Ventura County Credit Union President honored by the Credit Union House
Joe Schroeder Inducted into Hall of Leaders
On Sunday, March 8, the Credit Union House inducted Ventura County Credit Union (VCCU) President Joe Schroeder into the Hall of Leaders. This honor was bestowed on Schroeder in recognition of the significant contributions he has made as an advocate of the “credit union movement” on a local, state and national level.

The efforts Schroeder was acknowledged for are his membership and participation in the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) Consumer Protection Subcommittee, and having previously served on the Credit Union Leagues’ Government Affairs Committee. Under his leadership, VCCU also implemented an outreach program to agricultural workers in Ventura County and has since opened 500 new memberships to workers who previously had no financial institution.
“This is a well-deserved honor,” said Linda Rossi, VCCU senior vice president of strategic services. “Joe is a true crusader for credit unions. He embodies the values by which the credit union movement was founded, and is committed to the members of VCCU and his community.” The credit union movement began with the idea that people could achieve a better standard of living for themselves and others by pooling their savings and making loans to neighbors and coworkers. The Credit Union House is a federal-style townhome located in Washington, DC and serves as a temporary residence and coordination center for credit union advocates nationwide who come to Capitol Hill. The Hall of Leaders is a reminder to all who visit the Credit Union House of the many who have volunteered their time to perpetuate the credit union movement. Inductees include board chairmen, league presidents, credit union CEOs, league board members and volunteers.
Schroeder received this distinction along with Desert Valleys Federal Credit Union CEO Eric Bruen. Schroeder and Bruen are the third and fourth inductees from California since the program’s inception in 2008.
