardless, this project pushed me to consider professional contexts to a high degree, creating outcomes I feel are considered and strong for my audience.
