Working on stress testing the 98 Shuttle for VCF West this year to make sure it doesn’t suffer a *thermal event* at the show. I think putting the CPU heatsink in push pull with an external fan has helped (the internal fan is still in there plugging away) has helped tremendously to pull heat out of the chassis. The video card (ATI X800XL) settles around 48-51c which is totally fine.

Also totally in love with the wallpaper I made a bit ago. Saw some clouds outside my house that looked very Win9x to my eyes…took a photo and did some photoshop and bam.

Because I'm double-booked throughout several weekends in April (including an event where I may be doing an exhibit on early computing at Aberdeen, which I really don't want to miss) I'm not going to be able to make it to VCF East.

However, I'm considering going to VCF West instead, because I want to go to a vintage computer festival this year and because I've wanted to go to the Computer History Museum since 2010, and this is as good an excuse to visit as any . . .

For folks who have been how is VCF West? When do exhibits & talks tend to get announced?

Does the CHM do anything before/during/after the festival in terms of special events or exhibits?

On that note, how difficult is it to see items that aren't on display? The Multicians website mentions CHM having DOCKMASTER DPS8 hardware in its collection, but not on display, but that you might be able to request viewing and I have no idea how feasible that is or if anyone's done it before.

VCF West 2019!  MOnSter Cactus 2: Revengence!

Last year, I got to connect the Cactus to the MOnSter 6502.  You know, this thing?

Well this year it was a plug-&-play deal, no messing around with breadboards and jumper wires.  We bolted one of the two MOnSter’s on display at Eric’s table into my homebrew, and started computing right away.  We ran BASIC, EWOZMON, a larson scanner, kill-the-bit, and a few other brief experiments.  I had a blast!
